  • We got the timing right, putting the butyl liner in just before some heavy and prolonged rain. There wouldn't have been enough to fill the 3,000 litre (approx) pond by direct fall, but we have 8 large rainwater butts collecting off the cider house and apple store, and we ran all that in with a length of hosepipe.

It is nice to see you both in your good health, working on your pond which looks great. Best thing is that you are sharing these video on regular basis.

Our garden pond which was up in Berkshire started with toads and frogs. They tried breeding but newts moved in and feasted on the spawn. So, the frogs and toads moved out and it stayed a newt pond. They often swam quite close to the surface and were fun to watch.

Looking great Stephen and Julia ! Do you think there are small numbers of other amphibians (besides toads) locally in your planted woodlands?

English amphibians are toads, frogs and newts (several species of newt). We see toads here occasionally, sometimes frogs, never seen a newt. Also see slow worms (legless lizard) and grass snakes. I am told than newts are very secretive and nocturnal, and that if you dig a pond, they will turn up. We shall see.
