Out of curiousty, why the change in the shell? Now 7 ply versus 6 previously, correct?

Probably went from 6 to 7 because they no longer have the formica outer color layer which helped to stiffen the shell. They needed to add one more ply to help maintain the rigidity as the 3 pearl colors are the plastic wraps and the solid colors are painted shells. Thus the price increase for adding the maple ply and (plastic wrap or paint) which cost more than formica.
