It didn't, it was bamco that nearly killed the franchise. They released tag 2 at the end of the PS3 era during a fighting game popularity decline and it had no post launch support, also a spin off game. It did about as well as any other fighting game that came out around the time excluding nrs games which always sell well

My favorite part of all of this is Lee kicks Kaz in all of their tag throws, Julia ignores Ganryu completely, the character in each interaction is tangible

Tag 2 was such a huge improvement over Tag 1 when it came to the actual tag-mechanic. Despite the amount of characters having similar tag-animations, both that and the post-victory animations have a lot of charm to them. I'd love Max to rate the DoA tag throws one day, specifically DoA4, but that might be a tall order.
Tekken tag 2 was my first tekken since 3 and it was sooo freaking fun. I wish more people played it cuz its honestly better looking than 7, better customization, way more personality and more for casual fun and less serious.
There were also KO-specific items that fighters equipped that led to some crazy win screenshots. That REALLY got into the VS modes. Also love the Saint's Row: The Third ost playing in the bgm.
People mostly say good things about the game, it's just that serious players hated the online and everyone wasn't all over Tekken like today. Streamer and esports influence also weren't as big as it started to become during Tekken 7's life cycle.
Look at how much personality and effort went into Tag 2. There is just so much cool stuff to do and see in this game... what the hell was with 2012 and just EVERY SINGLE fighting game that came out that year underperformed massively. This game did not deserve to be one of the many victims and yet it was. It almost straight up sank Tekken even

To be specific, this was the tag-team finisher of the "Hell Mercenaries", the main antagonists of the Tag-Team arc, consisting out of BIg the Budo and Neptune-Man who were based on Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan. The name of the finisher was the "Crossbomber", and when neptune-Man re-appears in "Kinnikuman Nissei/Ultimate Muscle" he was able to upgrade it to the "Fiber-Cross-Bomber" together with Wally Tusket. The upgraded form of this move btw cut off the opponents faces, which neptune-Man collected by pinning them onto his cape afterwards.
As a Westerner it’s a shame that I keep forgetting how big/influential Kinnikuman is. I know JoJo was like that for a while until the 2011 anime started making waves overseas, hopefully the Kinnikuman anime they recently announced can do the same for it

If you want to move by Frame by frame use the small arrows that are above and next to the big arrow keys. When using the big arrow keys, you will move by seconds, the seconds can be set in your RUclips settings under video or somewhere near there.

omg it was 4th grade and i remember finding out about this game and i latched ON like i watched all of the endings millions of times for fun and i eventually got the game like the next summer. i love this game so much it's up there with tekken 5 for me ugh
I will say this much for the Tekken tag 2 stuff, it has its moments and he still felt as a beloved part of the franchise plus the painful moments that the show in this rating video that Max is doing is quite a testament to it.
tag 2 was the biggest love letter to a franchise thats ever been seen, so much personality and charm being displayed through throw animations is amazing.
I love the random ass table so much. Tag 2 does have a place in my heart, but I also feel like some of the things that made it unique are also what killed it.

This game brought people together back in college! A lot of people who didn't even play fighting games regularly would get in line just to play with the gigantic roster of characters and try these moves.
