I knew & was familiar with The Cars and Ric Ocasek from years ago--Benjamin Orr, though, was rather a new discovery for me. This man was gifted. His looks, voice and stage presence were winners. I'm sorry he passed away at such a young age....😢
I'm old. I saw them all in concert. Jimmy, Janis, Stones, Led, Allman Bros., Santana etc. etc. I never understood why Orr didn't get more publicity. It was a crowed stage with all that talent back then but he was a talented guy also.
Totalitty agree. He is pratically unknown in FRANCE.IOnly discovered him this year in june 2021.Such à handsome boy with such à voice.hehad it all.Why was it not better know ?Since then il have been an absolute fan.Without him the cars would have know the same success. What à paty for him.He deserved to be recognition worldwide. So why?
@@tamponnebretagne6240 Because Ric Ocasek was one the one they promoted. They knew if Ben Orr was the front man, Ocasek would have been obscure, overlooked and unknown for the most part. Just a side show. Ben would have stolen the show and they knew. Someone was jealous of him.
The man :"Benny" was a prodigy's protege! Fantastic on bass, terrifically talented on keyboards, guitar and his vocals speak for themselves. Multi-talented muscian
When I saw The Cars in 1984 for their Heartbeat City tour I had no idea that Ben sang so many of their songs. I had assumed that Rick was the only singer. What a talent. Gone way too early. RIP Rick and Benjamin. Still have the concert T Shirt from that show at Southpark Meadows in Austin, Texas. One of the best live sounds I can remember seeing/hearing.
I had MANY heated arguements with people who swore that Ric sang songs like Drive, Let's Go and Let The Good Times Roll. I knew the truth, but they couldn't be swayed. Wierd how Ric Ocasak was the best known member of the band, yet the one who always stood out from the rest was Ben Per. He was the only blond member and looked like a runway model.
@@jayanxiety Yeah there was some kind of agenda with Ocasek and the music industry wanting everyone to see him as the lead singer/front man exclusively. It was obviously done on purpose. I had all their records and CDs growing up and barely even knew about Ben. The only thing that made me know about him was his name was next to the songs on he sang on the records/CDs. No MTV videos with Ben either, all Ocasek. Apparently, they just used him. Makes me mad.
@@reesedaniel5835 Ben was the Poster Boy for the female fans… Maybe Ric and crew assumed that people wouldn’t take the band seriously because of Ben’s looks.
Almost 60 now, remember the Cars when they hit the scene. Totally innovative sound they were part of the ''NEW WAVE'' . Saw them at Hollywood Sporto down in Miami back in the day. Often imitated NEVER duplicated. Thanks for the memories...
I admit to being prejudice with a tinge of jealousy from the first time I listened to the Cars. Through the years I kept waiting to read or hear something negative about Ben, as if that would suddenly justify the jealousy guys can sometime allow to develope between each other for absolutely no reason, especially having never met Ben. Saw the Cars several times in Houston and they always blew me away. Throughout the years of his life Ben turned out to be the "real deal" as both a musician and to all those who were a part of his personal life. There could never be a band as great as the Cars without Ben. Every member of the Cars performed their roles in this band on the highest level. I was really depressed to find out he passed away with such little fanfare, although it's natural to be disappointed, it's also important to remember the cliche: Only the Good Die Young. He's somewhere else, yet he's also still around. I know your at peace and may you always remain that way.
I'm not normally a fan of stripped back versions, as I' prefer a full on approach, but this is superbly interesting and really showcases Ben's voice. 🎇
One of my favorite rock vocalists. So fortunate to have seen The Cars and experienced Ben sing live in the late 70s and early 80s. Much love for Ben. Rest peacefully. 💔
Is this him really playing the guitar and singing? That's it? I know there is vocal over dubbing but is this just Benjamin and an electric guitar?!?! I play both Bass and guitar and had no idea he was that good at guitar too. Vocals are outta the park. Man he was great!!
@@howardwalton1876 I believe you're right! That distorted bass line played over the vocal by an electric guitar at the end was a surprise. Was that on the original track? Isn't the verse Ocasek doing his arpegiio rhythm ? Check them doing this live. Eliot is SO underrated! Love these guys. Thx for the info!! Jill

How can someone so huge, be forgotten? Ben, You mattered then. You certainly matter now. 22+ years later. Your time here mattered.
He’s not forgotten, not by a long shot
Benjamin Orr will never be forgotten. That is an absolute impossibility.
Ben had it all: voice, played many instruments, hair, smile, eues, and all that stage presence. This is my favorite version of All Mixed Up!!!❤❤❤
