- In this mindful makeover, designer Sam Sacks shows us how she reinvented an 800-square-foot hunting shack into a spacious oasis for the whole family. She completely transformed the original space and added an addition, which holds enough space for her family of five. The cottage exudes serenity and bohemian vibes thanks to rustic materials like wood, rattan and leather. The designer defines laid-back liveability with an organized IKEA kitchen, ample comfy seating and an airy principal bedroom with views of the lake.

This couple & their designer absolutely nailed it! I adore her thoughts on family & how the space is used. It reminded me so very much of my family’s lake properties in Michigan. Almost a dead ringer for one of our boathouses except our center piece is a ping pong table💗

I remember this designer, Sam Sacks! Extraordinary sense of color, the color combination always make me feel harmonic.
Ohhhh okay! Now I see why the homeowner was talking about the makeover. The homeowner is a designer. Got it! I think it's cool that their cottage, which I am assuming is their weekend getaway/summer home, is a place for the family to unplug and reconnect. She's just takin' it back to the way it used to be. Nothin' wrong with that.

What a dream. Love this so much.
So good to see a cottage that incorporates what I believed was a cottage as a child, a place where you get away from work life and share experiences of nature and each other's company, not on phones or tv. We used to move to our cottage for the summer months and nobody out there had televisions. People are tearing down their cottages and building luxury retirement homes beside the sweet old ones. It looks ridiculous.

This is very comfortably stylish. Not fancy, which typically = formal.
Love the boys room placement of the beds. And just lovely overall. I do wonder about the no hood though...maybe it just me but i need my fan to get all the smells or smoke that happens...I don’t really like to smell food that lingers. Lol.

I would NEVER think of putting a canopy above the boys' beds, but that works. They seem to ground the beds. There is no reason for them, but change the scale.

Lots of lovely things in this house but I REALLY don’t understand what North Americans like about the ‘great room’. Studio McGee does them as well and I just don’t understand the appeal of a big barn like space. Feels like a fancy rec room to me. And often all for four or in this case, five people.

I am sure there is some type of coating over the glass reflects the heat and besides this is not in Florida, but in Canada. Yeah, I would want some type of privacy even if this is out in the woods somewhere. An optional cafe type thing would be good at least, and who needs so much light that even a sheer drape is too much? Especially with all those skylights. Again I like the canopy over the boys' beds. It makes the scale right.
