    Did the ECU report misfires on the cylinders with the bent valves? I'd expect yes. I'm curious how quickly it figures that out and gives you a clue exactly which head is damaged, if not both.

      I don’t have an overly advanced reader, but it did not pick up anything besides, a transmission error code which is unrelated. It ended up being OK after replacing just the valves :-)

  • @BadIdeasGarage
    @BadIdeasGarage  9 месяцев назад +3

    For anyone wondering, just the valves needed to get done and it was ok!

    I say rebuild the head

    With 300K? At most a used engine. 300k is pretty much the limit on the suspension, bearings, prop shaft, and honestly transmission. All those things would need to have some life left before putting a dime into it. If you tried a head (it would probably need two). You never know what you'll find wrong with the valve train. Add head gaskets etc it's cheaper to drop a used engine in and pray.

      Pray we have! It looks like one of the heads is damaged and the other one is OK. So that’s where we are going to start. I looked into what it would take to get the engine in this and the whole thing has to come out of the bottom. I would definitely prefer a used engine, but doing the head is less work in my set up

    "Casey's timing solution" with the trademark symbol had me rolling. Thanks for the video.

    Good Video man. Would've been happier if it worked but you know you gotta show the failures sometimes. So I say about 10% chance of the cylinder heads being good if the timing belt breaks

    • @BadIdeasGarage
      @BadIdeasGarage  8 месяцев назад +1

      Amazingly enough, it was only valve damage on this. I gave it to Casey who is the guy that was helping me in this video and he drove it for a bit! In true Honda fashion, the transmission went out😂 we think it’s torque converter this time.

      @@BadIdeasGarage oh yeaa, the Honda torque converter. Been suffering with that for the last 4 years. The car vibrates when I'm idling on Drive. Probably need to change it but its too much work so I just drive like that.

      @@BadIdeasGarage Yea, haha. Its a 2009 Accord with 230k miles on it. I was gonna do it but then I thought, it's at the end of its life cycle and I don't have the means to take the transmission off and I don't wanna pay someone $1000+ to do it. Drove the last 80k miles with the torque converter like that, and it is still running good. I just put it to neutral when I'm at a traffic light so it shakes less. It wears out the motor mount faster tho.
