    Drivers were getting bent out of shape over 3 cents per mile?
    I ran for IT for four years, 2016-2020, and never had to experience a rate decrease. In 2020 I was making $1.40 per mile and ran all the way through the pandemic. Many drivers had quit during that time because they could make more money by sitting at home and waiting for the gummint checks to arrive. Dummy me, I kept running. IT couldn't get the drivers to come back until they raised the rate to $1.80 per mile.
    But I liked running for IT and talked to other drivers about their deals at competing dispatchers. I didn't think that other companies were much better or even as good. IT improved the convenience of picking loads and driver amenities at the terminal every year that I was with them.

    so the fuel surcharge rate is a fee added onto the shipping bill paid by the dealers, recouped by the shipper (ie IT). They can set this rate to whatever they like and typically base it on the average national fuel prices. However they are under no legal obligation to pass a set amount onto the driver. So as fuel goes up, they charge the dealer more for fuel surcharges, and then can make the decision to keep the additional profit or pass it onto the drivers. No idea how or why the driver's fuel surcharge when DOWN, as fuel prices begain to rise earlier in the year. Clearly decentivising drivers however driving higher profits for Patrick. I am now shocked at the number of loads on the board and lack of drivers to move the frieght in the multihaul division. At current rates I might just sit home and wait for a increase in the rate before burning my profits only to increase Patrick's profits until we reach some more equitable homogeneous state.

      Doubtful that will happen. Not unless fuel falls back towards the $2.00 mark. Anyway…..guys have been talking about that since before I started doing RV hauling back in February.

    I haven’t started yet. Orientation with Jimbo on Tuesday 8/10 & 11.
    I have set up the profit first business model though, with 6 bank accounts and predetermined allocation percentages for each. I’m taking the next two weeks off of my day job and plan on running to see how things go. I’ll check after a couple of weeks.

    Sounds like a weed out , the strong will survive type of thing . So many RUclips people premotimg rv transport that they are flooded with drivers . I know only a certain percent actually make it but that 3 cents a mile thing will be huge for a guy that has to drive 500 miles to get to work , someone that lives in Georgia that has to get to Indiana to get started . Anyway , just sounds like there are only so many trailers to move and lots of trucks to move them and company is just going to see who really wants to do the job

    • @WeekendTruckin
      @WeekendTruckin  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for commenting, Dave! I live in Iowa and it's a 7 hour drive to the yard... the 3 cents doesn't hurt if you treat this like a business. It was more so a poorly executed pay cut from the lack of communication from the top down.

      This is a funny question because I’ve been a commercial driver for 30 years and I ran into three IT drivers while delivering in Washington State that I wouldn’t hire. There’s more, but I’ll keep it to myself. Unfortunately, every company has these drivers. Back to my point; they all left the dealership before me. I stopped to fill up my fuel tank and grab a bite to eat, then headed back East only to have all three scream by me like I was standing still. I run efficiently (under 65 mph) because fuel is my biggest expense. It’s a matter of physics. I’m always being passed by IT drivers…always! I often have the same drivers pass me multiple times on the highway within the same day. I’m set up for profit. I’m not stopping at every truck stop to grab a beverage and fuel because I’m efficient and conscientious.

      @@gabaquino it’s simple; they’re really not that smart and one conversation with them will tell you who and what they are…
      If you push your engine past it’s peak torque in the top gear, you’re wasting fuel, which is expensive. I have 3.42 gears. Peak torque is 1,700 rpm. This is why I run @ 63 mph loaded and 65 bobtail.

    Is that 65 or 70 take home including truck payment??? Asking because I'm interested in doing this. I've been an otr tractor trailer driver for over twenty years and I'm about to get out of it . Any info is appreciated thank you

    • @WeekendTruckin
      @WeekendTruckin  3 года назад

      Hey Roy! Your truck payment would come out of the 65-70k along with your insurance. But that’s a modest amount. Here’s a video I did on the different divisions and if you’re doing 1500 miles a week on your outbound loads- ruclips.net/video/nCM7QyRecPI/видео.html

      I'm averaging a take home of 70k a year after truck payment, insurance and maintenance fund. I started beginning of the year, and running it like a business. I live in Idaho and I'm usually home 2 days out of the week.. I say now is the best time to get in. If you can be successful in the worst of conditions, imagine when things get better. There's definitely money to be made, with the right attitude and mindset.

    • @WeekendTruckin
      @WeekendTruckin  3 года назад

      Hey Steve! Yes, that and just the truck/semi with a trailer too! Truck setup depends for the haul and tow. I've seen pickup trucks converted, box trucks(mine), and semi's. Shipsee and Absolute Fabrication both do custom work to create one for you! No clue on the price of what they charge though.

    The Fuel Charge is a government rate increase for operators only not brokers It is for operating the equipment ONLY it's in the Trucking Industry and has been for years. It is suppose to be against the law for the brokers to keep it. With over 30 years of experance in the trucking industry I think I know what I'm talking about.

    • @WeekendTruckin
      @WeekendTruckin  3 года назад +2

      Hey David! I think you know what you’re talking about too! 🤷‍♂️ RV transport may be a bit different from OTR trucking though, especially in this instance where you’re referring to brokers and we don’t deal with brokers.
