    The brakes are soft on the 260, but it is fun to drive. By the way, that's my ZT 260 Tiff's throwing around!

    • @mgrracing9435
      @mgrracing9435 4 года назад

      They seem soft on the ZT 190 v6 too! Are they suppose to be like that? I'm sure they've gotten worse since I bought the car.

      If the brakes are soft on the 190 or 260. something is not right. Mine are just fine. The quality and type of the Brake Pads plays a large part in braking performance here as it usually does on many cars.
      When i bought my first MG ZT I was disappointed with the brakes. The second one bought had much better braking characteristics I prefer. I looked at the Brake Pad Brands.. the better braking second car had Mintex. I fitted Mintex to the first car and both cars had same preferred braking I require. Brembo pads on another also very good. Apart from branding. they looked identical to the Mintex Pads. So identical I wouldn't be surprised if they were made new on the same production lines. Only the boxes and branding were different. Even the packaging inside was identical.
      The rear Calipers on the ZT 260 are far more substantial than the 190 for obvious treasons. They are the same Calipers as fitted to the front wheels on my son's Lotus.

    I'd happily own either, though the interior of the MG is more 'Aston' than 'Astra' compared to the Monaro. The Dreadnought supercharger conversion takes the MG up to 400bhp as well...

    • @mgrracing9435
      @mgrracing9435 4 года назад +2

      Yeah.. I'm not so 'excited' by the Monaro interior as Tiff is. Looks a bit dull to me. But what do I know. It is a great car though!

  • @astraman84
    @astraman84 14 лет назад +3

    Theres 3 main reasons the MG ZT is more appealing IMO. Firstly they can be had for around £2-3k less than the 5.7 Monaro, secondly the engine is easier and cheaper to tune, and finally...........THE NOISE. The note coming from the ZT is one of the best V8 soundtracks you'll hear, especially once you've installed a set of after marked pipes. The monaro is very quiet considering it has another 1100cc's.
    But thats just my take. Both cars are still very nice overall.

    Regarding the comments here about brakes on these MG ZTs, here's my experiences.
    If the brakes are soft on the 190 or 260. something is not right. Mine are just fine. The quality and type of the Brake Pads plays a large part in braking performance here as it usually does on many cars. The front calipers on both 190 and 260 are identical to those fitted to certain BMW models about at the same time .., early 2000s. They are fitted trailing on the 260, leading on the 190.
Apart from branding, new in box they looked identical to the Mintex Pads.

    The Monaro has 70 bhp more power and weighs 100kg less, the outcome is obvious its all about power to weight.

    The MG has a rear end like they shrunk a Lincoln, a front end like someone tried to do a BMW and cocked it up, it resembles something that's meant to transport VIPs, not something you'd actually have fun behind the wheel of. The Holden it's based on has literally been sold around the world, in numbers that MG could only dream of today

    Trouble with the vast majority of TV Motoring journalists like all the Clarkson wannabees, they judge cars on their ability to convert expensive rubber into blue smoke all crossed up stressed sideways on a deserted airfield or race track. Driven that way expect 7 mpg or less.
    Those journalistic measuring yardsticks are simply unrealistic for the most car users.
    Daily driver ownership reality of these cars is a whole different kettle of ball games. If I use my ZT260 V8 as a daily driver or long distance mile muncher, that hugely under stressed Modular V8 has much appeal. That is the point of this car. If I want to save on fuel, I use my MG ZT-T 1.8T where on a run, not driven for economy, 35-40 mpg is possible. No way anywhere near that on the V8. More like half those figures. Maybe a tad higher in actual fact. If fuel economy is a prime concern, avoid any V8.

    The thing that annoys me about us the British public is that when a car company goes down the shitter, we support it more for some reason.. Like TVR, Triumph (cars), Jenson, and thousands of other greats!!... I bet the people here now saying "RIP Rover" etc. couldn't have given a fuck about it before so why cant we focus and talk about the stuff that exists now to make it stronger and conquer all as we used too.. ; )

    • @T16MGJ
      @T16MGJ Год назад

      The thing that annoys me about the brainwashed British Public is their ability to Big Up the products of Johnnie Foreigner every bluddy time. You are wrong in so many ways.
      Back in the early 1970s, when Auto Union, BMW, VW were in very deep financial dooddah, the German people supported their struggling car industry in every way and at every level. Same with the French and even the USA when their indigenous industry were having finance problems. How about that. The rest as they say is history.
      Come April 2005, when the much asset stripped by Johnnie Foreigner of the massive once asset rich Rover Group, leaving the remnants known as MG- Rover then were in dire need of rescue finance. unlike the Nations previously mentioned, the then Government turned their backs on the many thousands reliant on Longbridge and called in the receivers instead. Had that been a Public Sector money pit, funds would be provided. I have never voted for that shower ever since. I so doing changed the voting habits of a lifetime.
      We Brits have entrusted this Nation's longer term well being to too many types so obviously then and now no longer fit for purpose. Thus our decline is both assured and deserved. The damage is both ongoing and permanent as daily news reports confirm time and again/
      To cap it all, I was pulled over by the Boys in Blue whilst driving my wife's MG ZS a while back.She attending her firm's late Christmas party in the small hours and did not want to risk driving just in case.... wise woman. Oh the shame. Not of being pulled over by the Police in their plain clothes car, but the car they were using. They after all only doing their job looking for late night drink drivers. I actually recognised the car as i had seen it pull over some yoofs in a French hatch a few days before and with that in mind decided to play with my good lady who does understand me some of the time, Tutt-tutting alongside me. I used the superb handling of the MG ZS to put some considerable distance between me and the Bibs' car which at one time followed so close could be accused of tailgating. Up comes a massive roundabout, my favourite and I used that to put even more distance between the two cars. No body else about and all within the speed limit. Two miles later the Bibs caught up and on went the Blue lights. They were check for the smell of alcohol on my breath and actually leaned in the open window to do so saying...
      "You were a bit brisk there sir!" Me thinks... you bet i was...
      All checked out, insurance MoT etc they bid us safe journey.
      What about the shame? That being the car they used .. a poxy grey BMW 3-series.
      Only in the UK sadly and getting worse. Last time I was pulled over by a British Cop car, it was a Daimler .. proper job.

      Making this particular so called shoot out TV Show comparison pointless. Two very different goal post locations. As soon as I saw the show back then, I knew what the end result would be.
      I was present at Snetterton Track when a three TV car shoot out was being filmed by 5th Gear back around 2000. One car was the MG ZS 180. Jason Plato and Penny Mallory ( Rally Driver ) were involved with the filming and driving. Also there was a much younger and much slimmer Mike Brewer learning his TV show skills for the future. I took a shed load of images including one involving my MG Montego which they wanted to compare old and new MG saloons. I was very pleasantly surprised to hear Jason Plato state that the MG ZS was the best handling front wheel drive car he'd ever experienced. You could have blown me over with the proverbial. A Motoring TV presenter actually praising a British car! How about that.
