O.H.M.S.S., a personal favourite, is surely among the best five, at the very least for its integrity in attempting to bring Bond back to Fleming's vision - and, of course, for Tracy. Though occasionally in the film there are moments where Lazanby lacks the slick carriage of a more experienced film actor, his vulnerability actually augments his performance once the film gets going: his casual, almost ironic toss offs of lines that Connery would have slightly milked (albeit brilliantly), his fear during the foot chase, the look on his face as he waves to Moneypenny before setting off on his honeymoon...and, or course, the final moments of the film about which nothing need be said.
I'd love a scenario where MGM and etc wrangled all of the rights and sorted out any issues necessary to one day include things like this and the "Diamonds Aren't Forever" episode as bonus materials for some future James Bond Box Set or release of OHMSS

Sam Rolfe and Norman Felton worked on developing Man From U.N.C.L.E. for television, but the character of "Napoleon Solo" was created by Ian Fleming however when the show's rough draft for the pilot episode was called simply; "Solo".
On Her Majesty's Secret Service is actually the best Bond movie of them all. Best story, certainly,, and easily the best Bond girl. Tracy is independent, brave, clever, doesn't instantly fall in love with Bond. Lazenby was perfectly good as Bond, and had he carried on and done a couple more movies...remember, he was not fired, he QUIT - he would be at least as popular a 007 as Timothy Dalton is/was. Ever notice how almost nobody mentions Dalton's two-film stint as Bond? Daylights and License were not bad movies, and he was not a bad Bond...they just weren't very good, either and Dalton never looked like he was enjoying himself in the part. Daniel Craig is so wooden and unappealing as 007, he makes Lazenby look like Connery.

@ejay1118 Don't forget his Bond "return" in the Bond Spoof, "Get Smart" film, The Nude Bomb. Personally, seeing him act in a Bond-like role is the next best thing to a follow-up to his one and sadly, only performance as the legendary 007.
George Lazenby could have been a great 007 had he tackled the role at least 2 more times, then hand it over to Roger Moore. But Lazenby didn't want to get typecast as James Bond. Unfortunately - and ironically - his one and only James Bond outing is what he's famous for. Timothy Dalton played 007 only twice and most thought he sucked, but it wasn't that - after 12 years of Roger Moore's comedic and sometimes slapstick Bond the next generation was ill-prepared for Dalton's serious, Sean Connery-inspired version. In hindsight Dalton was great. He was onboard for a third Bond outing but the studios took so long to get another story out that he lost interest and moved onto other things (Dalton was actually tagged to play Bond in1969 but he declined, citing his then too-youthful appearance and inexperience and Lazenby got the part). Pierce Brosnan who began playing Bond on 1995 was actually considered for the role before Dalton but was already doing Remington Steel, which was oddly a version of James Bond. By 1995 Remington Steel was over and Brosnan was available... and the rest is history.
+Locktwiste72 The typecasting thing is all bollocks. The real reason he didn't come back was he was manipulated by his agent into a contract that forced him to obey the agent's decisions as far as his career was concerned. @CaptainBuckRogers They offered him a large sum of money =) He was paid 2 million pounds (the largest amount for a actor at that time) and the promise that UA would back projects that Connery wanted to do.
@ELO1138 - That's a shame. I always thought Connery should have gone out on "Secret Service" and then Lazenby could have done the more lightweight "Diamonds are Forever."
@vaj99 - Cars don't explode in "real life." But they blow up all the time in "television/movie world" so the people who drive them always know what to watch out for.
@intrepidlikes ~ George Lazenby actually made a career out of "not playing" James Bond. I think he did the commercial where an "agent" in a silver Aston Martin is fitted out for his latest mission and everything turns out to be from Panasonic. Also there was an "American Ninja" series where he was a CIA agent... who happened to have an English accent and drive a silver tricked-out Aston Martin!
Ian Fleming worked with the show's creator Norman Felton and created the names of April Dancer and Napoleon Solo. The fact that the show didn't mention him by name only JB, and mentioned "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". I'm sure EON just let it slide as an homage to Fleming. Interestingly Lazenby looked better than Vaughn in that sequence. Couldn't they have picked a better car than a K-Car convertible? Give Solo a Vette at least?
James Bond actual name couldn't be used in the TV film, the abbreviated initials are to hint that its; James Bond without giving it a dead on shoutout loud etc's.

Actually, I mis-posted. I've never seen the car in the series. I've seen pictures of the car on the back of the paperback books. (You want to cry? My wife was sitting in her office bar one afternoon reading one when a voice behind her said; "Where in Hell did you get THAT?" Turned around and it was Vaughn! He signed her copy! The crying part? They got put into storage at one point and were lost! Some body has a box of UNCLE books with an autographed copy in it!
ejay1118 I know the feeling. I lost my autographed David McDaniel books when I lost my storage along with many UNCLE collectibles.
@CaptainBuckRogers They offered him a large sum of money =)
He was paid 2 million pounds (the largest amount for a actor at that time) and the promise that UA would back projects that Connery wanted to do.
@ELO1138 - That's a shame. I always thought Connery should have gone out on "Secret Service" and then Lazenby could have done the more lightweight "Diamonds are Forever."
I disagree. The Dalton films are great and Timothy Dalton is my favorite James Bond with Craig and Lazenby being in the top 3.
What's new? Lots of DB5s had an oil leak.
@ThatDudeWithTheCap1
Since Q put them last week
Cameo Presence & 007 screen time closure For GL 😎
@vaj99 - Cars don't explode in "real life." But they blow up all the time in "television/movie world" so the people who drive them always know what to watch out for.
@intrepidlikes ~ George Lazenby actually made a career out of "not playing" James Bond. I think he did the commercial where an "agent" in a silver Aston Martin is fitted out for his latest mission and everything turns out to be from Panasonic. Also there was an "American Ninja" series where he was a CIA agent... who happened to have an English accent and drive a silver tricked-out Aston Martin!
Yes, very good. And OHMSS, maybe the best Bond film overall.
@leftcoast67 - Solo wasn't working for U.N.C.L.E. at the time. That's why he didn't have the cool car from that period OR remembered to carry a gun.
That was funny.
Many people are harsh on Lazenby in OHMSS and I understand why, but I believe he could have been a good Bond if he had been in more movies
JB...¿Jason Bourne? No. ¿Jack Bauer? No. ¿The whiskey? No. ¿Jacqueline Bisset (the actress)? No. ¿James Bond? Yes. Finally!
+Sergio Ramón Rodríguez Cajiga
Shaken but not stired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought it was Jack Black
Ah yes. We thought that CBS was going to bring back the Man From U.N.C.L.E. SAdl;y that didn't happen. Yes George Lazenby was here as 007.
This never happened to the other fella
Is that meant to be James Bond?
His license plate gives away his identity. He needs to work on the secrecy aspect of being a secret agent.
+Unknown Clown
Nope - he is a whiskey selsman - JB blended scotch whiskey.
James Bond actual name couldn't be used in the TV film, the abbreviated initials are to hint that its; James Bond without giving it a dead on shoutout loud etc's.
I mean.... for a "secret agent", people seem to know who he is anyway! Tiffany Case and the cop in San Francisco both knew his name. XD
They're searching for a new Bond, I'm sure George would be available if they want to go back to the roots
Broccoli didn't want him back for him leaving him high and dry.
Broccoli had offered him a 7 film contract of which Lazenby turned down.
