    No.If the tide is running you let a bit of line out so the current pulls the wires in the same direction as the tide is flowing. If you tighten up as soon as the lead hits bottom, water pressure on the line will drag the lead round/out of position. Its traditional to let a bit of line out to make a "belly". The bite is either straight over on the rod tip, or you get a "slack liner" as the lead is pulled out.

    A peeler crab will always let out more scent than a hardback, but you need to fish hardbacks near where they live,ie. a bit of rough ground, or obviously where fish are finding them naturally. Even a breakwater will have a resident crab population around its base and the fish will be searching near there. I like to tip the hook with squid to give a bit of visual attraction.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 лет назад +1

    You can use crabs part-frozen,live,dead,whatever. Hook size? Better with say a 4/0,but wide gape ? At least that's what we find. Watch out for the next couple of shore films up, some great tips on those.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 лет назад +1

    Hermit crabs can be a great bait. Softer than a green hardback shore crab so you might want to bind them on with elasticated thread if punching out any distance. Great new shore/rock film going up next Tuesday,6th August 2013.Could be the best shore film I've done to date, and some unbelievable end photography shots. Watch out for it.Those Hermits wouldn't last long where I was fishing, that's for sure !!

    That's a Conoflex(British made) Integra Uptide rod. Comes with two tips casting range of weights. Used for uptide fishing from a boat, but I quite like it as a bonus rod with a big bait from the shore. Check out next Tuesday's shore film(Up 7pm,6th August 2013) more casting rod action.

    if I was new at this or as I am 44 years of angling and dangling .... I would still be here learning, and laughing ... thats one thing Graeme, you can make me smile when the world poo poo'd in my hat ......so I am still here, and always learning... this is the one art form that has no final benchmarks ... everyone can become a specialist in their own style with great tips like yours ... and expertise is so boring... expertise means I'd have nothing left to do ... 😊

    Don't think I've ever seen them in the states, they use sand spikes a lot. You can make your own by cutting a slant on a piece of plumbing sink waste pipe.

    Next Tuesday 6th August-7pm. Its going to give Shore anglers the boost they don't get on television. Forget anything you've seen on our shows to date,this one really is the business. There won't be a beach angler in the world that won't want to hit the beaches and rocks after he sees the angler I've filmed.Possibly the best angler/caster I've ever seen in my life. Don't miss it !! I'm hoping for a Oscar for the end scenes photography !!

    Just started sea fishing and I'm still to catch my first fish. TAFishing has provided me with some awesome tips so far! Thanks guys!
    P.S If you like rocky marks then you should check out the Llantwit Major - Barry coastline for some good fishing! I've seen anglers pull 2 - 3 Bass in within an hour of setting up on a good day!

    Its called Selsey, on south coast. No idea on postcode. Will be marked as Selsey Bill on a me.I was fishing to the west. Next area is called Bracklesham Bay.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 лет назад +3

    You are probably using bait, which attracts them by the scent. You should try artificial lures. That might help. But of course any fish you hook will sound like the dinner bell for a shark. That's what they do best. Eat other fish.

    Blimey! Give us a chance! We only got back from Devon last night !! I know here at Totally Awesome Fishing we're nuts on fishing but even WE have to get some sleep. We've got TEN new films backed up already.Guessing it will be in next 2/3 weeks. And that's only if we don't go fishing again(Which we will)Shark tides next week, and I hear another 500-pounder calling)

    Just work the hookpoint slowly through the edge on one side.Best to use a spare hook for this so you don't blunt the actual hookpoint used. Its a standard method of doing it for permit fishing with crabs by guides in America.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 лет назад +1

    I honestly don't know.I guess they must be around off Ireland,but I've read about them being there.Maybe somebody can answer that one ?

    European Bass. No others. I believe some Smallmouth Bass were once stocked in a lake in Dorset many years ago, but never heard if they survived. Our Bass only grow to 20lbs,not like the big Striped Bass on the East coast of the States.

  • @TAFishing

    I guess the main difference is that Tope grow larger(Up to 80lbs) and have teeth, the Smooth Hounds are smaller(up to 25lbs)and have no teeth.

    Not yet.But has been talk about it.I don't have a problem with it but don't want the money wasted on committee junkets or squandered on useless administration,or given to some guy as a "bonus" for doing little to improve our fishing,or kept in the Old Boys club,or used to stop us fishing from shore marks etc etc.Don't get me started on committees,(and "Expert advisors" sucking on the financial lollipop).

    Sure you can, theres a few ways to cook them to and they taste great I do not cook and eat them myself but ive tried some before years ago.
    Gut and fin it cut into 3 inch chunks Do not bother skinning. Wrap in tin foil with a bit of olive oil and oven bake for 1/2 hour.
    Once cooked the skin peals off. Great with baked spud and salads. It is also good cold. Like I said theres a few ways, you can add garlic and chilli etc or what ever man.

    Don't knock the tournament casting, it's a fantastic tool to have. My pals moaned they did not need it till one day the bass were out far and I had to cast out for them. On the flipside the last night I was out with another friend hunting for hounds and I was either casting over them or over the gully, my pal, nice 80 odd yards was picking them up each night at that distance

      The Smoothhound fishing is more of a summer thing,say May to September with crab as bait. Check with a local sea fishing club,they might give more information to save you wasting a journey.
