Long-time Apple computer tech here - I bet that container full of paper slips has the screws taped to it!
When I work on complicated laptops (an old 12” PowerBook has 85 itty bitty screws in 15 sizes), I put a loop of packing tape inside a Tupperware, and stick the screws to the tape in spatial order, and in removal order. You can draw diagrams and labels with a marker right on the adhesive next to the screws! They stay on the tape no problem (stainless, plastic, brass, etc won’t stick to a magnet), but an errant brush could knock them off, so the Tupperware bowl and a snap lid keeps you from knocking them off when waiting for parts. It may not work for a pinball machine - but for Ronnie’s antique repair or a game console, it is really useful.

The customer did everything possible to make your job easier. I repair power equipment, and while I don't want customers to try to repair things before bringing them to me, I do appreciate when they make sure they don't lose any parts or hardware. Taking pics of every stage of disassembly is exactly how publishers of repair manuals do it.

The varistor might still need to be changed if you want that protection, since it was set up for 230V from the factory it would have a 275V varistor. He may have changed it but it should be checked to see if it was changed to what is listed in the schematic. Although with the voltages we have at home today a 130V might be too close to normal line voltage, maybe go to a 140V varistor.
This machine uses sound clips from the movie, so watch out for content strikes...
I like most of the music and sound in this game but there are a couple of sound clips that get annoying.

    I just looked it up...
Mary Shelley wrote her first draft of Frankenstein in 1817 when she was 19 and it was first published in 1818.
I also thought it dated from the 1830s and, while I knew she was young when she wrote it, I didn't realize she was that young.
    That's pretty amazing.
Given she was hanging out with "Mad, bad and dangerous to know" Lord Byron when she wrote it, and knowing his penchant for opiate use, I have to wonder if Mary might have had a bit of chemically induced inspiration.

Very apropos to the game's theme and what you have to do. Not to promote other things, but my wife has a podcast where she talks about the life and death of people. She recently talked to college professor all about Mary Shelly and her writing of Frankenstein. It was all part of a whole thing she did. (I'd put a link to her podcast, but, again, do want to without asking permission). Thanks for putting together this series in time for Halloween. Looking forward to the rest of it.

he took it completely apart to Mylar the play field. that play field should be mylared due to the fiend throwing the balls onto the play field and the ball drops off the ramps onto the playfield. geneva hole looks like very little wear. hopefully you tested the fiends control servo before you reassemble him. when my dmd died I replaced it with the color dmd and it looked great. I also added plasma bumpers but for you to sell it it is definitely overboard.

Though I do wonder, when you get the coin mech put back in, will you use the song 'Feed my Frankenstein' as background music? :-) (granted, it's one of those songs with a lot of euphemisms for things that might not be appropriate for the channel)

Hi Ron, I have a question - Since the power coming out of the wall here in the US has been jumped up, is there any way to put a device in the cabinet that will reduce it back down to 115v like the machine expects?
Secondary question, would that preserve the life of any electronic or incandescent components?
Low voltage can cause errors on computer boards, but high voltage can just fry things. Seeing higher than ideal voltages concerns me.
Thanks in advance if you reply, and also thanks for sharing your repair process with us all. You don't have to do that, but I appreciate it!

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Месяц назад +1

You probably could lower it but I've never worried about it. A few volts here and there and then the regulated voltages end up where they're supposed to be anyways. So if a 5v regulator gets 13 volts into it instead of 12 volts into it, it will still put out 5v. Some of them can accept up to 30 or whatever and still put out 5...
