Great video! Ive experienced it myself by trying a game i never thought i wouldve liked in the first place, but now have a couple hundreds of hours of gameplay on it. Feels great to branch out

I never really played attention to achievements before but having specific goals of things to do in each game has made games I got bored of years ago infinitely more enjoyable.
something i noticed when playing God of War is that you aren't punished for trying to fight enemies above your combat rating (the all-important number you mentioned) - other than being killed, of course. but i managed to kill a big boi with a rating of 8 when i was at 6 or so, and got the loot he was protecting (which gave me even more rating). Imo GoW’s combat really shines in the post game. All the challenges really force you to understand the systems in ways the main story never did. Like, try facing the Valkyrie Queen and tell me GoW’s combat is shallow. That boss gave me more trouble than most Souls bosses I’ve fought. Edit: Obviously it only shining in the post game is an issue, but even so.
If you haven't already, you should play Ultrakill. It's a really good game and it's difficult. (of course only difficult if you play on higher difficulties) and is extremely rewarding when you beat a boss, and can even give you a new gun. The game is extremely replayable, considering there's a lot of secrets to uncover, that you likely would not have found in your first play through. Over all the game is rewarding and has a large arsenal that you can pull off some awesome combos with. So if you haven't played it, you should check it out, and you might find it fun.
5:55 we may not need you too, but PLEASE TALK ABOUT TUNIC!! Although seriously, I can't wait to play Ori. waiting for school to end to get into a genre I haven't tried yet. oh and steam said it was simular to TUNIC so naturally...
People need to watch shit before making assumptions. Trying different things is good, I just wish more obscure and older stuff was more often given a chance.
I played through the entirety of Jet Set(Grind) Radio on an original Dreamcast recently on stream and it honestly made me happy about playing games again another thing you do if you're feeling burnt out is play an older game that you use to love and reconnect with it and your love for gaming all over again.
I've been stuck grinding the same few games for years and the moment i tried to branch out to darksouls i imediatly gave up and returned to my old games and it took me a good 6 times of starting dark souls before i decided to just power through and it was the best experience in years. the soulsbourne games got me on their hook for the past 2 years and they are so incredibly different from what i used to play that i decided to branch out more and actually had fun with video games again
2 games that got me back into gaming these last 6 months are project zomboid and the yakuza series. Highly recommended. Thousands of hours later and I'm back to gaming almost daily
Honestly, it was cyberpunk 2077 that brought me back into gaming. I never really got that into any rpg games before. Was more of a fps multi-player or racing game. I have always loved the competitive nature of them since I'm a pretty competitive person, but I got hooked into the hype of cyberpunk and pre-ordered it and was initially obviously disappointed by the game I always stuck with it and in the end found one of my favorite games of all time and game that keeps bringing me back consistently.
i feel for gamers that arent like me, and cant put hundreds and hundreds of hours into one game over the course of several years. i feel like its because thats how i always played video games especially growing up poor. gaming is a luxury i couldn't indulge in with more games, so i played the hell out of the ones i already had, just trying out every possible idea in my head. i was happy to do this, as i thought that was the point of games. and even to this day, i still play like that 6 year old who cried because they couldn't find a "triangle button" on the gamecube controller for a "triangle jump"
This is a problem I struggle with a lot and I've tried branching out and sometimes I find things I like, such as the Total War Warhammer games have been such a fun genre that I didn't even know I liked at the time. This was a really good video and a great topic to bring up thanks again Stryxo!
I have a ton of games in my Steam library that I have literally never played. Now I’m gonna try to go through all of them. Who knows, might find an absolute gem
Indie games make video game fun again, at least for me since 2 of my favorite sub-genre which is survival horror and stealth die (or at least being stagnant) within AAA industry. I tried another sub genre like city-sim and immersive-sim, absolutely loved it
I would by no means say survival horror is dead seeing how good the games have already been this year. Yeah two of them are remakes (RE4 and Dead Space) but they are simply amazing regardless. Meanwhile we have Amnesia The Bunker coming out next month and having played the demo, I can already tell it is going to become one of my favorites.
@@graphite7898 maybe I'm a bit picky for survival horror 'coz I've never considered RE4 and its brethren a survival horror, just some action game slapped with some monster and gore. Again, survival horror is being stagnated with remake instead of new IP or installment. I agree with The Bunker, tried the demo and instantly felt in love. But again since Frictional Studios is an indie dev is one the reason why they're not afraid to explore relatively new idea like The Bunker hence making survival horror great again
I am playing the same game for like 6 years now, and I still have fun. But I also tried some indie games and I gotta say I missed out some great games.
The one issue with this is that a lot of games are frickin’ expensive these days. It’s kinda cost-prohibitive to just try a game and see. And to be fair, I honestly mostly do play indie games these days, which is much cheaper. But even at indie prices, having two or three games in a row prove unenjoyable to you will have severely set you back.
Most games people haven't played are practically free right now. Most expensive games are only the newest ones. TitanFall 2 on Steam at the moment is like $3. And on top of that you have free mods. I've spend hundreds of hours playing Doom 2, Half-Life mods, all of them were free.
WOW that was a long ass run of Risk of Rain 2 lol. Anyways, this was a nice little video that might get me to try a few more games and maybe play something else not on my Xbox. Thanks Strxyo!
To anyone averse to reading, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Gnosia. It’s a spacey game that makes you think right down to the core what you want. Logically having to solve the mystery of who’s who and what’s lying aboard a ship in the future. Amazing and narratively driven, 10/10z
Had my own version of this recently, though for me it was less burnout and just more being a functional adult and having less time for games. But anyways, I've never been a big fan of horror. Not cos I get scared easily, but because many popular horror games are just stealth games with ambience, and the idea of moving incredibly slow while avoiding detection has always struck me as boring instead of tense. Still, despite this, I heard good things about Signalis and decided to give it a try, and ended up enjoying it way more than I ever expected to. Also applies to other popular games I might not have otherwise tried, such as Neon White, Tunic, and Hi-Fi Rush (though my lack of rhythm does make it a bit hard for me to enjoy that last one).
I recommend the new Legend of zelda game for nintendo switch. It doesnt have the best graphics or the best fps but that doesnt matter. The game's story and gameplay is creative and amazing. I beat it two days ago and it might be the best video game I have ever played.
Can't wait for the Foekoe gaming video talking about this video. Also, as much as I'd want to branch out more with video games, I LITERALLY CAN'T, I get like two, sometimes three video games a year.
I got aoe 2 for me and my dad not to long ago and we love it, I also did the same thing with trying different games and because of that games like the binding of Isaac rebirth are some of my favourite video games ever.
@@svennevs5740 The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Stryxo’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Stryxo truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Stryxo’s existential catchphrase "Video games aren’t fun anymore" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Stryxo’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. I was burnt out a lot too, then I started playing more lesser know games or just some indie games I never heard of and by far the game that I loved the most was Dead Cells absolutely in top 5 favorite games of all time. I also went out of my comfort zone for two areas- 1. Slower paced games such as RDR2 and I’m incredibly happy I took that step because, and this may be surprising to some people, it was just spectacular, and imo opinion damn near perfect. The second type of game I took a try at was super hard challenging games like the from software games and Sekiro was another game that kept that spark going. My favorite combat system in any game
My two favorite indies are Enter the Gungeon and Slay the Spire. HIGHLY recommend. Gungeon is a sweaty game, and StS is basically infinite replayability.
Seen the foekoe video yesterday When he talks about this topic , and i liked his view of the whole "games arent fun anymore" drama i recommend watching it
I'd also like to add that sometimes you may try something that sucks or doesn't quite hit the mark, but which then regenerates you love for something you had been burned out on. "Well this was an at-best adequate experience, but wow my beloved burn-out-cause shines so brightly in comparison, and i now have a whole new perspective on it that makes me appreciate it even more!"
Branching out can be quite intimidating especially if you havent before but it genuinely helps you find games that you could enjoy in the future I used to always overlook things like Stardew Valley or ACNH because I didnt like games in a similar genre like sims or uh sims... yeah I dont like sims 😔but when I tried them both out I enjoyed them a lot its like when someone asks you if you want to watch a movie but then you say it looks unintresting but then when theyre watching it you catch yourself watching it because it is actually interesting and something you never thought you would like if that makes sense
I recommend you try out playing Marvel's Spider-Man It's such a good game and the story is so emotional My second most favourite singleplayer game ever
Yes. I too strarted branching out. I've been trying roguelikes and roguelites lately. Eventually, you'll have a large selection of games from a large selection of genres. You'll just switch to another favorite genre when you're bored with one. You won't really need to complain anymore.
In regards to your final point about “maybe this genre isn’t for you but you tried.” I am of the mindset that almost every person likes every genre, it just needs the right game. I’m not a fan of turn based combat games, with the exception of nostalgia for playing Pokémon as a kid but that doesn’t count, but I loved Child of Light for making that type of combat more engaging. I’m too impatient, I just want to shoot first and ask questions later. But, by making it so you’re not just waiting for the AI to take their turn, it keeps me captivated by trying to think about all the decisions I can make mid-turn and sometimes negate the enemy turn. I’ve never been a fan of the GTA games, but Cyberpunk has me hooked with its setting (after all the updates of course).
For some reason the games I hold of playing are usually the ones I love the most. For example, I've been playing the ''souls'' series since 2011 and every release past that except sekiro. I played Sekiro way later and honestly its one of my all time favorite games of all time. You don't level up like dark souls though you get stronger by killing bosses, but that also forces you to get good enough to defeat them. Its something with being able to take on groups of people if you're skilled enough that no other game have given me as much dopamine doing.
June 4, 2023: Branching out is something I struggle with a bit. I know I should do it more. In fact one of my favorite game series (being God of War) was alien and foreign to me. The only reason I ever gave it a shot was because someone very close to me talked about his experience with the game. Regardless I have a problem with only playing FPSs, and while I haven’t been burned out on Team Fortress, Duke Nukem 3D, or Halo yet, I really feel as if I should try something new.
YES. PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ON THE MIRROR’S EDGE GAMES! You will automatically become my favorite youtuber
Cant wait for the next vid. ( Hope it ever releases )
gotta love it when smoothbrains immediately judge a video based on the thumbnail alone.
evil stryxo be like
5:55 we may not need you too, but PLEASE TALK ABOUT TUNIC!!
Obscure and old... Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri?
@@guidedexplosiveprojectileg9943 Sure! Good ol Sid Meier!
@@mistertagomago7974 You ever play Alpha Centauri?
It’s all about titles. That video will always be connected to gaming hate/burnout regardless of bringing a positive message at the end.
Thousands of hours later and I'm back to gaming almost daily
congratulations you have reached level 2
Stryxo: Explaining fun videogames
Also Stryxo: Showing clips of him playing escape from tarkov at 5:45
i find it funny that he has tarkov at 5:45
It’s funny that this comes out less than a week after Foekoe’s vid
Honestly, it was cyberpunk 2077 that brought me back into gaming. I never really got that into any rpg games before. Was more of a fps multi-player or racing game. I have always loved the competitive nature of them since I'm a pretty competitive person, but I got hooked into the hype of cyberpunk and pre-ordered it and was initially obviously disappointed by the game I always stuck with it and in the end found one of my favorite games of all time and game that keeps bringing me back consistently.
“They’re both calming laid back games”
Shows half of a neighborhood on fire.
Dude got put on blast and made a sequel lmao
Jarrasic park 2 or planet zoo were great experiences for top down simulations for me
It's probably a good thing that I never had a favourite game genre in case I got burnt out over the genre.
Very good video and message here.
i feel for gamers that arent like me, and cant put hundreds and hundreds of hours into one game over the course of several years.
i feel like its because thats how i always played video games especially growing up poor. gaming is a luxury i couldn't indulge in with more games, so i played the hell out of the ones i already had, just trying out every possible idea in my head. i was happy to do this, as i thought that was the point of games. and even to this day, i still play like that 6 year old who cried because they couldn't find a "triangle button" on the gamecube controller for a "triangle jump"
This is a problem I struggle with a lot and I've tried branching out and sometimes I find things I like, such as the Total War Warhammer games have been such a fun genre that I didn't even know I liked at the time. This was a really good video and a great topic to bring up thanks again Stryxo!
Another amazing video. Quickly becoming one of my favourite content creators
The universe is once again at peace
I have a ton of games in my Steam library that I have literally never played. Now I’m gonna try to go through all of them. Who knows, might find an absolute gem
Thanks for giving me a reason why I only have 3 hours in a 70 dollar game
Woo random thursday upload!
I recommend ultrakill it is a game that is like a fusion between devil may cry and quake with a story similar to doom
Guy like me, I love Burnout. I sunk so many hours into Takedown and Revenge, and those games still hold up
Indie games make video game fun again, at least for me since 2 of my favorite sub-genre which is survival horror and stealth die (or at least being stagnant) within AAA industry.
But I also tried some indie games and I gotta say I missed out some great games.
u need ps vita bro
Old games are dirt cheap and fun and great as hell (Deus Ex)
Well, you can always sail the seven seas...
@@justinian1226 Theft is never okay for something you don't need. I can live without video games.
@@Waffletigercat It's not theft if you end up buying it afterwards. It's just... an extended free trial ;)
Now we just need “Video Games Are Fine, Actually”.
The best superpower would be the ability to finish games
Also, as much as I'd want to branch out more with video games, I LITERALLY CAN'T, I get like two, sometimes three video games a year.
just get gamepass
@@DrearySaturn I. CAN'T. My family is too poor for something like that, we had to cancel most of our subscriptions because we recently moved out.

Breath of the Wild brought me back to gaming when I was convinced the medium wasn't for me anymore
Agreed. Not branching out can kill your overall interest. It happened to me with MMOs, but now I am so so glad I moved away from them.
You know its a good day when stryxo uploads
Out of all the game genres we tried out, Sports have been a genre you get because your friends play sports games and some casual multiplayer shooters.
I got aoe 2 for me and my dad not to long ago and we love it, I also did the same thing with trying different games and because of that games like the binding of Isaac rebirth are some of my favourite video games ever.
Some people just can’t understand Stryxo’s type of humor and I pity those people.
Those people include and are limited to:
Brandon.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Stryxo's type of humor
What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Stryxo tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
@@NoSteps ok
@@NoSteps Is the second paragraph a reference to something? I swear I've seen that before
I was burnt out a lot too, then I started playing more lesser know games or just some indie games I never heard of and by far the game that I loved the most was Dead Cells absolutely in top 5 favorite games of all time.
Seen the foekoe video yesterday
When he talks about this topic , and i liked his view of the whole "games arent fun anymore" drama i recommend watching it
I'd also like to add that sometimes you may try something that sucks or doesn't quite hit the mark, but which then regenerates you love for something you had been burned out on.
"Well this was an at-best adequate experience, but wow my beloved burn-out-cause shines so brightly in comparison, and i now have a whole new perspective on it that makes me appreciate it even more!"
You don't say? Playing the same genre of game will lead to you getting burnt out? Almost as if people need variety?
Good ending unlocked
Waiting for bro to talk about TOTK being game of the year:
NEW STRYXO UPLOAD LESS GO
And Stryxo lived happily, ever after.
trying new genre of games is a must for me after I discovered Outerwilds last year and Hifi rush this year, both redefined what games meant to me.
I recommend you try out playing Marvel's Spider-Man
It's such a good game and the story is so emotional
My second most favourite singleplayer game ever
Yes. I too strarted branching out. I've been trying roguelikes and roguelites lately.
Eventually, you'll have a large selection of games from a large selection of genres. You'll just switch to another favorite genre when you're bored with one. You won't really need to complain anymore.
hifi rush and dead space remake were a huge breath of fresh air for me
In regards to your final point about “maybe this genre isn’t for you but you tried.” I am of the mindset that almost every person likes every genre, it just needs the right game.
6:45 I took that chance multiple times over the years. and man, the risk was calculated but i'm bad at math
One thing that will never change is the difference of toxicity from 2017 to now
I recommend racing games. Especially older ones.
I always thought you talked about games u like
I love the Titanfall 2 name drop
Hell yeah, video games
I started pc gaming like 2022 with a i3, Playing older games from 2013, And they are fun.
Being negative is more entertaining!
Thanks for helping me. I’m thinking about trying fighters or Elden Ring.
June 12, 2023 edit: I have tried Elden Ring. It’s great, even though I die to literally everything.
My issue is that theres too many games i want to play i want to play some old classics as well as the newer stuff.
Bro really should have been sponsored by Age of Empire😂
