very nice singing and visuals, so much to interest and entertain! great orchestra and set! wonderfully vivacious voice and costumes appropriate to purpose - enhancing the performance and story! the guy is truly a phenom!
When people criticise Maestro Fagioli, I do rather wonder if they can do what he does. I doubt it, I don't think anyone can. His teacher must be so proud of him. In my opinion, as an opera goer for 40 years, he is one of the top say half dozen singers in the world now.
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does someone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot the login password. I would love any tips you can offer me
@Marvin Julius thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Closer to a real inheritor of the crowns of both Sutherland [for vocal perfection] and Callas [for emotional risk taking and expressiveness] than any other operatic voice of the past three decades. A true phenomenon of music. Unbelievably beautiful and incredibly moving.
Chacune de ses positions décortiquée est magnifique, chaque note est magnifique, le moindre détail est magnifique .....Fagioli l'intemporel qui traverse les siècles...
Pius Twelvetrees It does, and it always makes me laugh when people who don't know how difficult it is to produce this wonderful sound criticise him for his facial movements.
Exactly the voice is an instrument but many people, especially the internet armchair critics, seem to think that just involves the vocal chords and mouth! His support system is second to none - amazing breath control. And his facial movements are necessary to place each note correctly and boy are his notes correctly placed each one perfectly formed. Franco has a finely honed baroque instrument. He is an amazing performer ❤️❤️❤️💐💐💐
This is something that a lot of people do not understand: it is hard work for a singer's body and brain, as it requires sublime control and coordination. So for every couch critic finding this imperfect, try to recreate at least of couple of notes correctly. And yes, this genius man also can act perfectly and credibly become his character. My deep admiration to Maestro. "One God, one Fagioli" ;-)
@@vm2319 Yes, singing a lead role in an opera is like a long, strenuous workout. It's exhausting -- both physically and mentally. This is one reason why, in general, the career of an opera singer is short.
Great singing involves literally the entire body from the feet on the ground to the brain. The latter is very underrated. Great singers are very intelligent people.
I love his high notes and his chest voice. So few singers will incorporate the lower chest voice in such arias (ewa podles being an exception). His vocal range is incredible, and he takes full advantage of it. I LOVE IT!
Pius Twelvetrees I think that the reason why might be because they can't, not having bothered to really learn how to use all their voice, because it's the high note that is applauded
@@mscott3918 Yes exactly! It's such a shame but I think that's starting to change now that countertenors are so much more common. I think we will start seeing more of a wholistic approach to teaching countertenor technique and not treating it like a lesser thing that we have to figure out on our own.
This is why he has always been a favorite of my mine as well! It's so thrilling to hear a countertenor give us that chest power in combination with the high notes.
I have seen the opera live in Karlsruhe nowadays and still can say it was one of the most amazing I've seen in my life. It's so sad there are no more historical interpretations, only new adaptions (why do all operas play in red light and prostitute setting nowadays?)
@@piustwelfth ah, yes, sure, the 2nd half... so... "Nube, che il sole adombra" I made only by pics, ok... yes, yes, here is part of the video of the rehearsal, which I made recording then, fortunately
With all respect to Fagioli (and yes, I know that he´s a great singer), to my opinion the 1990s Sara Mingardo´s version is simply better. So natural, effortless, with a beautiful creamy color. And luckily still available on youtube;)
Oh boy, the tessitura is not low for him... It's just as low as it is for Sara Mingardo. Franco has a HUGE range and knows how to use his range like an expert. Of course his voice is not as brilliant here, but he delivers a great performance nonetheless and does the role justice, specially because of his energy and characterization, even better than a mezzo.
The problem is that women mezzo/alt do not have so strong voices as F.F. This is evident when you hear them live. In my opinion this is one of the best F.F. interpretation.
Okay I deleted my comment because I thought maybe I was stupidly inquiring why a slideshow was choppy, but given the end is definitely a video, I return to my previous inquiry, is it half slideshow, half video, is the first half choppy, or...?
olyaolsson Aha - I thought so. Also in part because he doesn't extend to the potential top of the cadenza and looks amused about missing grabbing the sword!
olyaolsson alexander koldo-lewis Maybe the extensive use of chest or heavy mix? I personally think it's awesome that Fagioli incorporates that, especially since a lot of castrati probably had greater depth than a countertenor can access in only head voice, but I can see it being off-putting to some.
dgviktor It is indeed just a rehearsal. I'm not sure what you're getting at? I'm by no means criticizing him, just pointing out some of the elements of his technique that might lead to very divergent opinions on him from love (me) to hate (others). I will also say that though this is a rehearsal and it's clear that's the case, though interpretively and technically he executes it much the same in the recording available on RUclips from the actual performance.

Perfect !
This aria is so difficult to sing and very fun. The orchestral accompaniment is amazing
Composers must hate singers. Wonderful performance, as ever by Maestro Fagioli.

this Fagioli is absolutely indescribable - voice of God
The stage lighting from below accentuates the use of muscles in the singer's face. Fagioli demonstrates how singing involves the entire body.
