I am have recently decided to start sea fishing after being an angler for over 20 years. Your vids are seriously inspiring ! You also come across as a very pleasant and likeable chap.
Tomos Edwards - Hi Tomos, great to hear you’re getting into sea fishing. I cannot get enough of it!!! It’s amazing how much is transferable over from coarse so you’ll be bagging up in no time. All the best and give me a shout and let me know how you’re getting on. 😬👍🏻🎣🐟
Top angling mate. The hounds in my area have been very tricky this season but I keep watching this video that in turn keeps me trying. After another replay, off to the beach again I go. Very inspirational and informative! Keep the videos up 👍
John manser - Thankyou very much John. I’m really pleased you find the videos helpful and good viewing. If you think your friends with enjoy the videos, please pass them on. I’d really appreciate it. 😊👍🏻🎣🐟
James Mully - Thankyou very much James. There are some situations and some videos where I don’t think they are absolutely necessary, but fishing alone on the rocks, especially at night i feel it is an absolute necessity. It’s light enough and no real inconvenience to wear. 👍🏻🎣😊🐟 Tight lines mate.
Love the shore fishing vids, used to do all my sea fishing in north Devon, my dad lived in ilfracombe for 25 years or so, great fishing, coming across your channel has inspired me to go sea fishing again, live east Midlands now ,so east coast for now, but maybe a road trip to my old stomping grounds is in order I think, loving the videos, cheers Craig
Craig Twiner - I’m glad you’re enjoying the shore vids Craig and if they’ve got you wanting to take the rods out again then that’s fantastic!! There’s still plenty of good fishing to be found on the East coast. But I know what you mean, it’s a fantastic piece of coast down here. Tight lines mate. 👍🏻🎣😊🐟
Derek Jefferson - Thankyou Derek, like i said it was one of the best shore sessions I’ve had. Mental fishing!! Too much to even film properly. 🤷🏻♂️ I try and mix it up and have an even amount of shore/boat fishing. 👍🏻🎣🐟
Masterfisherman - Thankyou very much mate, haven’t had a comment from you in a while. Thought you might have left us, glad you enjoyed the video. Really pleased it turned out ok, was a bit mental trying to find it. 🤣👍🏻🎣🦈

Well done John. Could tell you were really excited on this session - understandably! Liked the way you baited those multiple ragworms by just threading the ends, then folding back before elasticating all up.
mr wildgoose - Thanks mate. Just making use of the older stuff, worked really well didn’t it. That method works well for rays 😉🎣 But Shhhh! 🤫 Don’t tell anyone 😛👍🏻🎣
Geoffrey Brown - Thankyou very much Geoffrey, I am glad you enjoyed the video and found it interesting. It was a mental session, incredible nights fishing. 👍🏻🎣🐟
Brilliant John again, I discovered your videos after the blue fin tuna and this is the best sea fishing channel there is, very informative. I've just returned from Huttoft on the Lincolnshire coast, sadly no blue fin but did manage a few whiting 😀. Keep up the good work
It's fantastic down your neck of the woods. We always head to pentewan sands near mevagissey 3 or 4 times a year and it's great for the kids and i can go fishing. It's a long treck from Grimsby but definitely worth it.Just need a house there now😒
Lee Fisher - Thanks Lee. Definitely one of my best sessions anyway. Still managed to pick up 3 dislikes inside the first 24 hours though? Yet no one brave enough to comment as to why they disliked it? 🤔 Tight lines bud. 😉👍🏻🎣
Garry Brook - Yes mate they are. Coincidence that 80% of my vids have exactly the same number of dislikes. And thanks to analytics I know they’re all from the same locations and same devices. 🤷🏻♂️
Another awesome video I have learnt so much from your videos, fantastic footage and the detailed explanations on rigs and baits etc is fantastic awesome content , Thanks mate 🎣
loris1423 - I’m really glad they’ve been helping you out mate. That’s the whole reason why I started doing them in the first place. 👍🏻🎣 Tight lines mate.🎣😬
When they are running, Smut fishing has to be my favourite shore fishing of the year. The screaming takes and the hard fight, awesome. Unfortunately here on the Isle of Wight most of the good marks have been messed up with drifting weed this year, so I have only seen a few. Great video, and a session to remember.
Arron Grist - They are great fun aren’t they. Scrap like crazy and the screaming takes are soo exciting! This definitely won’t be a session I forget for a while. Tight lines mate. 👍🏻🎣🦈😉
Debbie Tucker - I’ve always liked a chinu or something with a decent gape but short shank for a pennel. But circles are working their way in there. 😉👍🏻🎣
Must of watched this bout 20 times 😂😂 absolutely fantastic session. One of my favourite fish to catch off the shore like a train when they go another great video!! All the best bud
Brilliant session John and what some beautiful Smoot Hounds! Never caught one but lovely to see them! Great hooks! Great job getting your trace back from the greedy beggar!! Great video thanks mate. Really enjoyed watching this. Watched it twice haha. All the best, Graham
Fisken DK - Thanks DK, really pleased its good viewing. Mental session just too much going on to get it all on camera though sadly. 🤷🏻♂️ Tight lines from the Fishlocker team. 😬👍🏻🎣
Fantastic nights fishing John. I get all the excitement from a chair and you get the being there. Had to revisit your dropper rig video (which I thought was well presented) and never used it yet, but will do in the future. I used to catch a lot of flatfish back home, dab and flounder mainly and caught always on an Aberdeen long shank. The longest rag worm I ever had was 3 foot long and had a pair of jet black pincers which would of scared a shark lol. Can't get rag worm over here in Oz, but you should check the methods they use for getting beach worm, thinner than a lug worm too. I also used bronze hooks over steel because I felt they had a better point to the hook but went dull quicker. Still, if you're into sharpening hooks, they could last a tad longer. Now, we have laser cut hooks with great points. Peeler crabs were not that easy to find ( crabs can only mate when they are crackling with a skin growing beneath the shell, or soft) but were considered the best bait. then Rag worm, then Lug worm. squid etc etc and used normal thread to tie the softer baits. Now we have stretchy fishing thread which I just bought a batch of ( wish I had this in the 60's, would've saved some time taking the thread off the hook and line ). some fisherman over here have resorted to not using rod stands and have concreted tubes into the rocks where possible and stick their rods into those. ( Fish won't pull rods into the water ) and have placed them at different lengths on the rocks). Keep those videos coming and I might have something sensible to say on one of them lol. Tight lines mate.
Nomad - Thanks mate. As always, great comment. Aye, the long shank hooks do present worm baits well, I’ve had some brutish king rag before but never 3ft!! Peelers down here can be found through the year so we’re lucky. I have no real preference of hook except i won’t use stainless. 👍🏻🎣
@@TheFishLocker 3ft is very true. My wife caught the only flatty that day at Amble. I took a photo then but long since gone. I held it over a pencil and it was at least 2 ft to the ground draping another 1 ft over the pencil. I just asked my missus if she remembers the time and she does (only because she was the only one to catch a fish ). Anyways, it would be good to know if I had a record worm. lol. Funny thing was that, as you know, we buy worm by the bag and there was only one worm in that bag which usually had about 8 in it. Either that worm ate the others or the guys who filled the bags had a great sense of humour. haha. Sleep well mate.
Ryzie Mac - Thankyou very much, glad you enjoyed it. That’s a good shout about the elastic. This stuff I’ve got now is like spiders web so blooming fine you can never find the end. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ 🎣
Great video Mike really enjoyed it some very nice fish there in a good bit of luck I'm definitely going to have to get back fishing you've inspired me to get back out fishing if the weather's good next weekend I'm going to go smooth hound fishing hopefully catch myself a few down or Withernsea beach mate Tight Lines

- Thanks very much mate. It really was a blinder of a session I was completely fried by the end of it though!! Im glad you are enjoying our vids mate, we are going to be trying new types of content on our sister channel. The Fish Locker Workshop. ;)
Great video John. If your ever back down Portsmouth way there's a great smoothhound spot at a place near lee on solent. You catch 14lb smoothhound great night fishing .
@@TheFishLocker take care John, and you and your lovely family stay safe . And the spot is at Hillhead in lee on solent. Perhaps message me when your down this way and it would be a real pleasure if I could do a session with you on the smoothhounds.
Great that will live long in your memory that one ! Have done as you said and passed it on ,Night fishing definately helps us focus on the feel of bights ! Ive also put it on the end screen of my youtube site too. Nice one Again
Saltwater Angler - Thankyou so much mate. Yes I won’t be forgetting that session in a hurry. Mental fishing!! Would have been a lot easier to go down to 1 rod - but that’s not how I roll.haha. 🤣 Thanks for sharing it on. When you say end screen how do you mean? Send me a PM to fb and I’ll see about doing the same for yours?
Another cracking video John, some good Smoothies there. The one with the two traces reminded me of a trip to Oban a couple of years ago aboard Ronnie Campbell's boat after the Skate. A male, of if I remember right, around the 80 lbs mark was caught and tagged ( as are all the Skate on Ronnie boat ). The same fish, confirmed by the tag, was caught again within the hour. This also goes to show, that if the fish are handled correctly, then they suffer no harm, and being hooked doesn't bother them. Looking forward to your next video 🎣🎣👍👍
Anthony Harrison - Thanks Anthony. 👍🏻 I’ve fished up North a couple of times with various guys and had a few skate recaptures. We also have an eel that lives on a reef down here that is caught several times a year. If handled properly these fish are very healthy and go back fighting fit. 👍🏻🎣🐟
Great catch! I did that once with a large Salmon! I lost a huge fish on the Salmon fly rod I was fishing a shrimp fly on 12lb leader lost it after 20 mins I was gutted, next day I was Sea Trout fishing with the smaller 9ft rod and 6lb leader and a little Black Pennal fly, I only went and landed a 24 and a half pound Salmon with my fly and leader in it from day before! I was gobsmacked
Shug McGurran - Aww mate those are the stories I love to hear!! I’ve done it a couple of times at sea. One time wreck fishing for conger. Got snapped off only for the bloke on the opposite side to hook up and land an eel with my trace in it.lol.
Richard Turner - Thankyou Richard it really was a wicked session!! Sadly I had to forgo the video for a lot of it but I’m glad I at least got some of it on camera. 👍🏻🎣
@@TheFishLocker yes indeed, we have the grey, brown and sicklefin smoothhounds here. the grey one is the most common by far here in southern CA where I live though (and the least regarded in the pan). we have so many large ray species it's ridiculous, and the boys and I hooked two large soupfin/tope sharks the night before last fishing calico bass in just a few feet of water off the beach, one well over five foot, maybe six or more, the second, I just yanked him off a few seconds into a run, lol..
Some great fish there mate, well done. We fish for these guys out here in Victoria, (Australia), where they are called Gummy Sharks, and and are the mainstay of the fish and chip shop industry. I normally use either a single 8/0 gama occy circle, or a or twin 4/0's, both on 60lb mono hook length, both these rigs work well. Keep it up mate, love the channel...
Another great informative video, but that was some session we have to really work hard in South Wales for fish in those numbers but more often than not it's only 1 or 2, 3 if your lucky
Mike Dixon - Thanks Mike glad you enjoyed the video. That’s usually the type of session we get down here. 1’s and 2’s so this session really was something special for me. 👍🏻🎣🐟
A different species in the same genus is one of the most popular saltwater sportfishing targets here in Southern Australia. It grows to 25 kg and is both magnificent sport and magnificent eating. They're the most prized target off beaches here and very popular in both the commercial and charter realms too, people will pay up to the equivalent of about 100 pounds a person to target them from charter boats. We dream of sessions like yours, great video!
What a fantastic session John, and another great informative video! Love your shore vids. Learning so much, will be putting some of it into practice in a few weeks, back down to the Llyn peninsula for a couple of weeks to try again hopefully catch the big one! Thanks again, tight lines and stay safe 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣🎣
Looks like Ilfracombe , great fishing again ,really enjoy your videos. Regards from your old pal Gummy . PS ,me gums have been buggered for a fortnight!.
@@TheFishLocker They are red raw from trying to tie my own rigs as your rig lessons instructed . They turned out great ,but I'll have to devise some way of holding the ri g line or get some false teeth fitted mate .
Another cracking vid John. Why someone has disliked no idea mate you keep making em and we will keep watching em. Got my biggest smoothhound 3 yrs ago.on a side winder lure fishing for Pollock 19lb 4 oz didn't have a clue what if was till got to boat what a scrap . Any plans for a wrecking vid ?. At your old spot again September got 2 days booked for late summer comp.🦈🎣🎏🐟
Philip Shaw - Thanks Phil, I have a few dislikes on every vid that show up dead early for no reason. I personally think it’s another channel. As you can track so much from the analytics I know it’s likely to be the same person every time. 🤷🏻♂️ Couple of boat vids in editing. I might be able to manage a wrecking video over the next week. 😉👍🏻🎣
Got to say I'm not a fan of sand eel as bait at all, people rave about it but I've not had much success. Last year my mate was using peeler and I was next to him using squid. We were hitting smoothies all night but he was getting hooked up within 5 minutes of casting (even less) where as I found I would have to wait 10-15 minutes, they really do home in on the peelers.
john wrasse - I like to use them where possible. It all depends on the way the fish take a bait as to how effective they are. Still not managed to get them to work for congers. 🤷🏻♂️
Great smoothhounds enjoyed watching that. Do think you choice of hook link is a bit light for smoothies tho a sliding penel and floro are a bad combination .try a few tests in your shed putting all the strain on the penel hook as it does not take much to break it after a few fish
Nick Epton - Thanks Nick. I do test my rigs out quite a lot in the workshop and have not had any real trouble with them parting from the pennel. The trouble I was having on the day was trying to land them into pools on the wave and the hooklength rasping the rocks. I will be going heavier next time but I had found heavier hooklengths don’t work as well with the pulley dropper rig. So it’s a bit of 6 and 2 3’s. 🤷🏻♂️
The Dropper rig is the one for hounds it is always what i use it works everytime However if i come across my rigs becoming beaten up like fryed or get snagged a couple of times i immediately switch to standard Normal pulley pennel rigs but i have been losing the pennel hook lately and find it so muich easier to unhook the fish on both rigs. and yes by far crab is the best bait for hounds plus with peeler you might get a nice something else as a bonus fish :)
Fisherman and Biker - That’s it mate. Great rig and really simple. Interchangeable hooklengths allows you to prebait half a dozen. Peeler crab is just gold!! Not much will turn down a nice juicey peeler!! 👍🏻🎣😉🦈🐟
What an amazing session John, reckon you must have been knackered after that !! Not tried the sausage crab/worm bait, think I'll need to give it a try next time.
kevin buckler - Thanks Kev, aye mate I was completely fried by the end of it. I was just using up old stinky ragworm but I’ve had a lot of good fish doing that. Bass, hounds, rays and eels. Ragworm isn’t much good once it’s dead but at least that way you can make good use of it. 😉👍🏻🎣
gary CURD - Thanks Gary, Yes mate by the end of it I was completely fried!! Could you not tell? Haha. Proper mental session. Loved every minute of it. 😊👍🏻🎣🐟🦈
Superb video. We've been catching decent smooth hounds up in Morecambe Bay these last couple of months. I agree: fantastic fish in every respect. Had a cracking 12lb starry smooth-hound on lug/squid a couple of weeks ago, so doesn't always have to be peeler up here, thought it's still top bait for many. I like your pulley pennel dropper rig - will be making up some of those before next session. I fish alone at night off rocks too, so ought to get myself a life jacket - yours looks nice and lightweight and not too obtrusive - what make is it? Once again, top job on the video. I can't imagine how you keep up with it on a hectic session like this but it's hugely appreciated.
Steve Ashton - Thankyou. It’s often not the easiest to film and fish but I do my best. The lifejacket is a manual KRU I will be putting a link on the Fishlocker FB page as soon as I have time. Checkout the “tackle purchases” folder. 😉👍🏻🎣
darren paterson - Thanks Darren, I’m sure there are some spots where you’ll be able to catch them. Maybe not in the numbers which we get them down south, but I’m sure they’ll be there somewhere. Tight lines mate. 👍🏻🎣🦈
Great fishing really enjoying watching your videos I'm coming down from Southampton to Hayle soon at the end of April where and what's best time for fishing around there thanks
- It depends purely on the conditions Richard, if the weathers good, anywhere. If the weather has been consistently bad then the fishing in April can be pitiful. Best give us a PM the week before you come down and I can give you some up to date info.
Great video as always John - Question - I follow Trojs Fishing and he has amazing success using cable sheathing as mackerel feathers that catch everything in Guernsey and I wondered if you did the same in your area whether you would have the same success? They look just like a large string of large sandeels and the Pollack love them? Just a thought.
Blaser R8 - Now then mate, I also follow Troy’s channel he does fantastic small boat vids. And yes the homemade lures he uses work incredibly well. I used to use something. Similar years back. Another channel - Autistic angler; put a vid up making some similar. I see no reason why they wouldn’t work here, I’ll knock some up and give it a bash. 👍🏻🎣🐟
Fantastic video as all your video are couple of thoughts what about tope from shore?, also have u considered a camera set up that let's us experience the fight like say a body cam and the digitally splice the footage.
I have used different cameras in other videos but the issue here is lighting. I would need a separated lighting unit on my chesty as well and it was just too much to do whilst out solo. As for the Tope. The only Tope mark we have local to me is very recognisable and I wouldn't want to publicise it. 🤷🏻♂️
@@TheFishLocker i fully understand - i am new to shore fishing but have had large sharks and such like form boats , so your videos have been a very needed lesson for me in how to get shore fishing right, i also love you boat videos.
Glad to hear they have no teeth, as Google says otherwise. I have just converted from Fresh Water Fishing to Beach Fishing. Not caught a Smooth Hound yet, just Skate, Plaice and Bass, but looking forward to it! Cheers
Another great video. Were all of those smooth hounds female? The ones you showed were. Maybe they are coming in to drop their pups? They are really hungry after doing that. Enjoy the shore fishing shows!
Z Worm - Thankyou very much. I think most of them were. Possibly 1 or two were Male - if I remember right. They really were hard on the feed!! Glad you’re enjoying the vids, tight lines. 😊👍🏻🎣🦈💙
Mark Simpson - Thankyou Mark, the Tope are running in areas now. They’re just difficult to track down and folks are incredibly secretive about their marks. So I’d feel some serious heat for filming them.
Lovely to see spool spinning like that! Where would I need to go to get similar fishing from Rocks like you doing, I'm new in UK have never been down to the coast I live in Dunstable, where would be closest to me? Thanks
Chris Price - Thankyou very much mate. Sorry but doing all the filming myself it’s difficult to get it all in frame. You could always watch it on a big screen? 😛👍🏻🎣🐟
Westward ho , park as close to seafield holiday park and it’s on the rocks adjacent. Probably one of the best marks around. Massive fan of this channel but I’m sure sharing the locations won’t kill anyone.
do you normally have your drag loose when shore fishing or set your clutch tight? Or is it dependant on what you are fishing for? Last thing you want is to lose a rod and reel.
Hey man this video is amazing and lots of information as I am a beginner in fishing keep up the good work mate and what hooks did you use as I would love to catch a smooth hound and would it be the same to gut and skin the smooth hound as a dogfish mate
Hi pal,I’ve had hundreds of hounds over the years & never thought of eating them,I’ve also been on boats out of Grimsby & guys have preferred them over cod, have you ever tried them? I know they are a big thing in Australia but unsure over here, cheers
Declan o hagan - Thanks Declan. The majority of my marks I have either found myself or with friends. The others I either glean from forums or other Angling friends. I have a few great friends and great anglers and we share marks and ideas a lot and help each other out. If a mate wants help on how to anchor his boat to catch a ling I’ll help him out just like he might share info on a good ray mark. 👍🏻🎣😉
Dear friend, I hope that I did not detect you in some sort of pain. You had a marvelous session there. How often do you ever get your Riggs back from the fish that steals them? All the best to you.
Christina Moneyhan - No pain just a little fried from a hectic fishing session. I was very happy to recatch the fish with the lost trace in its mouth as I do hate to think of a fish swimming around with hooks inside it. I have had a few recaptures of fish with lost gear in them but usually dogfish and eels. All much happier once I have removed them. 👍🏻😊🎣🐟
Mate, you set such a great example of fishing conservation and care for your surroundings! I cant get enough!

Lee Fisher - Thanks Lee. Definitely one of my best sessions anyway. Still managed to pick up 3 dislikes inside the first 24 hours though? Yet no one brave enough to comment as to why they disliked it? 🤔 Tight lines bud. 😉👍🏻🎣
@@TheFishLocker some people are bloody pathetic john
Garry Brook - Yes mate they are. Coincidence that 80% of my vids have exactly the same number of dislikes. And thanks to analytics I know they’re all from the same locations and same devices. 🤷🏻♂️
Excellent film 🎥 again John, very enjoyable to watch great info on bait and rigs, love it 👍👍🎣🎣🎣👍

Spectacular John! Cant wait to see more.

Your enthusiasm is contagious mate, keep it up and the videos are both informative and entertaining 👌
john Rogers - I’m glad you think so John, thank you very much. I hope the info was useful to you, tight lines. 😉👍🏻🎣🦈
Great session & video John! Well done on that PB!
Trampster - Thanks mate. Aye well happy with the new shore caught PB!! Cracking fish aswel. Really well proportioned. Tight lines bud. 😉👍🏻🎣🐟
Works every time the pennel.Been using it for about 6/7 years now for bigger species fish.We use the mustad 5/0 circle hook.
- Thanks Jamie, this was a blinder of a session and one that I am so glad I get to share with you all. Wicked fun aren't they. :D
Brilliant session John and what some beautiful Smoot Hounds! Never caught one but lovely to see them! Great hooks!
Great job getting your trace back from the greedy beggar!! Great video thanks mate. Really enjoyed watching this. Watched it twice haha. All the best, Graham
Graham Allen - So Good you watched it twice? Well I’ll take that as a fantastic compliment mate!! 👍🏻👍🏻😊😊💙🎣

Great video! We really enjoyed watching. All the best from DK.
Fisken DK - Thanks DK, really pleased its good viewing. Mental session just too much going on to get it all on camera though sadly. 🤷🏻♂️ Tight lines from the Fishlocker team. 😬👍🏻🎣
What a session john well fished
Martin Roberts - Thanks Martin. Was well and truly tuckered our by the end of it mind.haha.
Awesome fishing. I find rubbing ya bait elastic on ya trousers the best to unlosen it when ya can’t find the end.
Ryzie Mac - Thankyou very much, glad you enjoyed it. That’s a good shout about the elastic. This stuff I’ve got now is like spiders web so blooming fine you can never find the end. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ 🎣

Unbelievable fishing, well done great video 👍
Richard Turner - Thankyou Richard it really was a wicked session!! Sadly I had to forgo the video for a lot of it but I’m glad I at least got some of it on camera. 👍🏻🎣
some beautiful fish there as always.. awesome fishing
DumbestFisherman TV - Thanks lad. Do you get them over your way?
@@TheFishLocker yes indeed, we have the grey, brown and sicklefin smoothhounds here. the grey one is the most common by far here in southern CA where I live though (and the least regarded in the pan). we have so many large ray species it's ridiculous, and the boys and I hooked two large soupfin/tope sharks the night before last fishing calico bass in just a few feet of water off the beach, one well over five foot, maybe six or more, the second, I just yanked him off a few seconds into a run, lol..
DumbestFisherman TV - Sounds like awesome fun. I’m hoping to hit the Tope in the next few days. 🤞🏻👍🏻🎣😉

Here they only ever reach 10kg max. But they offer wonderful sport don't they. 😊

Great fishing session John and some fantastic fish well done, will be trying your rig out tomorrow thanks, let's hope I have the same luck heh

adolfo francisco - I’ve had them before during a trip to the canaries. Great fun. 👍🏻🎣
Greater amberjack possible from the shore in some piers and marlins from boat
Got to say I'm not a fan of sand eel as bait at all, people rave about it but I've not had much success. Last year my mate was using peeler and I was next to him using squid. We were hitting smoothies all night but he was getting hooked up within 5 minutes of casting (even less) where as I found I would have to wait 10-15 minutes, they really do home in on the peelers.
Nikko Bee - I’ve had some great ray fishing on sandeel. And bass. But yes, peelers are the ultimate bait for smoothies. 👍🏻🎣🐟
Class night fishing
graham Moore - Sure was Graham. All the best. 👍🏻🎣🐟
I use a single circle whenever possible, hook up is in corner of mouth every time.
Enjoyed video .
john wrasse - I like to use them where possible. It all depends on the way the fish take a bait as to how effective they are. Still not managed to get them to work for congers. 🤷🏻♂️
@@TheFishLocker yea i was refering to hounds ,seems its preferable to be a fish thats gonna pick up and run
john wrasse - Absolutely. 👍🏻🎣
Very enjoyable video 👍
Paul Mangan - Thanks bud 👍🏻🎣
Thank you for great tips, I'm a bit of a novice angler. Off ne t month to try and catch smoothies.
@@TheFishLocker I've found wrasse really love them whenthey're going off too .
fantastic I bet you were knackered cheers mate
gary CURD - Thanks Gary, Yes mate by the end of it I was completely fried!!

great video john is that down near the pier house at westward ho....
- It might be ;)
Fantastic video as all your video are couple of thoughts what about tope from shore?, also have u considered a camera set up that let's us experience the fight like say a body cam and the digitally splice the footage.
Rag worm sausage, never heard that term 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻, how is that made, do I add something to bind them together? Lb from KY
- I show it in the video. ;) When i show baiting up I show how to make and bind the ragworm bait.
Glad to hear they have no teeth, as Google says otherwise. I have just converted from Fresh Water Fishing to Beach Fishing. Not caught a Smooth Hound yet, just Skate, Plaice and Bass, but looking forward to it! Cheers

phil brooke - Do you mean the initial bite or during the fight? 🎣🐟
Another great video. Were all of those smooth hounds female? The ones you showed were. Maybe they are coming in to drop their pups? They are really hungry after doing that. Enjoy the shore fishing shows!

Well done john when do the tope come in
Mark Simpson - Thankyou Mark, the Tope are running in areas now.
Thanks
- Anywhere on the south coast of the UK is fishing well for smoothounds right now. ;)
Great video, as always, any chance you can do a video on baiting hooks with a good zoom please?
Chris Price - Thankyou very much mate. Sorry but doing all the filming myself it’s difficult to get it all in frame. You could always watch it on a big screen? 😛👍🏻🎣🐟
Awesome 🤩👍🏻👍🏻😂👍🏻
Hi John, new subscriber, looked at a few of your vids now all got great informative content.

Now then Terry, welcome to our channel. A lot of the rig videos are on the Fishlocker workshop channel. 👍🏻🎣
Westward ho , park as close to seafield holiday park and it’s on the rocks adjacent. Probably one of the best marks around. Massive fan of this channel but I’m sure sharing the locations won’t kill anyone.
- Sharing the locations of rock marks that can be dangerous may very well kill someone - so you can understand another reason why I don't do it.
do you normally have your drag loose when shore fishing or set your clutch tight? Or is it dependant on what you are fishing for? Last thing you want is to lose a rod and reel.
- Exactly. Depending on what I am fishing for a fish a loose drag. As you say you do not want to lose a rod and reel.

- I have never tried on personally that I know of. I have certainly never cooked one myself nor do I intend to. For me its just a great sport fish. :)
Great video that was a amazing session john
How do u go about finding good marks to fish from
Declan o hagan - Thanks Declan.
