    I swear I had a really vivid dream once about a regional form Simisear that was Fire/Electric and looked like Sun Wukong. It flew on a thundercloud that originated from what was originally the white fluff on it's neck and wielded a flaming staff. One of the coolest things I've ever imagined. Idk if I saw some obscure fanart online or if my mind just spun this thing into shape but every time I remember I feel distinctly disappointed at the Simisear that we got.

    if im not mistaken, im pretty sure that spinda can be transfered to and from home, from any game *except* BDSP. i think the coding fuckup for their patterns was specific to that game, and that makes them incompatible with spindas from everywhere else in the series.
    also, if im remembering correctly, spindas from go can only have a handful of specific patterns, rather than the millions of different possible ones in the rest of the games.

    Black/White might be the worst experience I have had playing a Pokemon game- also one of the most boring games I've ever played- but at least it gave me the elemental monkeys that, no joke, are some of my favorite pokemon ever- especially Simisear. They hit the same boxes that Quaquaval hit in being designs that grew on me and feel distinguished, even if that means people call them ugly. I just find Simisear so adorable and funny it became a top 3 pokemon for me and I'm fine if they're not that popular, cuz I at least they're busted on rom hacks 😊

    What makes spinda even worse is that it only gets superpower as a dream world exclusive move in gen 5, no move tutor or anything. So even if you could transfer spinda all the way up to s/v, superpower would be an illegal move as it has no way to relearn it

If you live in the regions of the world that are able to get infinite of those exclusive rare trims, you can basically get any legendary, shiny or Pokemon in general that you want lol

    - Illuminate was boosted in Gen 9 to function the same as Keen Eye. So Watchog's regular ablities are both redundant (It's at least better than Delibird, with one of them being a hidden ability)
    - Analytic also woks if the opponent "moves first" by manual switching, so it's not entirely detrimental

    I know it has nothing to do with the video beyond them being in it, but as the only fan of Simisear in the world, I despise Simipour so much. Of the monkeys, it got slightly more popular (from what I've seen) for looking stoned, when it clearly was never intended, meanwhile the culinary monkey that has the most culinary themed appearance and name got sidelined for seemingly no reason?
    Like, Simisear, Simipour, and SImisage all have Gluttony as their only ability, not including Hidden, which would be either impossible to get or extremely tedious (in BW, not BW2, those idk). On top of that, Simisear and Simisage are both named after things used in cooking directly. You sear the meat, you put sage as a seasoning. Plus, sage and sear also work as sage and seer, two related concepts for mystical people (idk how else to describe them). The pan part of their unevolved forms also is in reference to pans (like, frying pan, sauce pan), linking them more to cooking, along with Cilan (Cilantro), Chili (Chili) and Cress (I'll get to him later) and mostly chef trainers using them (especially in Kalos). Seperately, the tail of Pansear ends in a little fireball, becoming a stream of flames in evolution, Pansage's ends with twin leaves and Simisage gets slightly bigger leaves (rather boring, honestly), but that makes them all match up, 1 fireball, 1 flame stream, 2 leaves, 2 big leaves.
    Then there is Simipour. While Simisage had some clear problems (boring tail, not very cooking related in appearance, but the appearance thing for Simisear is just that it's belly is a bit bigger like it's gluttonous or somthing), Simipour and Panpour are awful. Firstly, all the other monkeys follow a 2 syllable P S and 3 syllable S S naming scheme. For some reason, while the syllables are right, they chose to make it pour, as in downpour, not even a cooking term (You can pour water, oil, flour, etc. into something, but unlike the others the cooking is less prevalent, rather a consequence that the word downpour contains pour. Mix/stir in would make more sense as a cooking term, since those are more clear for when combining things.), and it also does not match up with the other two monkeys letter pattern at all. The monkeys all share a '3 wise monkeys' motif' and the Seer and Sage fit perfectly, but Simipour is just... Impoverished? A better name, in my opinion, would have been Panstir and Simistir, since you stir in ingredients when cooking, it includes the P S and S S name pattern, sounds like Sinister (a trait that makes more sense for a wise old man than simply saying "he's poor therefore he's wise") and adds more potential for interaction between the monkeys (like, group infighting where Simisear see the mischievous acts of Simistir before they happen and Simisage attempt to lead them on the right path, while Simistir just plays along for fun). Cress, additionally, is named not after a watery thing, but the HERB Garden/Water Cress, a plant. He could've been named after a soup or something, but instead having two herb/spice/whatever you wanna call it gym leaders and Chili was what they wanted to do.
    Back to tails, Panpour has a 3-leaf clover shape, perfect for the "Who's That Pokemon" quiz in Lumiose City, but awful for making something look like a water type. Switch with Pansage's, and it would look like rain drops and a clover instead, without even needing to recolor it. Simipour, meanwhile, has a water spout at the end of its tail (unlike Simisear and Simisage, where their entire tails change to either red or green, not just the tips), with SIX ball shapes, being the only monkey not to match with the pre-evolution in tail tip amount. And while Simisear and Simisage both have a pants fur pattern, Simipour also decides not to match their by going for a bid/shirt pattern instead, making them look even more out of place. The top of Panpour's head also looks like a tree, similar to Pansage's, but both look a bit awkward so I won't discredit one more than the other on that one. However, I will say that both look ridiculous and should have had more effort put into their head fur design, like Pansear's single flame on it's head that splits into 2 additional flames on evolution. Additionally, the white fur each simian has is around the shoulders area (and eyebrows, in Simiage's case, but it has a more aggressive look so that fits), but all that Simipour gets is a bib on top of the bib design, no extra white anywhere, so it looks less varied across the body than the other two (not to mention the general lankiness).
    And then movesets, specifically looking at Gen 5 since that was when they were fresh, while Pansage and Pansear were given the more balanced Seed Bomb and Flame Burst at level 22, they decided Panpour needed some help and gave it Scald, a move so broken they took it away from the majority of Pokemon that got it. Not to mention the rather scarce water-types along the main routes of Unova (since you don't need Surf to beat the game, and things like Alomomola need you to back track), Panpour was just set to win against the other two in a battle for relevancy, especially if you consider that all the monkeys get Acrobatics, and with their quite high speed stats, Simipour could easily beat a lot of the grass-types that would counter it. Even though they only gave Simisage Grass Knot and Simisear Fire Blast at level 34, they decided that Simipour should be all set before you even get the HM for Surf at Twist Mountain. Simisage doesn't even need to learn Grass Knot by level up, considering they give you a TM for it extremely early in the game, but they just couldn't let it have a better move at level 34 apparently. All that generosity ran out at level 22. This also doesn't even take into account that Simipour can learn Dig for electric types, Grass Knot for water types and Ice Beam/Blizzard for anything else that should beat it. I will specify, I am mainly complaining from an in-game playthrough perspective, but the power imbalance between them is absolutely ridiculous, and it all goes to the worst of the worst.
    Overall, Simisear is the best, Simisage is alright, and Simipour should never have been allowed to pass off as a member of the elemental monkey trio. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

    Tbh they really dropped the ball on watchog, Watchog should definitely be slower to synergize with the analytic (which would also have lore synergy with how patrat are very observant, which may be why watchog has analytic to begin with?) or have been given intimidate since the pokedex entry literally states they use their bright coats to intimidate would be predators.
    Then again is not the first time they give analytic to a pokemon that has no business having it (Hello starmie with 115 base speed)

    What’s the most sad about spinda is that bc of coding errors involving the spots every spinda you catch cannot be put into home along with that if you have a spinda in home that was caught in other games it cannot go into bdsp

    • @hitoshura01
      @hitoshura01 2 месяца назад +1

      The issue is an endianness problem, where old gen Spindas would have their spot determination reversed from BDSP spindas. I think Spindas from Go can't be sent to Home either, but I think that is likely a design choice. The special Valentine's one is unique where the shiny doesn't match the base form ( the heart is broken on the shiny)

    AND, it'll be known by its crazy hair that'll look like Simisears, Simipours, and Simisages from afar like Iron Valiant.

    Why has Gamefreak never made an early game mon that evolves early, but with a third stage that evolves late? Like with Watchog, you're meant to pick him up early and evolve him so you have a semi-strong pokemon for the first couple gyms who then falls off, but Gen 5 introduced so many pokemon who evolve after level 40 and are pretty powerful when evolved, but why did they never mix the two ideas? Watchog could have had another evolution at level 55 that had 550 BST and could actually be useful against the Elite Four. It would have been the perfect way to subvert the expectation of the early route rodent.

    These are early route, gimmick Pokemon so they are bound to be bad, but then again, this begs the question why GameFreak thinks that such Pokemon needs to be bad? Why can't we have a gimmick Pokemon that's also good in competitive? I mean we do have some, but that's really not the case for a lot of them.

  • @No-rl3ey
    @No-rl3ey 2 месяца назад

    what's very funny about spinda is that the only way to get super power on it is through gen 5 dream world, you can't teach it this move otherwise so it's locked to a very specific mechanic in a specific gen, and all spindas from BDSP have their spot values reversed from other gens, and this has resulted in them being untransferrable from pokemon home, locking them out of being able to be transferred at all in a future gen with no signs of this issue being fixed EVER. Spinda not only learns no other moves that will drop it's own stats, has terrible stats, and learns no useful moves that can be considered for competetive, it is locked out of being in other gens thanks to how BDSP decided to change up the code that determines it's own spot patterns
