I just kind of wish they came forward and spoke about everything like this that came to mind. Who cares if it was scrapped, if it didn't work, or whatever, it's still really interesting to see their thought process and some alternative lore we could've had, no reason to hide any of it
It could even make for an extremely interesting "the making of" video, focusing on the writing itself instead of on the animations, voice acting and similar stuff

It's not exactly what they hide, otherwise the moders on PC would never find content cut from the games by digging through the game files. Most game studios don't reveal these things because the "beta" of the games they keep to themselves in files on company PCs.

    • @playwars3037
      @playwars3037 Год назад +6

The problem is, not only could those ideas probably be reused in another game, expansion, ect, hence their reluctance, but their NDA probably prevents them from speaking about it, and even if it doesn't, they might just be erring on the side of caution, just in case. After all, content they made for the game doesn't belong to them, and that means that unless the studio itself decides to talk about it, the devs probably can't.

Thanks for talking about alternative Prologue. Very few people knew about it before you made this video! I should also give credit to user Flipper444 and his source in Poland who knows a ton about the cut content and have helped the BiA team a lot. Just a few points. I think they scrapped the alternative prologue because they didn't want to spend the time and effort making something that only the small subset of people who played Witcher 2 at the time and imported a save would ever see. I presume that the regular White Orchard would've had the cultist plague stuff at one point too before the whole plague questline was scrapped. Regarding the infected peasants in Velen, they actually were set to spawn at what was once a field hospital labor area next to the Devil's Pit. However this is now just a field of Nekkers. MerseyRockoff(credit to him for the restored Emhyr intro) decided to move them to Mulbrydale so that they would make a bit more sense in the current version of the game. Thanks for the great video!

@ Most of that content is rather minor stuff though, not remaking the entire map of an area sized content. And it would have had to be 3 different intro sequences not just 2 - Rescue Triss, Help Natalis, Save Saskia - so likely when they realized how much work the second was they scraped the plan to have your choice of ending in Witcher 2 affect the intro of Witcher 3. The harpies suggest this winter option would have been the "Save Saskia" intro as this is Iorveth unique (and the Iorveth path is the one with the harpies) and it leaves the North in the worst possible position : Henselts army is gone, Saskia is running an independent state with a strengthened Scoiatel, and the mages have been decimated.
I think (?) the one ending the settled on is the Help Natalis one, as the sorceresses are on the run and Roche is your best bud. It would be interesting to see the alternate Novigrad under a Rescue Triss ending. But that would have been a ton of work.

@@agilemind6241 yes! those are the exact same problems CDPR is going to have unless they abandon totally a direct timeline sequel to W3 in W4. there are too many interior choices the players made inside the 3 main endings for Ciri (Empress, Witcher, Vanished/Dead).
they've also gotta decide if they want to abandon totally The Witcher's Path, include it partially, or keep the players engaged by continuing to Walk the Path in W4. decisions decisions decisions!

I presume the axe Emhyr calls for is not for the man’s execution but to chop down the tree. If the gardener’s to be executed he’s more likely to hang. But the tree seems to have some special significance-but this is Nilfgaard now. Silly Temerian customs will no longer grace a royal court.

    • @toncek9981
      @toncek9981 Год назад

Imho the "Axe" didn't really mean axe - Nilfgaardian (and elder speech) is based upon celtic languages (I think the Welsh especially) and "axe" is Germanic word that's not used in Welsh or Irish for that matter (according to translator at least)...
I think that it was meant to stop Guardman talking to the gardener. Also the "This is Temeria now" could have been directed to both the gardener and the guardsman (he was the one calling gardener Temerian, no one else spoke about Temeria before). For the guardsman it meant "he is subject of the empire and you are gonna treat him as such" and for the gardener it was "now you are gonna do things as you are told to, not as you were used to"

The whole demon thing is very interesting and peculiar at the same time. Demons are quite rare in the Witcher universe and can't recall them ever engaging actively without humans doing something so maybe this plague thing is a result of a contract gone wrong or something, maybe like O'Dimm? Wonder if getting the empress ending while having started HOS might turn up something although it shouldn't considering the whole intro thing but who knows. Anyway I was hoping to see Iorveth in this whole mess somehow or maybe even Isengrim but alas

Sometimes content is scrapped because it was a bad idea to begin with, but later devs will find another reason and rarely admit the truth.
It would make sense that in the Iorveth path Temeria will fall faster and with less resistance, if you don't help Nathalis in Chapter 3 of Witcher 2. Then the meeting with Yenefer can happen sooner, but Gerald and Yen will have to wait until spring to start the main game, due to too much snow. There may have been a whole section of Gerald and Yen reconnecting before the start of Velen, and some Velen events happening sooner or not at all.

Can we all agree that the best thing is that the love and excitement to dream big and push past ones ability isn't really a fault. Many of the problems become charming or loved in time. Its amazing how big the quality jump is and how much they were able to stuff in. I just made another post talking about how much wonderful content they have available if they just bring everything up to the quality of 3 and its an old game. Hopefully switching engine's will mean the whole thing is redone. 1 and 2 will get fleshed out and brought to the quality of 3 and 3 brings them together in something truly epic with choices really making a difference. Blood and wine could be fleshed out and maybe the part about mutagens could become a major story and stand alone and connected to the school of the car.
Its amazing they put people who cared enough anywhere near enough money to get what we have. I want to see if there is anything decent in season 3 Netflix but I will wait for several months to make sure I don't support it. That's why what you do is important. Its easy to avoid something bad to send a signal. There are a lot of things that might be good or have something new that triggers the corporate mindset to go in anew direction. If we want more things like the Witcher we have to make it known there is interest and money. You can even see it with the Witcher that there is a worry of anything that might be to complex for the unwashed masses. The more we can do to show a market the better hopefully. Then hopefully we can find people who care to make it.

I too am disappointed by the cut content for Witcher 2. That being said, I completely understand why CDPR kept the references of other Witcher stories to a minimum. If you rely too much on things from the first 2 games and books, it can put people off from buying and playing your game.
Having never played Witcher 1 or read the books prior to playing 2 and 3 for the first time, any references to those events flew way over my head. I even had to look up a few Witcher 2 characters because I forgotten who they were. It wasn't a deal breaker, but I did have to shrug those moments off and hope they weren't important to the story.
It was only after watching a playthrough of 1 (that gameplay is just not fun for me) and reading all the novels, I was able to truly appreciate everything the game offers.
Having been on both sides of the coin, I can see how someone walking into Witcher 3 completely blind would have been completely turned off if the game continuously played back to prior events. Many new players may walked away and Witcher 3 only has about the same success as the first 2 games. Making it available and approachable to everyone is why it has become the huge success it is. I know diehards can be annoyed when things are streamlined to expand to a wider audience, but CDPR made the right call on this one.

Always wondered what was going on with some of those villagers in Mulbery. Seemed like they were talking about something other than what was right in front of them. Like there was something off about them. Probably why I always found ways to get the hell out of there quickly as I could because weird, disjointed conversations in roleplaying games almost always are a sign of something really bad right around the corner, either a badly implemented quest that can screw a lot up or a major game breaking bug.
Either way experience has taught me to run away from those.
But it does make a lot of sense that it represents the two different paths you take in Witcher 2 what you find in White chard at the start.

Wouldn't it be awesome if they remake 2 and then Offer a DLC or update perhaps with new endings that makes the trilogy one flowing story. It will probably never happen with 3 being a lot of work and Red engine being old by the time 2 is remade.
2 is my favorite. Its my first and even though I played it last year I had a 15 year gap since I had games and was blown away and very tolerant if its flaws. It wasn't as punishing to grinding and 3s worst flaw for a new player is level progression. I made a mistake not long after I started the main quest and found out I could speargun shoot drowners and made it to lvl 12 in a couple hours. I finally started rushing areas but even though you could get back where things are a challenge major quest were behind you and much wasn't a challenge. I understand what and why they did it that way but they did it wrong. Enemies that float with your level and perhaps also get other weapons armor and abilities with lvl would have kept the challenge up since unless you rush the game the quest will over level you. I hate the simplified recipes and brewing. Bombs were overpowered in 2 but only because it was so short. Needing special ingredients especially for high level enemies would have changed everything. The first 10 to 30 hours or so where a new monster was important definitely were more interesting.
Its a really a strange problem since they were a small studio with an incredible story. Technology and their budget made such huge jumps between games they ended up with a trilogy that isn't. 3 they made an amazing open world game but tried to shoehorn you into where they wanted you but also worried it would be to out there to be mainstream. Honestly having the whole thing remade would be ideal. By the time one and 2 are done hardware will likely be a problem for 3 anyway and it can all connect with Iorveth and Saskia. Maybe if you choose Saskia Yenifer and Triss make you a deal and you get both 😉.
There is just so much to the story. Its a world I love ao much I want it to grow and if remaid it would be the grand trilogy of all time. I think there is so much left in the books to mine. A young Geralt starting out and growing up. I would love to play the books but it could be hard although given how long it took and how loose it was I don't see why they couldn't. It would be easy enough to make a Ciri game with Geralt as a side character. Her time with Yen and early events could really turn into a lot of good play time as she learns her powers. DLC could even be easy bringing in side characters or not. From early to mid Geralt well after meeting Yen and Triss has so much to mine. Honestly I would love shorter games built around the world and taking on major monsters and meeting different people. If they came out a chapter at a time and choices you make affect the world. You play such a small character and changes are small enough it could work as a long running series and people could start well in but need to play past releases for political parts to happen. The 2 paid DLC in 3 are the highest quality content. I would drop $50 a year for something similar to build with a map that slowly grew and world events to happen in the background.
I wish (sigh). Just let whatever comes out next not be garbage.

Man, I'm so sad about all this cut content. The thing with this stuff being connected to the prologue would also explain why they didn't add some of the stuff as a DLC (I mean the Catriona story could have been a great DLC, and if time before release had been the reason for it being cut, why wouldn't they release it as DLC). But that all makes more sense. Also really sad that they cut the connection to Witcher 2 short, to a point where it now only determines if you meet certain characters again or not. And I'm really disappointed that they cut Iorveth and more interaction with the Scoia'tael, which really is very short in Witcher 3 unfortunately (although I guess they're really close to being exterminated by the time of Witcher 3).

Especially them cutting out Iorveth was frustrating. All we got from TW2 in TW3 was a relatively brief side quest containing Letho; and even that, if I'm not mistaken, was added later in a DLC. I do understand that they did it to make the game more welcoming and appealing to newer players, but they did it at the cost of frustrating the older fans.

👍hmmm! thanks Letalis! as an intro to a brand spanking new game with an ambitious new in-house built proprietary engine... i can imaging the corpo bosses, department heads, and team leads in the development trenches at CD Projekt were chewing their fingernails to the nubs worrying about White Orchard. deciding to scrap an unknown (to us) number of manhours of work transitioning between W2 and W3 players' choices/starting options and wrenching the development process/story onto a streamlined and simplistic 'Q&A Session' with Geralt had to be nerve wracking!

Pretty darn interesting. I swear, this game has more buried lore than pretty much any other game I've ever played. I'm really hoping that you get into Baldur's gate 3 and start dropping similar content. Frankly, I am astounded that BG3 isn't reveiving far more coverage from big RUclipsrs as it stands. I mean a CRPG with a massive budget that has sold enough pre-orders to pay off it's budget two-times over including marketing... a budget that essentially tripled over the course of said development. That and being one of the only two RPG studios left that I still have faith in along with CDPR. Nothing against Bethesda or Bioware, but they both have some ground to recover after the mess of a game that was Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Mass Effect Andromeda (which was much better than I initially thought with my first two playthroughs ending 30 hours in bored out of my gourd, right before the game actually started becoming consistently fun) and Anthem.
Still, CDPR and Lariam have yet to let me down. I suppose I could include Obsidian and the cats who made Wastelands 3, but neither has really released an AAA level RPG in recent memory. And no, I wouldn't consider Outer Worlds a top notch AAA level RPG. Fun, but not quite enough RPG for me. KotOR 2 and Fallout New Vegas? Yep, I'd like them to get back to that form.
Anyway, BG3 or what? Or is the game looking too big for this type of coverage? Uh-oh, it appears the gauntlet has been thrown down!

It’s dumbfounding - given how much content is crammed into TW3 - that a bunch of multi-quest storylines were also cut during production. TW3 dwarfs most other games in terms of the number of quests available…. but it could have had **even more**. Wild.

i'd like the idea of iorveth's path being considered to be more canon very much. nothing against the temerians, i quite like them all, but i think canon geralt, if pushed out of his neutrality, was more likely to take side of the non-humans, as he was so often considered such as well. nothing against ppl choosing roche, but yeah, if they intended to implement witcher 2 worldstates they'd have to set one as canon for the new players. ngl, i really enjoy messing with worldstates in games like dragon age (even if the execution is sometimes less than ideal) and simulating some universe scenarios even if you didn't play the previous games just to see what would happen. it would be cool if cdpr considered similar mechanics in their future witcher games. sure, usually it means the changes end up not meaning much to keep the coherent narration of the next games, but one could hope. with cdpr's attention to detail i imagine they'd want to make sure the decisions we made *really* mattered in the next game... which is a good indication why they didn't do it, it sounds like so much work to connect all the possible outcomes

Now that some time has passed and we have had a next gen update…. It’s been a few years since orianna has been sucking on those kids. I think years will have to pass to allow the children to be older and maybe there will be a quest or contract to find and kill orianna.
