Yeah. It would have worked if they had a similar budget to the first 1. That really is the only point though when you notice the staright to DVD budget of this movie.
@Obasiliasfilosofos actually, the novel had a more utopian tone. the author gave reasonable explanations for the political structure of the Federation. It had little to do with Nazism, but more to do with responsible use of power. Also, before the Bug War, the general impression was that it was pointless to join the army, because there were no more wars to fight. to me, that's the opposite of "overt militarism".

Honestly I'd fight and die for the Federation with or without this song. I mean they have the best looking weapons (which you could make if you had the real life parts, ruger mini 14 composite and 2 others i cant remember).
If the movie had kept this 'tone' the whole way, it would have been much better IMO. Much better than 2, but much worse than 1... it needed this song's 'darkly ironic' tone all the way through, rather than being so on-the-nose with the religious analogy at the end. Good idea, just too heavy handed IMO. ST1 did the satire more subtly and much better. This song is by far the best thing to come from ST3 (and the hilarious "OUTSTANDING!" line reading).
i don't understand why they have a mobile infantry when they are so far advance whats the point of having 10000 units if you have ships, jets, missiles and q-bombs that can do far more damage.

I have all 3 movies in collection. I agree the 1st is and always will be a classic to me (among my top 10 fav sci-fi) however the 2nd was just a cash grab movie, made to make more money due to the success of the 1st. Lastly the 3rd one I found to be very close to the 1st movie in its story of roles of a military controlled government and single minded patrotic propaganda.
Only one thing good came from number three.. The song.. Number one shits and pisses on everything else, and it just throws up on number two, wait.. It also makes donkeys rape it to death. D:

I agree. This sequel had the most potential to be decent sequel to the first film. It had many good bits, but overall it was a mess.
