There's something so thoughtful about the types of bodies included in Orville's music videos. There's something so real and intimate about the care put into making everyone look like they belong.
That’s a sweet sentiment. Because let’s face it, drag and rodeos aren’t exactly historically aligned. A guy in classic drag with an enormous wig would stick out like a sore thumb at a rodeo. Here it’s seamless, more or less. Pretty video.

I really like how Orville Peck is subverting the cowboy image in country music to reflect another side of masculinity. Very tastefully done and quite an important video with crucial messaging.

One of the really great phenomena about overting homoerotic imagery is that once the gays have it the straights can never have it back. It's a claiming of space that's deliberate and profound because it requires the user of that imagery to re-evaluate not only it's context but themselves & their place in it.

Orville Peck is a genius and I don't feel slighted or like somethings been changed forever when he injects his vision and his twist on the southern "ballad"( I hate calling it country music since I don't really care for it much) He's one of the first lgbtq artist to make me actually appreciate his sexuality being a part of his musical identity and I can sit through everyone one of his videos as gay as they are and vibe without feeling like he's forever "ruined" something for straight people. Short version: The genre is for every one, he's expanding it. Tooting horns and claiming comes off antagonistic, he's one of yaw'll but he ain't JUST for yaw'll. We winning too from his artistry.

I loved your music when i found it, but when i dug deeper i was so, so happy! being someone whos trans n gay in the south is hard, it's hard to align yourself with these events and aesthetic without feeling inherently threatened or like you have to shed the truth of being trans or gay etc etc. you make it look easy, orville!
I live in A place where it's still fully looked down on. I'm straight, but it still bugs the hell out of me. Straight enough anyway. Had racism thrown my way, to the point of death threats, even though I'm white. Just dark complected. Not the same, but still frustrating and upsetting. Anyway, I can't imagine and I'm glad you found something that puts you at ease A bit.

i’ve always been hesitant to embrace being from the south as there are such... heavily religious and intolerant tones, especially as a gay trans man. thank you so much for showing that i am allowed to be a part of this, not despite being lgbt, but embracing and accepting both parts. i wish you and your career all the best!

Something about Orville's music... I grew up in Texas, in a strong Southern environment - and though I live more in the city now, I grew up around my extended family out northeast and in the country/rodeo environment. And while it's nostalgic for me, I always felt... disconnected from it. Even before I knew I was queer, I knew I was different, I wasn't really like everyone. And it sort of ruined the nostalgia a bit. Like, what was this disconnect? Why didn't I feel like I belonged? And then when I did discover I was queer, I was like, oh that's why. These are mutually exclusive things and I don't belong. I did not belong inside my own childhood nostalgia, I did not belong in my own culture. And that hurt, that felt so isolating.
But other country LGBTQ+ folks, people living here in the American South who are becoming more accepting, who are becoming more brave about how they are, makes me realize these things are not mutually exclusive - I can be queer and enjoy and even belong in my culture. I can be proud of myself and my culture. Orville's music (in addition to all the other LGBTQ+ country artists, but Orville's just speaks to me in particular) recontextualizes country music and says "nope, we belong here too, we were born into this just like everyone else here". Sorry, long comment, but it just speaks to me in that particular way. 💖

This song and this album and this video have really had me reevaluating myself and thinking through aspects of my gender identity that I never wanted to consider or have just played off jokingly in the past. I feel like It's almost the universe's joke that I've come to these realizations through country music, but it also just makes sense.
