    What has happened to Sky Sports Boxing and Ben Shalom? Once the home of boxing the glamorous matchroom and Eddie Hearn tied up the British Boxing scene but after Eddie parted ways with Sky Sports Boxing to go to DAZN, Ben Shalom took over, and everything changed. With the like of Richard Riakphore, Buatsi, Azeez, Chris Billam Smith, Lawrence Okolie, Frazer Clarke on their roster to name a few surely boxing should be flying for the long time media giant...but Eddie and Frank Warren are still on top...

    They miss Eddie. Yes, guys like Joshua will sell to the casuals, but I learned about so many undercard fighters because of Eddie shouting their names from the rooftops. It's fine to have a promoter who isn't front and centre, but then the fighters need to have the personality to fill the void. Once Sky decide to have Okolie as their face of boxing, it was over from there 😂

    Ben burnt a lot of bridges with Eddie that didn't need to be burnt initially fighters were released even under contract (Hughie Fury etc) as Sky had more money, fighters like Baumgardner were sent over for fights (none back) but then that match fixing buddy of his (as per the Times article last weekend) got involved and he started poaching fighters under contract Eddie wanted and refusing purse bids . I see the common denominator as sky. When eddie was at sky him and frank seemed to refuse to work together and there was almost no collaboration, but since he has left they have both seemed to be more willing to let their fighters go on the others shows and are now with that oily turkey money they are actually working together. Maybe it is sky and the way they work that is the problem here.

    • @98coxl
      @98coxl 8 месяцев назад +3

      I'd love to agree with you, but the real common denominator is Saudi money

    • @colinwyatt-goodall4632
      @colinwyatt-goodall4632 8 месяцев назад +1

      @HellBlazerMNE07 i think you have misunderstood me. When i say the Turkey money i dont mean the country (which is actually spelled Turkiye) I'm just using the name oily turkey to refer to an actual group of Turkies from Saudi. They have gotten fed up with all the cock fighting over there and are now paying money double money to make humans fight for their entertainment.

    • @colinwyatt-goodall4632
      @colinwyatt-goodall4632 8 месяцев назад

      @HellBlazerMNE07 I do agree that the saudi money has been the biggest influence. Promoters are all looking to protect interests etc etc but you have to admit relations between eddie and frank started to thaw a little after eddie left sky, even before these turkies came to sheikh things up with their money. Im just saying this coupled with Shaloms sudden u-turn on wanting to work with others indicates taht sky seems to have a problem working with others.

    eddie actually promotes his fighters. look how many views his interviews get, compared to anyone else.
    he makes people want to watch the fights. he probably brings fighters an extra 10% just from talking.
    then there's the cards. none of these promoters really put on good undercards.
    matchroom fights you can watch good fights even on the undercards.
    all fans want are good fights. not just a half decent fight right at the end.

    The one NATURAL rivalry they had with Catterall vs Taylor they didn't bother to capitalise on it, now years later its reportedly happening. I'm so envious of my Dads time watching boxing, rivalries back then MADE the sport as well as the fighters themselves. He got to watch Ali, Frazier,Foreman,Holmes,Liston,Leonard,Hagler,Duran,Hearns,Eubank,Benn,Tyson,Holyfield ETC. All of those top guys had rivalries with each other and most importantly in a short space of time so people actually cared and remembered what they were fighting for. Just seems like now there's no point of watching or even caring about boxing nowadays.

    Have to be honest Sky Sports Boxing has become dire, average overhyped fighters being lauded as world beaters when they are average at best, compared to the great match ups of the 90s, this present day lot just don’t compare but for me, the quality of fighters just isn’t around anymore sadly.

    Sky sports generally been on the downward spiral for many a year - lost the rugby union, lost the champions league, matchroom.. the list goes on. The subs don't come down either..

    The problem is Shalom. The dense fool. Takes away other fighters opportunities to save face. Absolutely ridiculous.

    This vid might be the best argument for the Saudi shenanigans... despite no-one being able to afford to go in person (fans I mean) at least we are getting more solid fights, although there is still a way to go there too, the Dec 23 event matchups could have been
    better

    The reality is this video has done more for exposure of sky boxing than all of Shaloms contribution combined so far

    When your whole plan is basically trying to be the English version of the PBC things like this can happen.

    The best fights on Sky Sports are coming from teaming up with ESPN and top rank, apart from that, as illustrated in their Fight of the year video posted to youtube, it's was horrendous.

    Bring back old smithy man, he was the voice of sky and had class chemistry with johnny nelson. Fuck me i remember the old sky fight nights on a friday and Saturday, none of that entrance shite like the wwe, just put good fighters against good fighters, there is definitely a market for solid domestic fights
