  • If your nonprofit grossed less than $50K/year, then you likely qualify to file your nonprofit taxes using form 990-N. This is sometimes refered to as the e-postcard.
    Form 990-N can only be filled out online. It is super easy AND it is FREE!
    This video walks you through the basic filing process. It only takes 5 minutes to file your taxes. Pretty awesome, eh?
    The filing is done via the IRS website. Here are the links & info:
    WHEN DO YOU FILE
    Form 990-N is due every year by the 15th day of the 5th month after the close of your tax year. You cannot file the e-Postcard until after your tax year ends.
    Example: If your tax year ended on December 31, the e-Postcard is due May 15 of the following year. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the due date is the next business day.

    So as a Non Profit Rescue I have been told so many different things. I was told everything I put into the business was a write off but when I went to file with H&R Block she told me Im at an over 10k loss.
    That I get nothing but but also owe nothing and she said if I had taken donations I would get something back. Idk lol where can I get help?

    • @npally
      @npally  Год назад

      Sounds like you are talking about your personal income tax and your nonprofit. Your nonprofit pays no taxes, so gets no taxes back. And if you made less than $50K as a nonprofit you can just fill out the 990-n and be done with it. If you "personally" put money into the nonprofit, then that could be a donation. And that donation is credited to your person tax return. But there is a limit to how much you can write-off for donations. So even it you donate $10K, only a portion of it is applicable to your personal taxes. It caps at a certain amount (I am not sure how much though). The nonprofit would have a $10K income (tax free). And your could write off the donation on your personal taxes. Hope this helps.

    are there other financial forms we should file every year? for the state? or also our financial statements? where are we supposed to put those to show transparency for businesses that gross less than 50k

    • @npally
      @npally  5 месяцев назад

      You will have to file with your state according to state law. Every state is different. You do not have to post your tax returns anywhere to show transparency. Though some nonprofits will post quarterly financial statements on their website. But this is not necessarily a requirement.

    If you are a non profit 501c(6), how do you create online IRS ACCOUNT for the non profit.?It is asking for the name of the individual and email address. In the name section, do you type the organization name? I already have an IRS personal account online but not for the non profit.

    • @npally
      @npally  2 года назад +1

      It has been a while since I set this all up. But just follow this link, sa.www4.irs.gov/epostcard/, once you sign in or create an account it will take you to the e-postcard profile page. That is where you can fill in details on the nonprofit. I created new account to do this (because it is unclear if I can use my personal account).

      @@masihkashif if you are not a recognized 501c3 with an EIN then you don’t have any federal taxes because you basically don’t exist. But if you are registered with your state then you may have some state filings to do. Also depending on how you are registered with the state then you may have some federal corporate (for profit) taxes to pay. But as far as filing taxes as a nonprofit it sound like you don’t have to worry about it.

      Let me premise this... I am not an accountant. OK, so the 1099 is just an official way of saying you got money from them. You likely still tracked this yourself anyway. If you still did not gross more than $50,000 you can still use the postcard. The 1099 actually benefit them more than anything else. By having a 1099 filed, they can claim the payments to you as expenditures. You should have to worry about anything.
