I was a Helicopter Evacuation Senior Flight Medic. Which my local doctor wants to take X-rays also carrying injured members of the military and it now hurts to a point which I can’t carry heavy things because at the end of my day I am extremely exhausted.

Great advice about not pushing past the pain. It wasn't until my appeal that a doctor mentioned this. All other VA or VA 3rd party doctors never mentioned this to me.

Outstanding information guys. I've asked this question before but I'm going to ask it again because I keep learning from you the right questions to ask. My scenario: I'm a retired 60 year old disabled Marine who was service connected in 2004 at 40% for lumbar degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis and sciatica and 10% for pattelar chondomalacia with degenerative disc disease in my right knee. Since then my conditions have gotten worse, e.g., right knee surgery and am now having secondary issues with my hips, left knee, neck and shoulders. Unsure if there is a nexus, but in my military mind since my surgery it seems like I've experienced a cascading affect stemming from my 2 SCDs. Are they related, who knows. I do know however, comma, I'm broken down and can't function at the optimum performance levels I once could. I scheduled a VA appointment to get their take but suspect they will just prescribe me more happy pills. Having said that I need a plan B just in case. I'm fortunate as I have a gold standard private medical plan I can use should the VA misdiagnose my complaints. I feel letting the VA have the first say is a appropriate approach rather than going VFR direct to a law firm. Any feedback from you is greatly appreciated. Semper Fi, Ken

It is difficult to say without reviewing the medical records but some have evidence of damage to other joints from the severity of the service connected conditions. It all depends on what your specific situation is and what the records show.

33 years as a rated disabled vet.
My 100% was denied because my “scars on back are not significant enough to affect employability.” The scars from surgury- I am 280 lb man in his 50s- not a swimsuit model.
I submitted records for both surgeries which somehow were never out in my Va records.
The VA is designed to appear to help veterans while creating revenue for private contractors. Not designed to actually help veterans if they can squirm out of it.

Hey guys I got denied for my lumbar spine. This was back in 2011 because I lacked medical evidence and a current diagnosis. I thought because I was a sick hall twice for my back that I would get SC automatic.
Fast forward 11 years. I now have a diagnosis, with MRIS, and receiving help from a physical therapist.
My question is because I now suffer from radiculopathy,, osteoarthritis, with a crooked spine. Should I mention to the C&zap examiner about these conditions ?
I’m afraid if I do I can’t claim them as secondaries. Just needing some help.
    Thank you all.

I have a diagnosis but they have denied based off lack of evidence of service connection. I have an MRI that lists multiple diagnosis, multiple bulging disc and stenosis. I never went to sick call much. But 10 years running and gunning in the military is certainly the cause of my back pain. Running on hard ball every day, lifting heavy equipment and loading and unloading connexes, doing all kinds of Celestenics bad for you on the daily, carrying heavy loads during movement, and obstacle courses. I beat my body up bad because of the demand required of me. The most physical I have ever been for ten long years. Physical demands outside of service do not come close to compare and it was initiated during service. I have had back pain since before I got out of the military but I wasn’t a sick call Ranger. So it’s not well documented during service, but while in and continues to get worse out. Previous to exiting service and since I have had back pain and numbness on the right lower extremities on the lateral side to my toes. Now it is becoming hard to deal with 10 years out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My issue is getting it service connected. I know I have a car accident documented and I believe after deployment I did some physical therapy close to ETS but they may have missed it. I’m only 40 years old and my back is hurting basically all day, every day, and I’m worried about it. My other claims were found and service connected, however this is of great importance to me. I will not give up. It’s obvious to me but I’m trying to get insite on how to move this ahead if possible. Because I know my back issues originated during my service. I want to be treated for my ailments.

I have been trying to get help for years, Almost every med i am prescribed by VA is for my Back or Mental health. but yet no rating 0%. I have gone to 3 different advocate to help and no results. What is a Vet suppose to do? I am tired of getting no results from places that say you'll get results.

I went once in 2016, i got out in 97 and i was given the zero rating for hurting my back which as yall know is still a disability rating just not enough to get compensated, so in 2016 i went back and pushed through the pain like you advised against. Finally i couldn't take the lower back pain any more and went back in 2023 and was rated a 60 percent. Now im having trouble with my hips and need to go back but i dont have the energy or the knowledge to explain exactly how its affecting my hips i just know the lower back pain is affecting my hips

The only time you should be happy with your VA disability rating percentage is if you believe you’re getting everything you deserve; legally, morally, ethically, and medically. If you think you deserve an increase, open a new claim on VA.gov and file for it!
if you need further assistance, we're here when you need us!

Is it okay to get a MRI of your head and back. Do you recommend that if I get a second opinion from a Local Doctor who is a Orthopedic Surgeon and he wants me to get a MRI done so he can see it on my MRI. I take MRI’s 2 times a year and was told to trying to get the MRI under the 38 CFR. I have a claim in currently for migraines headaches secondary to tinnitus. I currently am at 90% and trying to raise to 100%. What are my chances to raise my percentage?
