I can wheelie like 400 ft. So fun. Great tutorial. I want to emphasize how important getting comfortable with bailing off the back is. Make sure your rear shock isn’t all the way open (soft). Harder is better for that. I brake with two fingers. Don’t waste all your energy or focus on pulling up on bars. Lean back and push the pedals hard and not in the lowest (easiest) gear... I go up to 3-6 . Cheers!
I've been wheelieing for 15 years and have done my homework. All i can say is: listen to SickBiker because this is the best summarisation i've found so far!!
@5:38 "...and not do damage to first off your bike, and secondly yourself" - True cyclist mentality. Bike's safety comes first....body damage is less important.
It's impossible to learn wheelie just in 7 days. I would say that mastery will take at least one year of regular training, 50 minutes a day. I'm now after one month of this routine and I barely can drive 40 meters without loosing balance. Also later you need to learn how to deal with turns, bumps, curvature of the ground, properly pop if you want to do it in higher speed, etc. Because of videos like this I felt really demotivated, because I initially expected that I will learn it in just one week. So, instead of making these kind of impossible expectations, just remember that slow and steady wins the race. Take your time and do it regularly and you will do it just fine.
I agree. These videos all have clickbait titles and give people the wrong idea of how much effort one needs to put in to be able to learn wheelie. Knowing the right techniques is just a tiny part of the whole process.
I can wheelie for maybe 25'. I started doing this a little bit in my mid 30's and then tried it again in my early 40's. I am now 52 and this video has really pumped me up. I wanna wheelie for 100' or more at will and I am gonna start practicing.
I decided to learn to wheelie a week ago, in 3 days of practice the progress is very fast, I did about 60 min per day, changed my clipless to flats, the main thing for me is to look ahead and not on the front wheel
Awesome video! A few more tips to get more stabile and longer wheelies: Your saddle hight should be at least the half of your normal saddle hight. With lowering your saddle it is much easier to learn using the brake properly, and balancing with knees will become much easier. And I think it looks natural and cooler. Of course it will be harder to get to the wheelie position. Try start the wheelie standing on the bike and when you start it, sit down immediately. It also helps you start a straight wheelie. If you are comfortable doing wheelies, try starting it with more speed about 15-20 km/h. With more speed you won't fall to side, and the distance will also increase. What kind of bike should you buy? Buy a bike with hydraulic disc brakes, it is indispensable. Getting to wheelie position with a bike with shorter chainstay is easier. It is true, but if you are already in wheelie position, a bike with longer chainstay, for example a 29er bike, will be much more controllable (at least for me). Best wheelie advice: don't look at your front wheel, look where you going. Greetings from Hungary!
Got it perfectly after 8 months now I can do all my commute on wheelie even turns it's really enjoyable, just need to learn the pogo stick for the red light
The thing that made me control my wheelie is I had a flat bar so I wasn't really on my balance point so I was obliged to pedal faster and faster and the wheel come back down and a day I used a bar with a little bit of rise and it push me on my balance point and after that my wheelie where good !
This was by far the best MTB tutorial I’ve seen so far! It covered the really important tips that have been left out in literally every other wheelie tutorial. Keep up the awesome vids!🤟🤟
If you ride a fairly modern full suspension bike, remember to lock your shock. That simple thing should and will make it much easier to wheelie successfully.
Hands down the best wheelie guide I've seen. Never heard anyone else discussing how you should steer with your ass but it makes sense and the video clearly shows it. Explained very well.
thats pretty damn good, i've been at it just about going on a month at about 45 minuets each time on average and i may go 40 to 50 feet every one in a while, if im lucky, i dont expect to do 300 meters for like a month from now, and thats if i stick with it.
@@SUPERFUDSTER well it turns out I wasn't as good as I thought :/ my bike broke so I was using my fathers's fatbike, but the fat bike's wheels were basically cheating with their rotational stabilization. when I went back to my normal bike I sucked. Oof
Its not a joke last night i watched this and today I tried to follow his steps on my fat bike I can wheelie 5 metre! The best wheelie tutorial ever!!!!
It's taken around 3 weeks, but I'm finally starting to see some significant improvement. My "ah-ha" moment was about a week ago when I realized I was trying to bring the front end too high and in too low of a gear to sustain riding forward. Now I'm starting to hold a wheelie for several hundred feet, down little slopes or with speed bumps. A few thingsI have with this instruction is that the flat pedals do not help one bit. I'm used to clipless, race DH and enduro with clipless, do big jumps with clipless, so it feels natural to me. I had a few days when I tried to do this on flats and it made no difference, it definitely didn't "help". My assumption is that's what the rider in the video is more comfortable with, but that's not a valid reason for everyone to do it. The other is starting out in a high (hard) enough gear, for about 2 weeks straight I was trying to bring the front end up too far, in too low of a gear. I was behind the actual balance point when I was trying to do this, but so much emphasis was made on "popping" the bike up, that I was doing it like this, rather than lower and easing into the balance point.
Very good, TY. I had the most trouble with steering. Steering is much easier to learn if the wheelie is started straight (vertical). My problem I finally realized, was that my dominant arm was throwing off the initial pull. Just forcing awareness of this was enough to cure it. Still a baby wheelier, but better to baby wheelie than to never have wheelied at all, eh?
I spend 3 hour's a day😬 very useful video and defiantly found improvement after watching. I got 5 meters but after watching this I finally got 8 meters on first day. Thank you!
Really Nice explanations! I'm 64 and want to make wheelie...My bike is Trek Roscoe 7. It maybe easier IF I move my seat in possible rear position , looks like the gravity moves more rear and helping Lifting front wheel...?? My progress coming slow ; but in couple first exercises (about 40 min each) I couldn't at all pull and turn pedals in SAME time, so now I can do this and lift front wheel about 20 inch from ground level...but when I trying continue turn pedals with another leg, then my front wheel drops down and my balance off. Will update my progress; if in the end will be really wheelie then will make the short movie in RUclips. Couldn't find Any Guy over 60 who can doing this..........in RUclips at least. Thank you.
a good exercise for wheelie is to lean against a wall with rear brake on and the chain remove from the front hub and keep pedaling, this is good for longitudinal balance throwing your knees to the left or right is also good for lateral balance
you don't learn in 7 days, but in 2-3 months 10-20 minutes a day you have a chance, it`s all about muscle memory, imagine you are a newborn learning to walk
@@ssangry99 Yeah it really isn't in 7 days. It is really counter intuitive to lean backwards instead of pulling with your arms. I can't pop the wheelie at the moment and I have been trying from about 4-5 days. The best I can do is a small pop on good attempts.
I never thought about regression.. I think thats what os really happening to me.. Also have tried for long periods of time... I do loose interest after 30min... I'll keep practicing and hopefully I can learn... thanks for your video

although i haven't learnt how to wheelie one thing i will say when it comes to getting to tired or trying to practice for more than an hour. i don't know if this works for wheelies but the way i learnt how to cycle with no hands was simply practising on the way to school. i think trying to practice just simply on the way to somewhere means you wont be as tired since it doesn't matter as much if you hold it for a long time. you will actually be thinking about getting to your destination. yes it takes more time but it could be argued that doing it this way would be easier. of course i don't know yet because i haven't learnt fully how to wheelie but from doing it this way the past week i have been able to hold about 2m. not as fast as the way of learning in the video but certainly something to consider if you don't mind it taking longer.
I got into trouble in work ... my boss passed and though he was saying Willy ... I work in Glasgow. “ why are you learning willy day one, I think that should be done outside of the work place”, we both rewatched and he’s bought himself a Whyte 905 to come play out at the weekends lol
The rest days that you recommend really affect the brain. You build the neural connections for something you're trying to learn when you rest, especially when you sleep.
Excellent video, thanks. I have trouble with this. I liked another video that would add something to your pre-training. You mentioned pushing the bike forward and dropping off the rear, to give confidence and feeling of what it is like to "fall off the back" and that it's ok. The other person mentioned you over press your rear brake so that in addition it tells you when you hit the brake too hard what happens, or if you want to FALL FWD deliberately, hit the brake. So do this before starting, to get the feel of the impact of the rear brake. Normally for safe riding you would never do this in say commuting, it is very counter instinctive. The thing I had no idea was the steering the bike with your bum that you mentioned. The concept hit me big time when I was commuting home yesterday (15 miles) when i was riding (not fast) down a calm street with no hands. Having lots of riding experience just riding, on a well balanced bike. And i noticed, oh yeah, I already know how to do this, i steer with my bum all the time. So when i go out to start my week of wheelie-ing in an hour or so, I will be thinking of no hand steering, but doing it the way you were doing it. I guess i have to add knees to equation. I will be using a really heavy 30 lb hardtail (front suspension). Not sure i can get the thing up, i have been having real trouble with that. Oh the other difference was you were going uphill so that you had constant force to keep you pedalling and this other guy did the opposite, he went downhill, so he Wasn't pedalling, and that allowed him to concentrate on using the pedals for balance. For him he didn't mention knees, he mentioned your feet. I expect it's all of it, because to balance with your knees, you are using the pedals. For people that can do this, this paragraph is probably silly, but for me i am over analyzing and excited to get into the sun and try it. The good thing about today is i can't keep the wheel up much, and today I am confident I will improve because the bar is currently so low for me :-)))))) Thanks!
Ok I got 3 cranks out of it a few times (1.5 rotations), and one time a 4. That was the longest ever. The front end is very heavy on my bike. I really do not like falling backwards off the bike. And i also got a pedal strike on my knee, light compared to a trail fall. I think the rear brake for falling backwards meant to Prevent falling backwards, the rear brake will bring your front down? This is going to take alot more practice. A third person mentioned you move your hips back and pull the bars straight back and not the more natural lift up, which i have decades of bad training on that. I also see some people really bringing their hips down and behind the seat and letting the seat come towards you. My first practice i forgot to drop the seat and that was obvious so i learned that. I replaced my seat clamp with the old QR one to make it easy. I am now sweating and tired lol.
Last night i got 8 pedals in, about 25'. Slightly downhill, 2nd gear. Very dark, kept my head up. Turning around and going uphill did not work as well. Seat was slightly lowered. :0 @@AliYazbeck1
@Luca Santoro xlnt, i will try that. I kept track, i was in the 2nd gear and middle chain ring. Yeah i think i start to spin way too fast to keep the speed then my front wheel starts to veer one way and i overcompensate and i'm down. I have a lighter bike coming so it will be interesting to see if that handles better. i am putting a fork on my road bike so i want to try it on that bike too lol. I didn't try it commuting home because i had too much weight on the back and figured i would break something like my phone.
The only thing that I struggle with, is to keep my balance and not fall left or right, I try to turn my front wheel to keep balance, also I am still trying to find the perfect gear to whillie
to get to the point of holding a wheelie up for long distances it takes several months of practice everyday. After a year of steady practice you will be good if you had prior bike skills
Not necessarily. I have been practicing for several years and still can't get the wheel more than about 10" off the ground, and of course it drops back down in half a second.
I'm 50yrs old and after day 3 I'm still absolutely crap. Spend around 45min to an hour practicing but won't start day 4 till end of next week coz of work. Will upload the progress videos when our internet upgrades but I have no editing software so there in 15 min segments. 3 15 min vids of me doing bad wheelies lol
Fantastic video. The information is excellent and the quality of the video itself is top knotch. Wondering what type of camera this was shot with. Looks fabulous! 4K? Not sure...
Same here. Snowboarder, Windsurfer, Hang Glider, Slack Liner, etc.......I am a sporty person, but learning a consistent Wheelie in seven days is "bs". So relax and keep practising.
Just getting into MTB and I have no problem pulling the front wheel up but I can only get about 3 cranks of the pedal before I come down. I know im not fully committing. But Every time I do feel like I commit I usually just loop out.
The time for learning a wheelie is different for many. It took me almost 2 months while it took my friend 1 week. You just need to get rid of the fear of falling over.
ive been at it like 3 weeks, i keep leaning to one side or the other, its very frustrating, i feel i totally would have so much more progress with getting to the balance point, when i dont lean i can easily get 6 slow full pedals in.
It is sooo much fun :)

i am an old guy and i get so much joy out of the wheelies, now i can ride them for a long time..its like theraputic...like meditation. ...meditation mixed with joy and relaxation.
I LOVE IT.
TIPS...
you need to wheelie a lot...and keep the tyres hard, not rock hard but proper firm...one day i could nt wheelie any more and foudn it was my tyres were too soft causing bounce.
when you wheelie a lot you are basically going over the same recoveries, the same wheel dropping, the same flipping out scenarios time and time again until recovering from virtually anything becomes MUSCLE MEMORY...and also the braking changes to special types of touching of the brake...it happens automatic...sometimes your muscle memory presses quite hard, other times it is gentle and many touches ..other thimes you hold on a bit...
all this specialised feathering of the brake has to happen automatically...and you only get that from lots of practice and cementing all these different scenarious into your muscle memory..not each scenario jsut onece...each scenario needs to be attmpted recovery at least 100 times...
so this is how much practice you need.
always try and improve...
like i was going to side at first after about 100 metres..always went to the side...but now that doesnt happen as much because i recover it. automatically...
also practice one hand stuff...as it really brings in that balance point..practice for a split second then one second etc....and when you wheelie 2 handed a couple days later you will have more control over the balance point and a deeper feeling about it.
now my wheelies are really slow...i can almost come to a dead stop and still carry on.
the bike used to run away from me, but now my issue is that i am going to slow a lot of the time ..i mean slower than walking pace .
some people will resent you for wheelieng especially at my age.
kids will love it .
others think you are just a big head...but the truth is it brings great joy and fantastic control over your bike for any scenario.
try and get the wheelie smooth....ideally after some months practice you dont want to have your front wheel bobbing up and down as you wheelie...as your brake control should be outstanding....so it just keeps the wheel pretty level..
if you are bobbing up and down all the time work on your foot pressure on the pedals and you are hitting the brake too hard and bringing the wheel down too much...
always work on these fine adjustments...and remember the perfect wheelie is actually very slow ...no brake.... smooth....and straight...after this you can add tricks and stuff which dont really appeal to me....but if you are tiring out and stuff...you are probably going to fast, wasting a lot of energy because you are recovering all the time and cant keep the wheel straight.....are having bursts of strenght because you are not smooth...and the front end is bobbing up and down forcing you to work to maintain the wheeelie
and last but not liest ...if you really want to cover large distances...after being able to do a few hundred metres...you need to relax and forget about your goal....
i get a lot further just doing a nice relazed wheelie with no real goal in mind..than i do when i say ..right once i hit that building thats 1 kilometer....if i think like that, i drop before i get to the building..hwereas if i jsut relax and no pressure ..i end up going past the building.
Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Legend. I now have a new goal. Thanks mate.

Excellent video. It tells you everything you need to know about wheelies except actually performing the
wheelies.
I decided to learn to wheelie a week ago, in 3 days of practice the progress is very fast, I did about 60 min per day, changed my clipless to flats, the main thing for me is to look ahead and not on the front wheel
Awesome video!
A few more tips to get more stabile and longer wheelies:
Your saddle hight should be at least the half of your normal saddle hight.
Christophe MTB I’m on an hybrid but I ride everyday in commute. Hopefully within 8 months I will be good.
The thing that made me control my wheelie is I had a flat bar so I wasn't really on my balance point so I was obliged to pedal faster and faster and the wheel come back down and a day I used a bar with a little bit of rise and it push me on my balance point and after that my wheelie where good !
This is the best tutorial on RUclips for wheelie.i started making huge progress after watching this vid.thanks buddy🙌
Who else in quarantine rn and has watched hundreds of these vids and still cant wheelie.
i can understand your pain
I've been doing this for a month and yesterday I finally started to get it
@@akshayesharma2778 I can do it but I still cant tap the back break to keep it for long.
Yeah I’m learning but yeah can’t do it long only can do like 2 or 3 pedals
its not the amount of videos u watch, its the amount of practice u put in. sure, the videos give u tips but they cant make u a master
This was by far the best MTB tutorial I’ve seen so far! It covered the really important tips that have been left out in literally every other wheelie tutorial. Keep up the awesome vids!🤟🤟
I'd like to learn to wheelie but need to get my training wheels off first.
If you ride a fairly modern full suspension bike, remember to lock your shock. That simple thing should and will make it much easier to wheelie successfully.
What‘s a shock?
day 1 for me today, and it feels like it's gonna take 7 years
Same here LoL
How is it now? Edit: I did it for myself and 2 months have passed yet. I'm getting really good at it, trying to swerve now. Good luck guys!
Did you do it?
Hands down the best wheelie guide I've seen. Never heard anyone else discussing how you should steer with your ass but it makes sense and the video clearly shows it. Explained very well.
I practiced 7 days in a row, an hour a day and on the final day I wheelied my goal, 100 meters!
thats pretty damn good, i've been at it just about going on a month at about 45 minuets each time on average and i may go 40 to 50 feet every one in a while, if im lucky, i dont expect to do 300 meters for like a month from now, and thats if i stick with it.
This is on my bucket list, you only have one life might as well learn anything you can
It's taken around 3 weeks, but I'm finally starting to see some significant improvement.
I can’t even get high enough to fall off the back
Try a lower gear maybe together with an explosive movement upwards on the handlebar
Pro tips: 1 - Look straight ahead of you (not down at your bike). 2 - Choose a middle gear so that you don't spin out and can maintain your balance.
I just love how smoothly you were able to unclip and step of the rear of the bike in those examples!
Ive been practicing for 4 days now and i think i’m almost there! ill let people know if I actually learn it in 7 or under

Thank you.
Good luck! And watch some more tutorials too.
a good exercise for wheelie is to lean against a wall with rear brake on and the chain remove from the front hub and keep pedaling, this is good for longitudinal balance
throwing your knees to the left or right is also good for lateral balance
you don't learn in 7 days, but in 2-3 months 10-20 minutes a day you have a chance,
it`s all about muscle memory, imagine you are a newborn learning to walk
@@ssangry99 Yeah it really isn't in 7 days. It is really counter intuitive to lean backwards instead of pulling with your arms. I can't pop the wheelie at the moment and I have been trying from about 4-5 days. The best I can do is a small pop on good attempts.

Congrats on the video! Well done! Have looked into wheelie videos and never came across of such in-depth knowledge. Thank You! Thank you for both 'Like'. Really made some progress. Went up from the clumsy front wheel lift to a controlled one and seeking now the sweet spot...Thanks!
although i haven't learnt how to wheelie one thing i will say when it comes to getting to tired or trying to practice for more than an hour. i don't know if this works for wheelies but the way i learnt how to cycle with no hands was simply practising on the way to school. i think trying to practice just simply on the way to somewhere means you wont be as tired since it doesn't matter as much if you hold it for a long time. you will actually be thinking about getting to your destination. yes it takes more time but it could be argued that doing it this way would be easier. of course i don't know yet because i haven't learnt fully how to wheelie but from doing it this way the past week i have been able to hold about 2m. not as fast as the way of learning in the video but certainly something to consider if you don't mind it taking longer.
Trex one problem, I’m not about to bring my 6k$ bike to school and lock it up
I got into trouble in work ... my boss passed and though he was saying Willy ...
A bike with a wide gear range is great for practicing wheelies
The good thing about today is i can't keep the wheel up much, and today I am confident I will improve because the bar is currently so low for me :-))))))
Thanks!

Im pretty convinced its impossible to actually learn how to wheelie in 7 days, even decently.. it takes dedication, patience and practice.
