      Can you answer my question, is it true that mirin is supposed to be naturally sweet without added sugar? All brands in the Asian stores in Seattle contain sugar or high-fructose corn syrup. The only one I've found that's just "water, organic rice, sea salt, koji" is Eden Mirin at Whole Foods ("product of Japan"), the one Derek is using. Do most mirins in Japan have sugar, or not?

    • @snoopy.358
      @snoopy.358 Месяц назад

      It’s true.
      However, it is called hon-mirin, and most of the other types contain sugar and additives.

      @@snoopy.358 Thanks. I found an article explaining hon-mirin and what it calls "mirin-like seasonings".

      In Seattle I get it at Costco but I've seen it at a couple other stores. I bought it for a while but then stopped in order to focus on less-processed sauces (soy sauce). I make a comparable flavoring with 1 unit of mirin, 1 of rice vinegar, and 2 of soy sauce, but of course it doesn't have all the nuances of the flavor.

    Thank you for this!! I wanted to try that sauce but it isn’t gluten free so now I can make it myself with GF tamari 🥰
