How to change your Kidde hardwired smoke alarm batteries (To get them to stop beeping)

Steps:
1: Turn off AC power (Take alarm off mounting base if necessary)
2: Take out batteries
3: Hold test button to discharge any additional power left in unit
4: Replace with new batteries
5: Turn AC power back on (Twist the alarm back on the mounting base)
6: Test unit
if you're still having problems, it could mean that the alarm is defective and it's time to change your smoke alarm.

I closed the battery door after I removed the batteries and the red kick stand looking things are now in the way and I can't completely open the battery door.

I have a combo smoke/carbon monoxide hard wired with battery backup detector. Late at night (of course) it started saying Low Battery every 90 seconds or so, with a single chirp each time it said that. I replaced the batteries but it kept on saying Low Battery and chirping. I tested all the batteries. The initial set tested at 1.52 volts and 1.29 volts, while the 2nd set were both above 1.5 volts. Defective unit?

Thank you, had no idea I actually had to remove it from the hardwire for the beeping to stop. They should really include that in the manual!
