We do try and put the website in every video at the intro and we put the link in the video description of every video. We currently have T-shirts in stock and you get a free catfish DVD with your order of clothing!
No.If the tide is running you let a bit of line out so the current pulls the wires in the same direction as the tide is flowing. If you tighten up as soon as the lead hits bottom, water pressure on the line will drag the lead round/out of position. Its traditional to let a bit of line out to make a "belly". The bite is either straight over on the rod tip, or you get a "slack liner" as the lead is pulled out.
A peeler crab will always let out more scent than a hardback, but you need to fish hardbacks near where they live,ie. a bit of rough ground, or obviously where fish are finding them naturally. Even a breakwater will have a resident crab population around its base and the fish will be searching near there. I like to tip the hook with squid to give a bit of visual attraction.
You can use crabs part-frozen,live,dead,whatever. Hook size? Better with say a 4/0,but wide gape ? At least that's what we find. Watch out for the next couple of shore films up, some great tips on those.
Hermit crabs can be a great bait. Softer than a green hardback shore crab so you might want to bind them on with elasticated thread if punching out any distance. Great new shore/rock film going up next Tuesday,6th August 2013.Could be the best shore film I've done to date, and some unbelievable end photography shots. Watch out for it.Those Hermits wouldn't last long where I was fishing, that's for sure !!
That's a Conoflex(British made) Integra Uptide rod. Comes with two tips casting range of weights. Used for uptide fishing from a boat, but I quite like it as a bonus rod with a big bait from the shore. Check out next Tuesday's shore film(Up 7pm,6th August 2013) more casting rod action.
if I was new at this or as I am 44 years of angling and dangling .... I would still be here learning, and laughing ... thats one thing Graeme, you can make me smile when the world poo poo'd in my hat ......so I am still here, and always learning... this is the one art form that has no final benchmarks ... everyone can become a specialist in their own style with great tips like yours ... and expertise is so boring... expertise means I'd have nothing left to do ... 😊
You Brits are tops when it comes to bait fishing. Fish species are different in Texas but I always enjoy your shows and get a lot of good ideas. I especially enjoy your shows on "beach" fishing.
HEY THERE CONOR...THIS IS TOTALLY AWESOME FISHING SAYING....KEEP CASTING THOSE LURES AND WATCHING OUR FISHING FILMS........IT'S "THE WAY FORWARD"-Graeme & Mike.
Don't think I've ever seen them in the states, they use sand spikes a lot. You can make your own by cutting a slant on a piece of plumbing sink waste pipe.
Next Tuesday 6th August-7pm. Its going to give Shore anglers the boost they don't get on television. Forget anything you've seen on our shows to date, this one really is the business. There won't be a beach angler in the world that won't want to hit the beaches and rocks after he sees the angler I've filmed.Possibly the best angler/caster I've ever seen in my life. Don't miss it !! I'm hoping for a Oscar for the end scenes photography !!
Just started sea fishing and I'm still to catch my first fish. TAFishing has provided me with some awesome tips so far! Thanks guys! P.S If you like rocky marks then you should check out the Llantwit Major - Barry coastline for some good fishing! I've seen anglers pull 2 - 3 Bass in within an hour of setting up on a good day!
Its called Selsey, on south coast. No idea on postcode. Will be marked as Selsey Bill on a me.I was fishing to the west. Next area is called Bracklesham Bay.
You are probably using bait, which attracts them by the scent. You should try artificial lures. That might help. But of course any fish you hook will sound like the dinner bell for a shark. That's what they do best. Eat other fish.
Blimey! Give us a chance! We only got back from Devon last night !! I know here at Totally Awesome Fishing we're nuts on fishing but even WE have to get some sleep. We've got TEN new films backed up already.Guessing it will be in next 2/3 weeks. And that's only if we don't go fishing again(Which we will)Shark tides next week, and I hear another 500-pounder calling)
i know im asking randomly but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my password. I would love any help you can offer me
@Prince Madden thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Just work the hookpoint slowly through the edge on one side.Best to use a spare hook for this so you don't blunt the actual hookpoint used. Its a standard method of doing it for permit fishing with crabs by guides in America.
European Bass. No others. I believe some Smallmouth Bass were once stocked in a lake in Dorset many years ago, but never heard if they survived. Our Bass only grow to 20lbs,not like the big Striped Bass on the East coast of the States.
Another informative video TAFishing. Went out last week after watching this to Thorness on the solent side of the IOW, after collecting hardback crabs from the river Medina, specifically targeting Smoothound . Thanks to your information my son caught a 7lb hound. Many thanks!
I been fishing for nearly 40 years in North Wales and I'm a reasonably accomplished angler (certainly not the best). You have plenty to offer, even to gnarly old sods like myself! Thanks Graeme! Btw, I also use that Ultima F1 black line!
We call them gummy sharks (Mustelus antarcticus) here in Australia and they all have spots. They are fantastic eating and are the staple fish of our fish and chip shops. Nice work Graeme
Not yet.But has been talk about it.I don't have a problem with it but don't want the money wasted on committee junkets or squandered on useless administration,or given to some guy as a "bonus" for doing little to improve our fishing,or kept in the Old Boys club,or used to stop us fishing from shore marks etc etc.Don't get me started on committees,(and "Expert advisors" sucking on the financial lollipop).
I have no idea. Never heard of that one, but I used Mitchell reels when I was a youngster.Basic, but they did the job. Generally the older ones were very much trouble free. Don't know about new models though. Maybe someone else has experience of that model ?
Graeme, did you know....an expert is as follows. EX = something nolonger wanted or needed, surplus to requierments. SPERT = a series of annoying drips under pressure. ;-) love the show, keep at it.
You've got me there. I would guess its got something to do with the texture of the skin ? And why is the word "Hound "in there ? They don't bark or chase Foxes ? Curious. It will probably keep me awake at night now !!
quality video graeme thanks im just getting back into beach casting after last 12 years doing carp fishing so this be challenge we are off to warsash as they been sighted there so thanks for the video mate your a quality geezer mr pullen ;)
TAFishing i think it is that time of year again that you should do another session on the smoothhounds off the beach. be great to see a new video of this. all the best keep up the fab work always glued to your videos keep them coming
Sure you can, theres a few ways to cook them to and they taste great I do not cook and eat them myself but ive tried some before years ago. Gut and fin it cut into 3 inch chunks Do not bother skinning. Wrap in tin foil with a bit of olive oil and oven bake for 1/2 hour. Once cooked the skin peals off. Great with baked spud and salads. It is also good cold. Like I said theres a few ways, you can add garlic and chilli etc or what ever man.
Yet again another totally awesome fishing video. Love these vids always very informative and enjoyable, I live in eastbourne and lately the fishing has been very very poor, who knows what's happened to all the fish??? .do you have any stickers promoting your shows? If so please can I get my hands on one. Thank you
You guys do a super job on these videos.. I have fished of the shore a handful of times now and only managed a Mackerel .. But I am determined to get a smooth hound for sure - Thanks for the vids guys :o)
Don't knock the tournament casting, it's a fantastic tool to have. My pals moaned they did not need it till one day the bass were out far and I had to cast out for them. On the flipside the last night I was out with another friend hunting for hounds and I was either casting over them or over the gully, my pal, nice 80 odd yards was picking them up each night at that distance
Cracking video, thank you. I think I'll go out tomorrow and try. Just a quick couple of Q though, what size/type of hook is best, what time of day is best and were the crabs alive when you cast?
Hi Totally Awesome Fishing Crew, I am a freshwater angler so I don't know much about sea fishing, do you think you could do a tutorial on how to feather for mackerel as your the only AMAZING fishing show on youtube , thanks,
always enjoy your videos, always learn something new watching them . I like the beach pole holders you are using can they be purchased in the usa. thanks an keep making the videos.
Fantastic video. I got my first smoothhound last night, just a small pup 12 inches long. This has made me think about going for the bigger ones. What size hook was that. Looks at least 4/0.
Hey violentvomit123 i went to amroth just along from Saunders foot and caught 15 bass over 2 days using mackerel from wisemans bridge ind been looking into going for smooth hounds from the harbour in Saunders foot so thanks for the tip
We also sold a couple to some people in the caravan park as its rough at night so we couldent put them back also half way along theirs a wall if u cast off that its good for bass and maby mackerel
Hi graeme i watched your how to catch smooth hounds from the beach it is great by the way would you say a shout out to my son conor mccabethat is learning about all the lures you use to catch the he would be amazed with that thanks graeme
How do you get the hook through the shell of the hardbacks? I can get them by the bucketfulls (maybe 10lb in a day) but i dont use them as bait because every time i try to hook them in the shells etc it just wont go through. Cheers
Hey thanks i googled it and found your website! I have been watching your video for weeks and had no idea you had a website. Either you should promote you website more or i should pay more attention. Gotta get me one of those t shirts.
Does anyone know if there are better positions than others at Selsey Bill or is it just a case of giving it a go? It's only an hour from me and I think I would really like to give this a go. Any advice would be really appreciated.
The Smoothhound fishing is more of a summer thing, say May to September with crab as bait. Check with a local sea fishing club, they might give more information to save you wasting a journey.
Wait until next Tuesday-6th August 2013-7pm UK time. Possibly best shore film I've ever made.Brand new, done just a couple of weeks ago.
I'm 18 and I love to fish and I learn so much from your shows thanks!
We do try and put the website in every video at the intro and we put the link in the video description of every video. We currently have T-shirts in stock and you get a free catfish DVD with your order of clothing!

@Kason Marcelo happy to help :)

I honestly don't know.I guess they must be around off Ireland, but I've read about them being there.Maybe somebody can answer that one ?
European Bass. No others. I believe some Smallmouth Bass were once stocked in a lake in Dorset many years ago, but never heard if they survived. Our Bass only grow to 20lbs,not like the big Striped Bass on the East coast of the States.

Me.Generally like to let everything go. Or if we keep anything, often give it to someone who knows how to cook them properly. We just fish for sport.
That's a big fish.Well done.Hope you got a photo.Send it in to Mike.
On our site already done.DVD called "Giant Catfish of Caspe".cats to 180lbs if I recall.
I been fishing for nearly 40 years in North Wales and I'm a reasonably accomplished angler (certainly not the best). You have plenty to offer, even to gnarly old sods like myself! Thanks Graeme! Btw, I also use that Ultima F1 black line!
I guess the main difference is that Tope grow larger(Up to 80lbs) and have teeth, the Smooth Hounds are smaller(up to 25lbs)and have no teeth.
We call them gummy sharks (Mustelus antarcticus) here in Australia and they all have spots. They are fantastic eating and are the staple fish of our fish and chip shops. Nice work Graeme
Love your videos recently took up beach casting I've learned so much from your tutorials thank you and your team

clever, practical, yet simple tips to cast like a professional. Thank you.

thought you had to the tighten the line when the grip leads on the bottom to keep tension in the rod?
Love your show! I just have 1 question, have you ever casted and forgotten to flip your bail? I know i have done this a lot and it sucks!
Have you considered doing a Perch video using lures?
This guy is a national treasure. Now Mr Johnson has resigned Grahame should
apply asap!!
Oh yes,I really need to step into a snake pit....full of people you can trust to watch your back ??? I will stick to fishing on my own,its safer...

I wish there were more freshwater sharks around because I live in the middle of ny and I've only been to the ocean once
I remember the first time i started shore fishing and the first fish i ever caught was a smooth hound just 30-40 yards off the shore on some black lug
PERCH!!!!!
i had a smooth hound on king rag in Swansea docks it was my firs one i have ever caught
I caught a 10 lb smooth hound on king rag
Hey guys just wondring,
Whats the difference between tope and smooth hound ?
Lol so intense. Not so much needed to catch smoothhounds and squid works just as good
great video .... would i be able to catch smooth hounds on the dublin shoreline? of a beach? do you know the areas they go to
Yeah you can
Plenty of spots man , good few at greystones beach ATM
How do you get the hook through the shell of the hardbacks? I can get them by the bucketfulls (maybe 10lb in a day) but i dont use them as bait because every time i try to hook them in the shells etc it just wont go through.
Cheers
will frozen hermit crabs work?

Can you do a video on what gear you have got and where you get it from
Hi, what sized hook is that?
Does anyone know if there are better positions than others at Selsey Bill or is it just a case of giving it a go? It's only an hour from me and I think I would really like to give this a go. Any advice would be really appreciated.
