This happens in Spain almost every day. If a squatter gets into your home, you can't kick them out without a court order and it can take years for that. If they have kids, forget about your house. They move in, pay the light bill and keep it going like it's their house. Some influencers have started professional yet illegal businesses to kick them out. If this happens to you, never call the police! You call it an anti-squatter group and let them handle it!

In Georgia there is a new law to protect homeowners against squatters. Basically the squatter goes to jail and being charged with a felony.

I totally disagree with them arresting her; however, since he's claiming to be a tenant she wasn't supposed to change the locks. It's an illegal eviction. The issue here is they never proved they had a lease or that they were there for over 30 days.

NYC has one of the worst squatter laws ever. There’s no way squatters should illegally be in someone else’s property and the owners have to take them to court?! Plus the dude didn’t provide any proof of a leave agreement at all. This is insane.
It's not just in NY.. trust me.. most states have squatters laws that benefits the squatters, while screwing the homeowner.. this is why I would NEVER allow a stranger into my home.. easy to get them in.. a total nightmare to get them out.

I had tenants who refused to pay and wouldn’t leave. Had to deal with evicting them while I was going through cancer treatments. I get strong rules to protect tenants but it should t be this difficult to get squatters out

@@FrenchCocoa369 stun guns and pepper spray is legal in all 50 states. If they come into your home uninvited I would see that as trespassing and I would feel like I'm in danger. At that point all bets are off I'm using what I have to protect myself and my home. In the south it most definitely would be a gun but use what you have.

I’m from the UK and we at least have break in and entry laws , trespassing laws etc. UK police would never promote this cause everyone’s house will be getting broken into.
Plus you need to provide evidence to a locksmith that you own the house or a tenancy agreement before they can change the locks . If they forge the documents then that would be fraud .
This is exactly why I'm not renting anything out.. these laws protect these squatters fiercely.. as a tax payer and homeowner I am truly disgusted.. some bum can just break into something you worked hard to get and there's absolutely nothing you can do it.. it will take time, money and energy to get them out.. meanwhile, while you're waiting for the court process, which can take up to 6-8 months by the way...they can destroy your home and move on to their next victim. You can sue them but you're not going to get shyt... they're broke!.. Squatters shouldn't have way more rights than the homeowner's, whose name is on paperwork showing it's their property.

This literally happened on my block in Queens…. except the landlord killed the tenant. They were Jamaican and he was looking out for her because they were from the same place. She ended up going months without paying. he took them to court. The court did nothing. And apparently she would disrespect him. One day he took a machete and cut off her head in the backyard and then killed himself. It was crazy. His wife was a nurse came home to all the commotion…🙁

@@ajat3202I don’t believe the ppl aren’t rich to some degree. Some of the homes ppl are squatting in are properties that the owners don’t regularly live in. For many, these homes are the 2nd properties. That’s why the squatters are able to get away with it due to nobody actively living in the properties.
This is why if you have a vacant property, I HIGHLY suggest to get a legit property manager asap. They will lookout for your property while you are gone, and help rent/sell it for you. My husband is active duty, and we didn’t want to sell our house while he was stationed away. We got a property manager, and it not only prevented squatters, but gave us peace of mind to know all we have to worry about is collecting rent from the manager.
I agree or they can just get a security camera and a alarm system.

That’s the problem though. Under the law it’s illegal for homeowners to cut off the utilities like water and electricity, you could be charged.

If a person has no paperwork or prior tenant history they should be told to leave immediately. It’s defiant trespass. Had a friend this happened too. Took her almost a year, she still had to pay the mortgage and they caused significant damage to her home. Squatters should not have any rights. If it happened to any legislative person that co-signed this nonsense they take action right away to get the person removed.

Girl its wild in NY. My parents purchased a home in NY and the sellers then refused to leave. My parents literally had to do an entire eviction. They got the home after about 7 months.

Dealing with a squatter right now. 5 months after lease has ended and no rent has been paid. Finally able to afford a lawyer and I’m going through the eviction process which can take another 6 months Such a joke. I will never rent ever again.
