    I haven’t shot HFT yet, but my club has two championship courses. I am just getting the hang of my HW 97KT. So doing lots of practice on the plinking range and shooting at paper targets. I find your videos, most informative and inspirational. Thank you and keep up the good work.

  • @bobpattenden

    Another vote for the HW99, just dont push the power up too much, being such a light gun they recoil quite hard, keep around 10.5 to 11 ft/lb
    For slightly more money you can get the HW57 which is basically an underlever version of the HW95, its an often overlooked rifle.
    I would always go for a fixed barrel rifle over a break barrel. As for the really cheap guns the biggest problem I find with them is the trigger and to be fair, there is a lot of strain on a springer trigger. Some have a HW/AA copy of a trigger and can be fettled to work well but the other problem is the internals are normally design for export power with large diameter pistons and long strokes, this makes tuning for sub 12 a pain. Next problem the barrels can be hit or miss (pun intended) ive had some very accurate "cheap" barrels but some very bad ones that wouldnt group with any pellet.

    I took delivery of my new BSA meteor super last night. I havent put a pellet through it yet but will let you know how it gets on. Im used to a BSA R10th so a springer with some recoil will be a challenge, which I like.

    A HW99s is a great budget springer in my opinion. Obviously no break barrel air gun is going to have the consistency of an under lever, but the hw99s is still a great rifle.
    A little on the light side so can be difficult to hold still in position and group well, but with some practice it’s a great entry level springer for HFT. They come with a dovetail to mount an optic and the iron sights are easily removable to get out of the way of the optic.

    First thing I have not yet shot an HFT or FT course. I enjoy watching your videos and I am hoping to put your advice into practice soon. Watching a HFT Vlog would be good. I have sympathy with your Knees, so here is a rule question are you allowed kneeling pads of any kind?

    • @garychillingworth

    I would be interested to see how a cheap co2 gun would do, a few years ago and what got me back into airguns, I had rats around my small hen house, couldn't use my rim fire because it's in my back garden ! So I bought a crossman ratter, you only get 20 useable shots on a cartridge but it only cost me £120 with a sight and sound moderator, it got in a 2 year period, out of a window at 20 ish meter 213 rats and made me get back into airguns, I think that would be a good budget gun to try out !

    What glove do you use and what benefits do you get by shooting with one other than gripping a rough post?

    • @garychillingworth
      @garychillingworth 2 года назад

      Hi Richarrd, it's the Anchutz 110. The main benefit is taking any pulse away and you can grip the rifle, but the glove alowes some recoil. An absolute must for a springer.

    Hi Gary, again fabulous video, thank you. At 6 mins 55 seconds you mention cheek piece welded to the stock nice and tight and of course your butt pad resting on the ground. One thing I’m never sure is how firmly to rest my cheek against the stock when shooting, even plinking targets, or gripping the rifle within the shoulder and hand. As a golfer of old, not a good one I might add, I was taught not to ‘strangle’ the grip as the end result was twisting the shaft resulting in pulling the club head round and hooking the shot.
    What’s the guidance on a rifle grip? You say welded, sort of implies, pushed hard against? Butt pud resting on ground but with a springer what about recoil? I guess similarly if I’m shooting from shoulder how firm into the shoulder? If using left hand to support spring rifle, how firmly to hold or does it just float on the hand? So many questions I know, but any guidance would as always be greatly appreciated. Cheers again 👍

    Given you are not allowed to adjust the scope at the peg, what type of scope to use and how do you cope with it being out of focus?
    If you focus on the AO it will tell you the range, which is cheating. But the target is blurred, argh. Probably a can of worms question.

    • @ShootingCountryTV
      @ShootingCountryTV  2 года назад +2

      Hi Jeff, you need a scope with a good depth of field. For me the Optisan CP is clear from 16 to 40 yards. Blur from 40 to 45 (can help with gauging distance) and slight blur from 11 to 15. The 8 to 11 yards is very blurry and to see the kill, i draw my head back along the comb and that brings it in.
