The 2F motors are great. Some people hate it when you re-power an original truck, some people hate Chevy V8's too. It's a personal thing I think. Personally, I love the sound of a V8 not too mention the extra torque it gives you.
awesome fj40, im a patrol man but my dad owned one and i grew up fourwheel driving with him in it, will always have a soft spot for the fj40, and yours is very impressive :D
Way to not give up when you were almost stuck there! I've been offroading with my friends but never had my own rig yet. I'm building up a CJ7 and Scout II right now. Whichever is done first hits the mud and rocks first :) Right now the Jeep is winning. My second choice for a rig was an FJ40 but I came across my CJ7 for 400 bucks!

Sure. It's rare to find one rust free these days. If you're going to repower it with a V8 be prepared to spend a lot. The cheaper way would be to find the original motor and box. In stock form they really are a great machine..
i see a lot of the fj40 have a slant 6 in them, are the engin mounts the same as in a old jeep? becouse i have a 76 jeep with a great slant 6 i could use in my 1980 fj40
When you doing V8 conversion, does you change gear box also? really envy what you doing to your fj40.It very difficult to get this information in Malaysia since no one doing this conversion.Really need your advise. thanks.
The original gearbox/transfer case is ok to use. But you have to change the bowl housing between the motor and gearbox. We use an aftermarket one for the job down here from marks4wd.com Hope that helps.

toyota really makes good 4 wheel drives and their other autos are excellent too, they give you your money's worth and a whole lot more.

This amazing video should be for a Toyota ad, this is cool i like the that yellow 40 moves in the mud and water...its like a submarine.
i got a 78 fj40 with 38.5 inch tires. those things really are beasts. i just need to get a snorkle though.
