Would agree on the Burning the Midnight Oil card being better then ECache, it basically trades a single resource over ECache for tempo which I consider to be worth. Definitely do like 95% of my seeker actions as basic investigates too.

Definitely great in Ursula though, who can use this as she zips around!

Burning the Midnight Oil is amazing. And much better than E-Cache. Seekers use Investigate actions to build economy and consistency already. Eureka, Perception/Perception(2), Deduction, Enraptured for the ladies who can take it. I'll gladly take 1 clue, and 2 resources WHILE giving me a chance to trigger some of my consistency cards. Practice Makes Perfect requires a skill test to go off. You get to draw off the PMP and trigger an Astounding Revelation, thinning your deck and gaining you economy.
Even Rook is better when you trigger his effect during a skill test (Investigation) since you won't take attacks of opportunity from a basic weakness enemy.
Ursula and Rex also have reasons why they prefer investigation actions over pure play actions.
What you said about how the game should be evaluated from a purely economy standpoint of evaluating this card doesn't make much sense. Economy doesn't win you the game, getting clues does.... so the fact that you can mix in economy into investigation actions that are required to advance the game... is amazing.

Burning the Midnight Oil is an amazing card. Resources for the thing you are already doing is great.

So burning the midnight oil saves you an action when you play it compared to emergency cache (unless you are a seeker that doesn't investigate) so you can spend that saved action on a click of resources anyway, I agree slip away is way less usable but burning the midnight oil is effectively fast as long as you do any basic investigates.

Burning the midnight oil is the new Dr. Milan. Milan costs 7 actions over 6 turns to get positive 2 resources. Burning the midnight oil is 1 action and 2 resources. This card opens up the ally slot for something more useful for any investigator with base 5 intellect. Bring it with E cache if you need, but Milan is too costly for what he provides for a 5 intellect gator.
edit: also you are incentivized to avoid using Milan for more than 1 horror soak. This allows you to instead use Library Assitant/Dr William T Maleson, or use Art Student/Library Docent for a transient ally that is immediately useful for soak.

Disc of Itzamna is very good in Norman. Cost of 2 from the top of your deck, and instantly kills your hounds

also sidenote: im pretty sure they'll never make an alt version of deduction because what would there be to stop all seekers from taking both deduction and that alt version? Cuz you can play 4 copies of Azure Flame/Shriv, but you really shouldn't be able to play 4 copies of Deduction. (Ahem, i know that you technically can with 2 copies of PMP, but STILL)

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding your point but you are only allowed to have two copies of any card in your deck unless the card itself says otherwise. Even if you upgrade those cards you must remove the lower level. So according to the rules you will never be able to have more than two Azure Flames or two Shriveling. The level doesn't matter. Just 2 total.
