Close up filters are more favorable on longer focal length. Extension tubes are more favorable on wide angle lens. Interesting how little difference it come up to when you remain reasonable on the diopter. High quality portraiture lens tend to be of the same focal length as prized macro lens. So it is challenging to decide between maximum aperture (bokeh/fast shutter speed) and macro capability.

interesting if there are any sense to invest in higher quality diopters...? They are widely used in underwater photography for supermacro, but I am curios If I can use diopters with high quality telephoto lens, ot teleconverter is a better option...

i have a canon sx50 hs and it has 30x magnification 50x optical zoom 1200mm equivilent to 35mm... it really shows the weakness of the diopter filters towards the upper end of the focal length range. absolutely nobody on my facebook had any interest in any of the pics or vids i made with the macro filters. but you can see my newest video to now its through the 10 and the 4 and the 2 and the 1 all togeather to full zoom

Thanks for the comparison.. How would the diopters perform if we attempted focus bracketing and stacking the results in post? Would the distortion and chromatic aberrations be eliminated or will have a major impact on your final image?

Thank you so much! I have the 90mm for Sony and have been wondering, how I never seem to be able to get the "dreamy" close-ups with that lens. I mean the lens is super sharp, but that's not what I'm after. I had a feeling diopters were being used, but now I'm 100% sure!
