Im not going to pretend that there are no issues with 4.0 but people comparing it to 3.18 are being rediculous. Everyone that has been around long enough knows that there are no major patches that don't have some issues, which is why there were many people saying CIG shouldn't release it until it was done cooking, but CIG deciding to release it along side 3.24 live over the holiday was great. The only real issue I have is with the community that seems to find any reason to complain no matter what happens.

I was really happy with how they handled the 4.0 launch. Best possible move they had and like you I'm also more exasperated with the community than I am with CIG.
3.18 actually didn't effect me like it did many that couldn't log in. 4.0 which have many different things broken for different people, including not being able to get out of hangars and elevators broken. But also like 3.18 some now cannot even log in, including myself. Bed logged in Pyro after QT bug getting me stuck. Then when I tried to log in, I get a 60k error and it is saying I'm still in Stanton. None of this is really a big deal though as 3.24 is still live...even though it doesn't anyone because no progress is saved.
Thank you!! 3.18 was so bad and worse and like @jbirdmax said i also expected it to come out way worse so to have it this clean EVEN with problems is a massive improvement.
Be careful mentioning time needed and time taken mate. There’s an incredible amount of ignorance surrounding game development. Especially with Star Citizen and games developed with such public openness yea?
What CitizenCon has shown us is that they've narrowed down the scope of the game significantly. Their vision of Star Citizen 1.0 contains only 5 star systems compared to the 100+ that were initially envisioned. Some ships, especially the larger ones like the RSI Orion or MISC Endeavor are not part of Star Citizen 1.0. A part of that is probably for the better, having a realistic scope is still better than having scope creep until the project fails. Yet there's still a high level uncertainty when it comes to what the game will look like, both at 1.0 and post-1.0. It'll all be happy times as long as the funding keeps going. Just don't underestimate what kind of disaster this will become if the funding dries up prematurely.

@j.d.4697 "Progress" doesn't matter. Stop trying to play SC like it's a fully released game. That's your first problem. Everything will be wiped several more times, or more before it's ready to be played like it's permanent. 4.0 is a huge success, even with its problems that literally everyone knew it would have.
@@DrewPrimo I've tried character repairs it's not solving my issue. My year in review: played a load of star citizen and reported a bunch of issues, got hung up on no freelook and ship control hampering my play experience (cig please, please fix STARC-102555), which i cant move past and supported citizen con and took part in Luminalia and IAE. I have loved testing 4.0 as you can see the promise in pyro and with sever meshing it feels a lot more like a game with actual other players in it with opportunity and risk. All of this is because I listen to BoredGamer (and Zin) who bring all the news and personality to our little venture with the Chairman 🎉😂
Server Meshing is a massive step forward for sure. I'm glad they reduced the amount of features added, so it's easier to work out what went wrong and where. Let's see what the new year brings now.
Tried 4.0 most of Thursday and Friday with mixed results. Couldn't get the multi-tool to work with the salvage attachment but I finally got the hang of the levitation attachment. Until a crate exploded in my face, knocking me on my ass and destroying 1 crate of 10 so I got shorted on my payment. On the plus side, I was able to complete 2 cargo contracts, I explored Orison and for much of the time I had smooth play-ability. Still got killed by elevators and hanger doors, but would it really be Star Citizen without murderous elevators? Seeing 4.0 and seeing cigs vision of 1.0, they appear many years apart yet. If Squadron 42 ships in 2026 (hopefully they will be able to work in our 250th year of the US being a country with the patriotic sentiments of SQ42), then the developers can focus on Star Citizen. I still think it will take 3-5 years to get to 1.0. Been a supporter since 2016 and I still trust that Star Citizen will eventually come to its full potential.
lol😂 Those features have been in game for a long time. They just sometimes get broken and an elevator will actually open and drop you off where you tell it to. Oh, without killing you even. 😂
Fun tip for those pesky Black Screens of Death... instead of Alt + F4'ing you can open the console (The Tilde key) and type quit. - From those of us still stuck in Klescher, despite having completed our 10 minute sentence 5 hours ago...
I liked what I saw of SQ42. Looking forward to its release. Busying myself with other games just now, so I'm not sweating what's going on in the PU... beyond crossing my fingers and rooting for the devs to get it goin' in the right direction. Always glad to see progress and more complete ships in the 'Verse though! Great work this year, Bored! Hope 2025 is a good year to all of us. 😉👍
It's amazing to see the year in review and see just how much has been added into the game this year. I've had a lot of fun with this game this year. I'm looking forward to more to come in 2025.
It's been an interesting year to say the least, but with server meshing working better than people were expecting, it's really looking like the 1.0 vision is achievable in the not too distant future, even if there is still a fair way to go.
Now with server meshing in, I am awaiting the new refactor systems that are much needed. We won't see a huge win for meshing until these are in as well as optimization. With dynamic and developed Vulcan further down the line we'll see what actually can be.
LOVE this video! It's so easy to forget all the things we got in 2024 as it's easy to get excited about the things we didn't get but we're excited about. For me, 2024 will always be remembered as the year we actually got Server Meshing and I'm so, SO proud of the CIG team for delivering on it. I'm of course impressed when I fly through a wormhole to Pyro without a loading screen, but I'm even more impressed when I fly from a planet to a station and seamlessly switch between GDC servers. Can't wait to see what they build on this new platform they've created!
People in global are saying you said there's going to be another wipe, or LTI wipe or something, but I didn't get that from you at all. Should have pressed F12 when I logged in.
Thank you so much for this amazing video! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
The SQ42 demo was monumental for me. But overall, CIG have made great strides forward in the game's development. That's not to say they haven't made some big mistakes that have shaken some backer's trust (myself included).
I have put roughly 20 hours in this week and I have just run into bug after bug which has completely stopped me from making any progress within those 20 hours which is crazy to think! I just wish this game was somewhat playable. I really can't comprehend how anyone is getting any kind of progress done, I just don't understand it, this game is just defeating me and it's so demoralizing.
Definitely been a ton of improvements especially with 4.0. The one thing that still holds SC back from being an amazing game is mission variety and a real need to play the game. Playing the same bunkers or bounty missions over and over again is fun but too repetitive and annoying after awhile. We need more variety of npc missions or the ability to have more player to player driven missions. It's really nice to see more and more improvements with the quality and somewhat stability, but we need gameplay now. We also need something to do with our money except for buying ships, components and weapons. Stockpiling money is fun for the first few patches you play. Trying out new ships is amazing, but for most of us that have put hundreds to thousands of hours in the game. That gameplay loop can only take you so far. I fully believe that CIG will get gameplay to a level that will make all of us itching to get back on everyday. The day that happens, this game will be elevated to a completely different level.
As always great job on the video and you did cover it pretty well.I do feel after going over my ships on Erkul cig is going to have to address a lot of ships components total outputs under sized or the values need to be raised, there are ships that it’s impossible to balance or even power up at this point and I am not talking about small ships they appear to be the least effected my Carrack power plants are almost 20 points undersized you can’t even have any energy weapons at all in the erkul calculations, so that needs to be addressed before it gets fully implemented.
Nice summary. I must say that I started the year with high hopes, which have not been fully fulfilled. Still with 4.0 finally somewhat released I am still hopeful for further progress, I will just take every prognosis in relation to release dates more as an heads up on what is being worked on, but not as exact dates when things are ready for release.
They really did get a lot out this year. I feel though that this will pale in comparison to what is coming in 2025. Game keeps getting better and better
@@Malikron Idk man we've been outside the window looking at chefs cook for 12 years, another 24 years of waiting outside the window is nothing. (sarcasm btw)
Excellent review, personally I don't mind the slowness during July Foundation Festival is my favorite event of the year. I'm so excited for SQ42 I keep rewatching the playthrough it is so hype. I think they'll get it out by 2026, I think they are planning for Invictus 2026 but not specifying so that they can push it all the way out to citizen con or the End of the Year if they have to.
Milestone.. lol... Every streamer I've watched the game looks exactly the same. Wait around for your friends for 30 minutes. Get ready for a mission for 30 minutes. Fly across space for 30 minutes. Bug destroys your ship or you in a matter of 2 seconds and it's back to waiting for your friends again. lol
Game made good progress in '24, expecting a lot more now that the major system is in place. No more excuses for them that they need meshing in place before x,y,z anymore!
Bugs wise, it is a traditional Star Citizen patch. Stability wise, this game is unrecognizable in a great way! Optimizations and bug fixing will come. The key part about 4.0 and why I believe it is the most successful patch they have ever released, is that they managed to take what they thought would improve performance and insert it into their game. It was unproven whether or not server Meshing would lead to better stability or not. Then they add it in 4.0 and you can now seamlessly jump between servers like there is no boundary. The performance for me skyrocketed to a much more playable FPS both client side and server side. This seemed to have fixed much of the AI jank that has plagued SC. Basically, server meshing is doing what they thought it would. This is why 4.0 is successful to me, bugs and all.
They've made progress, but I feel like some of the current issues with 4.0 could have been discovered earlier - I still am trapped on my home planet completely unable to leave. Teach me to betray my beloved Microtech for A18...
4.0 has been unsurprisingly bumpy, but it's been fun... and better than 3.18. I'm going to log in after dinner tonight and hope the Black Screens have been sorted.
The only new playable content they released in 2024 (outside of 4.0) were distribution centers. Everything else was reworks, redesigns, refactors. And most of them - noone asked for and noone wanted.
Overall, likely one of the best years for SC? I mean, lots of cool game stuff to do, and the Cargo stuff... Yeah, but some of the under the hood stuff done is MASSIVE! and I expect CIG to start adding systems to SC now besidess Pyro. Pretty good year.
CIG have a had a busy year and I cab see thinks only ramping up, especially if they stick to their promise of playability making the game more main stream, cannot wait for engineering to add that important Multi crew dynamic
It seems many ppl look forward for the year 2025 and especially 2026 if the SQ42 will really release. Regarding the funding of whole CIG I think that if SQ42 will be success and it really might be, they might have additional 750M in the budget for the development, which might sound too much, but remember Starfield sold over 15M copies for 70,- bugs and it offers I would suggest less fun.

I am LOVING 4.0 so much. Plenty of issues, but even DLSS is finally working, enemy AI is lethal, love it.
So thankful they worked it through Xmas
Still not over MM.
I miss the old flight models.
Thanks for the recap!
For me, 2024 was a good year. We finally have server meshing. I look forward to seeing it improve and grow.🇺🇦🇭🇹🇵🇸
As soon as I can reclaim my destroyed ships, I'll be quite happy with the state of the 4.0 build.
4.0 WOULD be really gate if not for the black screen, infinite loading screen, or 60030 error
I'm honestly surprised they managed to get 4.0 out, even if it was on PREVIEW, you carry on the progress
It's good that they completed server meshing. But things like the transit system refactor, engineering, crafting and trading are still needed.
Staying on the planet with my home hanger is still working, but I'm too scared to land anywhere else incase I get stuck without hanger or ships again.
It feels like just yesterday they added the stanton system

I really can't comprehend how anyone is getting any kind of progress done, I just don't understand it, this game is just defeating me and it's so demoralizing.
FIX PITCH, YAW & ROLL IN FREE LOOK, FFS!!!!!
I think they both hit some big milestones and there's a long long long way to go.
So much was released this year. I am looking forward to what 2025 will bring the verse!
They really did get a lot out this year. I feel though that this will pale in comparison to what is coming in 2025. Game keeps getting better and better
I genuinely hate the new inventory system, it wiped my guild totally
This patch has gotten me to play again. Thanks for the updates!
Thanks for the Update
They also changed tractor beams before releasing the ATLS
And?
2024 was like eating the vegetables as I feel 2025 will be more meat and potatoes
More like 2025 will just be smelling the meat cooking in the kitchen
@Malikron haha could be true
Lets hope that they basically took the technical hurdles and will refining in 2025.
Looking at the entire year somehow makes it more positive.
2024 Would have been a great year for them had they actually released a Beta for Squadron 42, and 4.0 to live. Other than that more delays.
Despite the bugs i'm loving the new stability on the servers!!
3.23 really suffered from underestimating the challenges
What a great year, Thank you CIG! And Thank you Bored for keeping me up to date so well!
It was a good year for SC
Hope that top priority is transit refactor, or at least right after stability
Hopefully they can continue to optimise server meshing and get all the other features like base building and engineering in soon
These comments seem to have a wild range of feedback from positive to negative on SC in 2024.
A lot of issues with the 4.0 patch, but it also is not nearly as bad as other releases. Hopefully missions and elevator issues get fixed soon.
Other then the bugs it seems like hugeeee progress. I like where it is currently 😊
2024 was a good year for SC
Looking forward to next year!
They've made progress, but I feel like some of the current issues with 4.0 could have been discovered earlier - I still am trapped on my home planet completely unable to leave. Teach me to betray my beloved Microtech for A18...
I would like the ability to have some of the doors on ships stay open. The ones outside the Medbay and Brig on the Polaris for example.
4.0 has been unsurprisingly bumpy, but it's been fun... and better than 3.18. I'm going to log in after dinner tonight and hope the Black Screens have been sorted.
This year was overall good for CIG but they need to optimize the game next year.
A lot of progress over the year. Maybe not as much as everyone would like, but a lot of things have come to the game!
Nice overview. Personally, I expected somewhat more this year based on all the hype. Still in for the ride though.
Really we saw some good groundwork added this year. Hoping with the pivot to playability that they can really build on it
I still want store bought item recovery.
I will give them the milestone for most releases with the most problems ever released.
I really had a lot of fun with the events like Save stanton and Overdrive. I hope they do more of these int he future.
4.0 has been great even with the bugs, lets get that starlancer added to my fleeeeeeeeettt!!!
The only thing we have is Broken Shit
It's been a great year for bugs too, those never seem to end somehow
CIG have a had a busy year and I cab see thinks only ramping up, especially if they stick to their promise of playability making the game more main stream, cannot wait for engineering to add that important Multi crew dynamic
It seems many ppl look forward for the year 2025 and especially 2026 if the SQ42 will really release. Regarding the funding of whole CIG I think that if SQ42 will be success and it really might be, they might have additional 750M in the budget for the development, which might sound too much, but remember Starfield sold over 15M copies for 70,- bugs and it offers I would suggest less fun.
It's been another big year. Thanks for the summary
Yes yes 5 600 people on a server
totally unplayable ATM. ship spawns in on its nose with no way to access
This year has went by fast I can't believe it. A lot has happened this year.
4.0 didn't flop as much as 3.18 lol it wasn't playable for months
