  • So maintenance is unavoidable. A timing belt is one of those things. The manufacture suggests 105,000 miles then the timing belt is necessary. When these things snap you no longer have a car. The valves are bent and the amount of work that it takes to get all the damage fixed is extreme. Even though it’s a lot of work to change a timing belt, it’s a lot less work than repairing the damage (and there’s a very large peace of mind knowing that the timing belt is fresh and new). I wish manufactures would use chains instead of belts or make the engines non-interference at the very least. This means if the belt breaks the valves don’t hit the top of the pistons. If you’ve got an interference engine it’s not worth the risk not changing the timing belt.

    Literally one of the best tutorial videos I've seen. Sure, it takes a little bit of automotive knowledge to understand what isn't explained in the video. But, if you don't have that knowledge already, you're best bet is to hire a shop to swap your timing belt for you.

    Woah. That last motor mount bolt is WAY more difficult than you made it look there. Total pain.

    Thank you for the obvious time and effort put into this video.
    Timing belts on interference engines is outright engineering malpractice. Even Hyundai/Kia has moved away from this. Honda should be ashamed of themselves. This isn't a freakin' high-performance race car, it's a soccer mom grocery car. Maintenance schedules will almost certainly be missed.

    Great!!! Just plenty of information AND if I have a manual, it makes comprehension for me so much better!~
    My sibling actually owns an Accord! I'll save this to my timing chain playlist, along with my VW Jetta's variant. Keep it up with the detail of information! : )

    How many teeth between the crank and cam pulleys? My new belt isn't marked, and my old belt didn’t get marked when it was removed.

    i need help. 2005 honda pilot. screwed up and lost the timing alignment when replacing the timing belt. I now have lined all the marks up and put the new belt on. but how do I make sure it is not 108 degrees off????

    • @kayjay4060
      @kayjay4060 3 месяца назад

      All timing marks match. Can't get it off 180. Crank does full rotation, and has no clue if it is the 2nd or 1st rotation in relation to the cams. As long as they are all hitting DTC together.

    Quick question for you. I pulled my crankshaft pulley off, then pulled the lower TB cover off. The TB Idler pulley had the ball bearings falling out and was completely shot... when I turned the crank to line up the marks, the front cam mark was off about one tooth, and the rear cam was off by about 4-5 teeth. Can I just remove the TB, manually turn the cams the little bit needed to line up, then reinstall all the pulleys and belt again? The car was running fine, but I think the cam pulleys slipped a few teeth when the idler pulley let go.

      I was wondering the same thing why not just remove the belt and turn everything to the marks. I always get a service manual when I do this kind of work. Friend has a 06 pilot needs belt done I think I will recommend a shop do it.

    What terrible engineering. What a mess to replace the timing belt and water pump. These are normal service parts but you have to take half the car apart to get at them.
