It's a really wonderful place. I always went there and played as a kid. You can go to a cool ass fort and the go directly to the beach. Best of both worlds.

We stayed at a Thousand Trails - Trails Collection RV Resort, Goose Creek RV & Camping Resort, Newport, NC. Cedar Point Campground is the nicest federal campground nearest to Atlantic Beach and Fort Macon. An affordable alternative in the spring and fall would be the Oyster Point federal campground (dry camping only) with nice RV sites for $10 per night retail or $5 with an Access Pass. Within the next week or so I'll be publishing a video on the Oyster Point Campground. Safe Travels.
