This is an interesting interview- it really highlights who was the true musician- articulate,educated & intelligent. Brian Jones. Not forgetting the most charismatic & handsome. Mick & Keith's attempts at belittling him as he tries to talk is indicative of things to come. He was way,way ahead of them in every department & they knew it. No Jones,No Stones.
Jones really added embellishments were what made the early Stones a cut above. But truly Mick And Keith are great and to hear people say Jones was better is ridiculas. I would say equal and I suspect Jones contributions should have been included in many writing credits. Its clear Mick ank Keith had it out for Brian early on. Its a shame they did not try and help him. But thats why they call drugs Dope.

Brian will always be a beautiful young man, remembered for his contributions to music. As for his "buddies" in the Stones, well they just look like an bunch of weathered prunes. They can never replace him or even be him, they were just jealous when it came to his looks & talent, that's why they treated him so badly. If it were not for Brian they might have ended up working at a desk & be one of us, Brian laid down the foundation of what became one of the most popular bands in the world. RIP

I spent this past weekend reading through different accounts and different people who say that they KNOW that Brian WAS murdered. Even from the standpoint of a psychic... who was called on by Brian's ex-girlfriend, Pat Andrews. She did NOT even inform the psychic of the IDENTITY of Brian! I am NOT a believer in all of these " so-called" psychics... but I DO realize that there are SOME legitimate ones. Anyway... this psychic told Pat... " I am sorry... but I believe that Brian was murdered ". As for me.... I am leaning.... very HEAVILY... into believing that Brian WAS murdered. And that the FACT that Brian was a heavy drug and alcohol user was well known. THAT could have made the person or person's who " murdered " Brian ( of course.... IF Brian WAS murdered ) a lot more confident into carrying out the murder. Everybody on earth who knew about the Rolling Stones would AUTOMATICALLY believe that Brian " drowned " because he was SO MESSED UP..... as usual.
Brian was the most gifted in the band as far as ability to play a diverse group of instruments. His own former band mates have said in interviews that Brian could pick up an instrument he'd never seen before and learn to play it within 20 minutes. And in 6 months he was an expert.
Mick gets all defensive when the interviewer points out that the others are being assholes to Brian...Brian seemed to handle it well by defending them but his voice seemed to show that he had to put up with it a lot and he wasn't completely unaffected
it irks me how even when brian is trying to speak to the interviewer about himself, somehow mick and keith keep interrupting him & even the interviewer acknowledged it 😩
isn't it telling how brian jones was the only one who had anything interesting to say, how genuine, sincere and professional he was toward the media compared to richard/jagger, richard-jagger were more interested in just being famous. It must have hurt him seeing Stones turning into a circus and himself not being able to do anything about it. I always regarded Stones as an un-interesting band until i saw the earier footages with him around.

Everything I've read said Brian was a bit of a bastard and I'm sure he was but they treated him pretty crappy as well. Very nice to see some of the interviews, live concert footage of Brian Jones. Great talent, looks and 1960's rock/blues fashion icon. Shame there could not gave been a intervention that would have helped save this young man.

A lot of folks in this thread have a ''hard-on'' for Brian Jones. He deserves the most credit for bringing the group together. He was a more skilled, accomplished, experienced musician than his mates Keith and Mick, soon to become his rivals. He was infinitely more worldly than them, in short order he rampantly fathered several children by a variety of women having no intention of supporting them or being a parent. He'd met his match with Anita Pallenberg however. She casually discarded him as he began his decline. His demise was ugly. While it's true his former band mates turned their backs after his forced departure, he'd brought most of his troubles upon himself. His contributions to the Stones' rise to fame and fortune are undeniable. That he died before he was able to substantially enjoy the fruits and that he hadn't handled fame, fortune and success well is regrettable.

Their first American tour brought them to my home town where I heard and saw Brian Jones and the rest play "The Last Time". He played through a top of the line Fender Dual Showman. Photos show Jones tastes trended toward high end Vox and Gretsch guitars while working class Keith still soldiered on with a Harmony Rocket. Jones' excess eventually consumed him.

Gives an idea of how much luck has to do with having such a successful band. Luck, meaning in the sense of meeting each other, and the right set of circumstances. Timing. They seem oblivious to this. Only played Guitar for 3 or 4 years. Explains why some of their early live recordings, are quite awful.
“ Explains why some of the early recordings were quite awful” The thing is though, most all of the early rock bands sounded pretty awful starting out (even The Beatles), as they were all pretty young kids and from working class backgrounds. There weren’t instant resources like RUclips back then to make the learning of playing easier. Rock and roll is inherently down and dirty anyways. Unless a person is totally tone deaf, with a little dedication, anyone can become reasonably good enough to play in a rock and roll band (the Sex Pistols are proof of this), unlike jazz.

Not to mention no stage monitors, limited ampification, questionable PA systems, and hordes of screaming girls completely overpowering the sound. In that context, a typical performance might be 10 or 15 minutes of noise and bedlam, after which the band was quickly whisked away lest they be torn limb from limb. In that situation, no band would care much about what the onstage sound was like. The studio recordings tell a different story, especially the sides recorded at Chess Studios in '64.

There were people that claimed he DID write some songs but they never saw the light of day for various reasons.

Gives an idea of how much luck has to do with having such a successful band. Luck, meaning in the sense of meeting each other, and the right set of circumstances. Timing. They seem oblivious to this. Only played Guitar for 3 or 4 years. Explains why some of their early live recordings, are quite awful.

The thing is though, most all of the early rock bands sounded pretty awful starting out (even The Beatles), as they were all pretty young kids and from working class backgrounds. There weren’t instant resources like RUclips back then to make the learning of playing easier.
Rock and roll is inherently down and dirty anyways. Unless a person is totally tone deaf, with a little dedication, anyone can become reasonably good enough to play in a rock and roll band (the Sex Pistols are proof of this), unlike jazz.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t teach drug addicts like Mick and keef before getting knocked off by the bodyguard/driver/hitman.

Not to mention no stage monitors, limited ampification, questionable PA systems, and hordes of screaming girls completely overpowering the sound. In that context, a typical performance might be 10 or 15 minutes of noise and bedlam, after which the band was quickly whisked away lest they be torn limb from limb. In that situation, no band would care much about what the onstage sound was like. The studio recordings tell a different story, especially the sides recorded at Chess Studios in '64.
