Relation between the two parts in 90210: part 1 Travis is talking about his first experiences when he first arrived to Cali chasing his dream of being a rapper (he moved to Cali after dropping out of college). Part 2 is him talking about his transition to fame and fortune and it’s ironic because he was down doing dark and low things when he first arrived in the 90210, now he’s successful and he describes that. He’s on the top of the hill in the 90210 now.
Well, he actually lied to his parents about still attending school. He was in NY at the time, and his parents were still sending him a lot of money for school. He was using it to buy music equipment and once his parents found out, they cut him off. He was stuck producing for himself and broke. Story takes off from there. But there’s a lot more to it
Yes. The story of the song shifts as Travis says 'Jacques turned La Flame' - Jacques is his actual name (when he wasn't famous), compared to his artist name 'La Flame'
I just listened to Rodeo for the first time today on good headphones, and I already wish I could listen to 90210 for the first time again. It was such an amazing experience
90210 represents Travis Scott’s deliverance from the evils of the “alley”. In the beginning he was looking for the “alley” where all of his demons live such as prostitution and drugs. When the monster peers in on him through the window, it represents the monster that he has become. In the transition of the song he faces the monster by the tree showing him facing his demons/problems. That’s why the monster shrinks as it has no power. The tree represents the tree of life and it begins to grow as he faces his inner demons. Overall this is him facing and being delivered from the demons that haunt him.
He sings the line about Kanye because Kanye was going to “drop the life of Pablo” but didn’t (pump faked it) and then “passed it back” to Travis who then dropped his album “Rodeo”
My interpretation of the two parts is that the first part symbolizes the dark side of Travis that is being brought out when he's in L.A./Beverly Hills, hence 90210. "He might pop anything, pop anyone, pop anything to find that alley" signifies that he'd do anything to get to the alley, which symbolizes sex, drugs and the Beverly Hills life in general. The second part is the light side of Travis when he's found success. He's providing for his family, opening musical doors for his peers inside music, he's friends with Ye etc. That's why there's 2 Travis' in the video and the tree starts flourishing when the second part starts
I am so glad you reacted to this, this was Trav at his peak. 2015 - Rodeo era was genius and really pushed the limits of the genre. Excited to see you react to his other songs.
Why do people keep postin complex music.?.please people use your brain only post the most mainstream shit so they can get hooked first...so they should probably do goosebumps by travis scott then you can move to complex shit...you guys post music that are for fans ...there not fans yet you gotta hook em in...
It’s actually really impressed me how they pointed out the 808 and hearts from the first couple of seconds because that’s one of Travis’s biggest influences
“backyard we chillin backyard we drinkin smokin” so many late nights drinking and smoking with friends in the prime of my youth to that song. it’ll always remind me of this time in my life.
Man, I have to say it: you guy are the type of guys cool to hang out with, have a beer, enjoy music. Really. Nice friendship bromance type a vibe. Kudos for that. There is positivity in your guy content, rare to find, thanks for the vids!
The song is about the extent of “evil” and “dark” things you have to do in order to become famous. It’s about Travis’ experience when he first moved to the 90210, and then he went on a grind “imma get it granny” and now he’s big.
He sees himself after getting with the prostitute, then he’s back doing that shit like you guys were saying. Then from that dark place grows something beautiful. His success and the tree in the video.
So excited to finally see some Travis on this channel! And yeah, this song was one that took me a while to fully enjoy as well. It was legit one of my least favourite tracks from his Rodeo album on my first listen.
ρυηρυη Travis Scott gotta Lot of good tracks from his old music to his new stuff Quintana pt1&2, blocka ,upper echelon, skyfall, drugs you should try, mamacita, 3500,pray for love, pick up the phone, coordinate, sweet sweet, wonderful, through the late night,..etc 🤣that dude got a lot of hits🔥
you have to listen to the full version of this song, they cut out a whole minute of it in the middle where it has that “awkward transition” the transition between beat changes is beautiful and really brings the track together
I always thought the first part was like this dreamy place. In the first verse it’s a narrator telling a story. When the beat shifts, the beat is no longer slow and sleepy, it’s now fast paced with hard drums, a more alert and awake feeling. The verse is now 1st person. Maybe the 1st verse is symbolic for his life in this “sinful” world of Beverly Hills, and the 2nd verse is him snapping himself out of it and focusing on his family and career.
The connection between part 1 and 2 shows how Trav used to be living before he was successful in rap music with part 2 contrasting and showing how his life is now he’s made it
Weird i've never seen this reaction since i've almost watched every reaction u guys made. This is one of the best songs in the last 10 years, imo atleast.
wow Jon nice guess on that one line, pretty close but Kanye really first started working with Travis on Yeezus when he brought him on as a producer, and Travis then released his first mixtape Owl Pharaoh about a month before Yeezus came out. You probably recognized the 808s & Heartbreak sound because that album was heavily influenced by Kid Cudi and Cudi is also one of Travis' biggest inspirations. Hope you guys will check out more Travis!
hes also really into the music, hence the beat changes and melodic flow. Hes not riding waves hes making his own. he produces some of his music as well. Mostly his old stuff.
That was just a mainstream single hopefully. I didn't mind the vibe of that song, but i def think he should go back to his roots more. I have faith he will
I agree. Rodeo is his best work imo. Birds was good, but I don't enjoy it as Rodeo. After hearing Watch, and Butterly Effect, I'm a little worried that Astroworld will be even further from the Travis sound I fell in love with.
the obvious ones for you to react to would be Travis Scott - Goosebumps or Butterfly Effect, but songs like I Can Tell or Pornography are very interesting aswell (:
Listen to Travis Scott - oh my dis side. It’s featuring quavo from the migos. Also Travis is known for his complex production and voice modulation/ sound
My take on this song (which i btw love) is how travis actually moved out to LA sort of chase his dreams of being a rapper, doing drugs, having sex and fun which is the first part. Then the second part is him realizing that now that he has this fame and success he has to support his family. Idk thats kinda what I think.
i interpreted 90210 as a shift in his lifestyle that is portrayed to be good and golden and thats its actually very dark. part one is him making the realization of it when it was in front of him the whole time. but part two is him reflecting with himself about where he used to be in life before he aqcuired this fame.
Also when speaking about the "roc getting passed" line, Roc Nation / Rockafella Records is a huge label made by Jay Z. Kanye and Travis also have associations with the "Roc"
Kory Johnson, II damn, that’s deep. I didn’t realize that til u broke it down. Thanks!
Thanks!
Exactly. He also mentioned the transition is how he feels when he transitioned from Mo City, Houston to LA
