    I love how similar these pinball machines are to what I fix professionally. So there are professional videotape cleaning machines (cleaning BetacamSP tape, 3/4" umaticSP, SVHS) that have MANY of the exact same parts 😅; although not quite 50V solenoids. I've got one that needs to be fixed for a costumer/client... and I'm on the fence if I need to convince someone to buy schematics, pull a board to send to the manufacturer or tell them to send the whole freaking (85 lb) thing off to be repaired for more then I'd ever charge (I'm just the in-house tech). Gotta give them an answer soon, I'm there tomorrow, LOL

    Great job on this one! These pinball games really are marvels of engineering and planning. And you should definitely watch the movie again. It holds up great, and the part where the T-Rex breaks out is still one of the best scenes in film history.

  • @litz13
    @litz13 10 месяцев назад +5

    Those metal clips on the fuse holders are infamous for falling apart. Very very common problem.
    Another hint, regarding bridge rectifiers - a lot of the games were built with MB2501 rectifiers, and you can safely replace with MB3501 rectifiers, which are 35A vs 25A. A small dab of heat sink grease before you screw it back in place on the metal backplane doesn't hurt, either. Lastly, you can put crimp connectors on these games and plug the wires onto the spade lugs instead of soldering.

    New Mod to the Jurassic Park pinball machine via a modchip --
    just before the T-Rex breaks, his jaws move and in Joe's voice he announces, "It's BROKE!"
    Jurassic Park warning buzzer lights up on the screen saying, "BROKE! BROKE! BROKE!"
    Then, you take the machine to a pinball repair shop to fix it again!

      It's the raptor pit, whenever it fires it back the pinball at you is such a joy. Sometimes the ball goes with a loud SCLAK as it ricochets on the table and hits the glass and it's always so great. Props to designers for also giving few seconds of grace - if the ball drains just after the rapto pit is active, it'll just go "FREEZE" and it shoots you another one. Best table ever in my opinion.

I have no idea how memories from that early can be so vivid, but they are. If I ever get financially stable enough to afford it, and can convince my husband, this is the one table I want to own.

    Hopefully you'll see this comment: I have a Data East Jurassic Park. There are just a couple of things not working correctly . One is the left Pop Bumper but that looks like a switch needs adjusting or replacing.
    The one I can't figure out is the TREX. It moves side to side, up and down and will eat the ball. Sometimes though it will just keep moving left and right and won't eat the ball. If i centre the trex manually and turn off the ability for it to move left and right it will eat the ball every time. What could be the issue?

And I suppose the last thing you want is the controller to go "digital zero" in any way if it's making the PWM along with everything else it's doing... no more light bulbs! When a power supply starts tp undervolt and components still need a certain wattage to keep running they'll draw more amps to compensate to an extent. The higher amp draw is probably what blew a bunch of the fuses.

    • @jussikuusela7345
      @jussikuusela7345 10 месяцев назад

      There are cases where something like that happens, but mostly, lower voltage => lower current.
      High power induction motors under high load can act that way, but usually the highest risk is in running them constantly in "wye" mode if they are designed for "delta". This essentially is a 43% reduction in winding voltage. They can go into a state where just about the only thing limiting winding current is resistance, and ventilation diminishes, or ceases if the motor stalls completely.
      Mostly the failure mode in undervoltaged devices is such that they fail to reach set limit points, (of motion, temperature, etc) either within designed time, or at all, and the affected device stays powered for prolonged periods trying to reach those. This can burn out motors or control relays for example, not due to excess current but prolonged or "infinite" operation with insufficient cooldown periods and possibly diminished ventilation.
