I've always consider the two songs that closes REM album Automatic for the People called Night Swimming and Find the River as excellent album closers that meets the mood of that album.

I agree with you 100 percent on the Elton closing tracks. Also for the Caribou album, it is a fun album that gets deadly serious on the last two songs.

Tim excellent picks. My pick is Van Morrison's 'You Know What They are Writing About' from 'Into the Music (1979). Van is breaking the fourth wall by directly addressing the album listener and vamping the title. It makes no sense as an individual track and or if you are not "into the music'. My other one "Rose Above the Sky' from Bruce Cockburn's 'Humans' (1980). It sums up the hope of the record after being through wringer with the previous tracks on the album.

Great pics for closers Tim. Thank you for another fun video. I can try and come up with a few. The Beatles - The end. A fun one. ,Mark Knoplfer - Going Home , from the Local Hero soundtrack . , Emmylou Harris - Sweet Chariot. From the Ballad of Sally Rose. , Genesis - Dukes End. From Duke. , And finally, the album closer that continues to blow me away after all these years, first bought the album on release, if I recall, late '78 ,early '79, Heart - Mistral Wind . From Dog and Butterfly. Roger Fisher's guitar and Michael Derosier's Drums ! OMG!!
    Cheers Tim!

Great video Tim - try The Garden on Rush’s final album Clockwork Angels. So poignant especially since this turned out to be their last album and with Neil’s death in 2020, even more so when you check out the lyrics

  • @johnmourat712

This topic is closely related to how I have found myself feeling about listening to albums. Most albums (good ones) were designed to tell a story or take you on a musical journey by the songs and their order. While the audiophile in me appreciates the intention of better sound quality by remastering albums into double albums, I find myself enjoying my older LP's with the whole album on just two sides much more. I'm sure part of it is remembering the way I first heard them, but getting into the music then having to get up before my mind is expecting to and flip the album takes away from the experience of the album. Just my personal feelings lately. As far as a great last album song, 40 by U2 on war comes to the front of my mind.

Despite there being many excellent nominations in these comments, I am surprised that nobody has put forward 'You Set The Scene', the wonderfully atmospheric closing track on (arguably) the greatest album ever made - 'Forever Changes' by Love.
