Good video. Hard to really show what's going on in such a tight space but you guys did a great job with lighting and trying your best not to get in the way of the camera. I do have a suggestion for what you could use to replace that retention pin instead of a drill bit. Drill bits are very brittle and might snap when being used in this method, especially if someone decided to use a smaller diameter bit than what you used. I would use a nail instead as they are ductile and would bend before breaking, a dime a dozen, and if you accidentally left it in before removing the tensioner, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I'm not familiar with how much force the spring inside the tension arm is applying so take this suggestion for what it is, a thought.
Thank you for upload. Yesterday changed and replaced my belt, two pulleys and the tension pulley. N55gas 3.5 Xi x5. Current mileage 176,741 kms. When I took out the lower pulley that was making a sound, probably was the original factory. I bought the pulley and tensioner from FCP - OEM. Fit like glove. The top pulley was leaking some grease also. Ok
Great video, just did it to my m235i. If you have any mechanical knowledge then this is very easy to do, just make sure you have the right tools for the job.
At 60k miles I had my belt rip off, and dig through the crankshaft seal (front main seal). Pieces of belt ended up inside of the engine. Thankfully I turned the car off on time and we were able to pull the bottom end off and clean out all the belt pieces. 50k mike is a must for belt and tensioner replacement on these cars.
Just today i had done a quick first gear pull and after when I was coming to a stop I heard a noise as if I was dragging something from my bumper I was at my gate for my community when the belt ripped off got home and shut the car, my friend mentioned this same worry, is it easy for it to slip into the crankshaft pull ?

2015, F10, N55. After replacing the ser. belt, the tensioner and the idler pulley, i have a feeling that the engine is more responsive, almost no lag! Does that make any sense? Thanks @kiesmotorsports
You shouldn't need the drillbit. That's why they don't provide a metal rod for your old tensioner. It's meant for you to remove the belt while holding the tensioner with the T60. Once you have the belt off, you can release the T60. They have the new one set for your convenience only. I like your idea because the engine bay is tight. But just saying you don't need the drillbit. You can save the metal rod from the new tensioner for the next job.
Going to be doing this soon but I don’t see why you’d need the drill bit … can you just remove the belt from the tensioner pulley immediately and then you won’t need to the pulley to be locked anymore?
Fantastic videos thanks guys. 2 questions hopefully someone can help. 1. I suspect this is the repair that I need to do, but I'm not 100% sure. My car currently makes a weird high pitched noise a little that sounds like the tensioner/belt needs to be replaced (I had done this previously at ~65k about 2 years ago. I'm at around 81.5k miles now sounds similar to before when I changed it). What are the normal side effects/tell tell signs that I need to change em. 2. I have a 2013 335i xdrive coupe e92. Anything that I would have to do differently on my specific model? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for excellent video. I need to do this on my N54T. Have tensioner & two deflection pulleys ready to go. The torque specs confuse me. I've seen one sheet that days 40nm on all. Then another that says 60nm on deflection pulley & 25nm +90 degree turn on tensioner. Why so varied?
That's funny cause i just replaced my bmw 535i f10 M-Sport belt tensioner, two idler pulleys & German serpentine belt all OEM, yet my tensioner pulley still shakes as the new belt vibrates next to it so urs on this video seems normal. The problem with the old tensioner was that not only did it vibrated more than the new one but it also made bearing noise! When the lettering on the old belt shows fading, then it's time for a new one!
Hey was your idler pulleys hard to change ? I have the same car and by the looks of it, it looks like there’s hoses in the way on the upper idler pulley.
This. I changed my tensioner pulley recently since my old one shakes like what’s in the video. Then new one goes in and it was steady for a few days then it shakes again. So the shakes are normal as long as it doesn’t make any weird noise.
I ordered the tensioner and came today but no bolt. I plan on doing this tomorow, not a big deal if I use the same bolt that’s on the old tensioner right?

On the F10 535i, there is a bracket that blocks the bolt head of the Idler pulley, this bracket holds in place the two AC compressor hoses.
