I appreciate the clarity of this presentation, and the fact that one can stop the video over and over again, in order to see how one's personal experience, or usual way of thought, relates to what's being said, and can both be better understood for its worth, or for its need for enhancement, with the help of this presentation.
Thank you Father Smith. I hope to attend one of your Masses. Taylors SC is truly blessed to have you as a priest. Your education is very very impressive. Good speaker too.
I appreciate this because I'm talking in circles with Catholics. Now I can hopefully talk not in circles. Faith does not come after salvation. For, Romans 10:31-32 says "but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works." So we see that you pursue righteousness through faith. Not the other way around. And Jesus says "whoever believes in him will have eternal life" John 3:15 and "and you are unwilling to come to me so that you may have life" John 5:40. So we see that we come to Jesus and believe in him for eternal life and not the other way around. And you see that we are saved by Christ and not by Christ and "in the Church." It is by Christ alone through believing in him alone.
At roughly 44:30 the priest says that "for Luther in some sense faith is a human act." This is the antithisis of what Luther believed. The Oxford theological dictionary has this quote of Luther"Faith is not a human act but rather (a) an act of God-that is, the power or action of God as a “divine work in us”. When you feel the need to miscaractorize a position of your opposing view it may be because your view lacks merit. In what sense did Luther believe faith to be a human act? Was it after God brought him from death to life? That would put a different light on it, wouldn't it. In fact the priest actually attributes faith to the human act of baptism at which time faith is sacramentally introduced. Which belief started with a human act?
Just looking how few people actually go to Confession today compared with how many go to take Holly Communion gives you an idea on how much “Catholic” people are today.
Christ says to the Father: Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me, but your will, not mine, be done. Did Christ limit himself to doing the Father's will? Wasn't it supposed to be his too? On the cross: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? "Why have you forsaken me"? But did Christ not know the plan of salvation? And was He not in agreement with him? There is something here that needs more and better explanations!
John Paul II, General Audience, Dec. 27, 1978 - “Jesus is the Second Person of the Holy Trinity become a man; and therefore in Jesus, human nature and therefore the whole of humanity, is redeemed, saved, ennobled to the extent of participating in ‘divine life’ by means of Grace.” John Paul II, Redemptoris Missio (# 4), Dec. 7, 1990 - “The Redemption event brings salvation to all, ‘for each one is included in the mystery of the redemption and with each one Christ has united himself forever through this mystery.’”

Because He (Jesus) is the (Eternal Son) of God. He existed in all eternity before His incarnation as The Only Begotten Son of The Father. Therefore it would be fitting that He be a human man. Also when God created the human being, He created man first and then He created the woman from the rib of Adam.
@@Mkvine “Context” This verse has nothing to do with the New Testament plan of salvation. It describes how God treated the Gentiles from Noah to Christ. In the Old Testament, if a Gentile lived right and continued to do right, God gave him “ eternal life” In the New Testament, if a Gentile does not have access to the scriptures and yet lives right, the Lord obligates Himself to get the gospel to that person so he can receive Christ and get “ eternal life” Two examples of this can be found in Acts 10:4, 13:48. 2tim. 2:15 You must divide the word of truth ,”who is being spoken too and what time period it is applied” Romans 2: 6-7 All sinners without Scripture will be judged by their own consciences.

You said that the Gentile gets eternal life by God leading them to the Gospel. But Paul, after saying people receive eternal life based on their good works, calls this his “Gospel” in verse 16. So even if God leads a Gentile to the Gospel, we just saw that eternal life by good works is part of the Gospel. Second, your explanation of the OT fails to account that the OT is something in the past, while Paul is talking about a *future judgement* in verses 6 & 7. So this means that for Paul, works still play a role in salvation in the NT era since there will be a future judgement based on works.
