As an enthusiast with a (soon to be astro modified) Z6Ii plus a brand new Z6III, just wondering if you have ever considered doing a video to run through the workflow for editing Milky Way photos from an astro-modified camera. In particular how to make the reds 'pop' versus the standard camera configuration. Your techniques have proven invaluable. Keep up the great work.

    • @nightscapeimages.richard
      @nightscapeimages.richard  4 месяца назад +1

      No, when I do multiple light painted shots they are all focused at the same point. .in fact they are all focused to infinity. Due to the fact that it's at f8 everything is in focus with the 16mm lens. The multiple images are simply lit from different angles and then I blend the one's I want to use in editing later.
      I have many videos on this technique. See here: ruclips.net/p/PLAYKmqkUeSM_ovfT8k7ifk26X4zjeqJWb

    thanks Richard, your skill is top of the world. Wish you live in Qld. it seems you use the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 more often than the Z20mm f/1.8. you know when using Z lens, it automatic focus to infinity when switch on the camera, would the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 doing the same when switch on the camera or you will have to manually focus to the star or turn the focus ring to infinity? Because i found it is difficult for me to focus on star manually through the LCD screen due to just start using multi focal glasses, so hard to see small screen with and without glasses 😅. if the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 can autofocus to infinity like z lens, I will consider to buy this lens. thank you in advance.

      @@nightscapeimages.richard I’m looking for a very wide lens to put on my Z8. I have watched a lot of videos about this lens and its competition.
      I’ve noticed that this lens has pretty poor star rendition at the edge of the frame, with lots of astigmatism and coma. Something the new Sigma 14/1.4 (sadly only for Sony and Leica atm) does not have. At all. That lens’s image quality is undeniably the best in the Milky Way photography space (pun intended).
      Since nothing is free in life, the Sigma is about 3 times the cost and 4 times the size of the Viltrox. I don’t mind size and I’m willing to “invest” (euphemism for “spend” if you want to give it a more aristocratic vibe) the money. I just wish it were natively compatible with Nikon Z bodies, as good adaptors set you back another 250USD.
      I was wondering whether you noticed the optical defects of the Viltrox and how do you get rid of them when doing panos? Also, have you considered the Sigma? If so, why did you decide to go with the Viltrox? If not, why not?
      Thank you, and keep producing those amazing images!
      One last thing: if you want to not be bothered by mosquitoes, use a DEET spray. They are very effective and last a long time. I would know, I’m a mosquito magnet on legs.
