    I bought a PDP on a whim about 3 years ago because Bond uses Walthers, have the PKK for fun because it looks so cool, but way more than half the time it is one of my PDPs I take out shooting. I'm way below world class but I shoot respectfully well with the PDP. Other pistols I have I like a lot as well, like my CZ 75 SP-01, a few Caniks, H&Ks, even my Glock 17, but the PDP is just a really nice gun for the average guy like me.

    What is the recoil impulse actually like compared to the polymer PDP? Does it have less flip, have more/less nose dive (oversprung?), does it feel like you're waiting on the gun through recoil, does it just feel softer but still flippy, etc.? Thanks for the great info!

    • @hwansikcjswo
      @hwansikcjswo 7 месяцев назад +10

      PDP SF shoots flatter. My grip is good so the nose doesn't dive. The factory spring is as strong as a typical factory spring. I changed the spring to 15lbs, bought from ZR tactical.

    I’m curious to know the trigger reach. I’m looking to buy my first competition purposed gun, but I have small hands. My first gun is the PDP-F and I really enjoy the gun.

    • @paddypibblet846
      @paddypibblet846 7 месяцев назад

      Don't be afraid to use a compact pistol if your hands really are that small. Purely for example... There's almost zero difference from a shoot-ability standpoint between a full size G17 and a compact G19. What ultimately matters is how it fits you as a shooter. I'd definitely disqualify a gun that gives you a bad trigger reach.

    • @hwansikcjswo
      @hwansikcjswo 7 месяцев назад +4

      When I am shooting with focus, nothing. If I carefully compare, the trigger is slightly smoother on the practice gun due to high usage.

  • @sethrich5998
    @sethrich5998 7 месяцев назад +2

    Thankfully this has an actual full grip, that short grip ruined the Q5 SF. Although, the other grip issue was those nubs near the beaver tail/slide stop. They spread the web of your hand and rub the hell out of your thumb preventing a solid grip. Disappointed to see those there on the PDP steel frame. The X5 Legions have this type of thing too. Seriously, who actually wants that there? Have you noticed those raised sections interfering with a high grip?

    • @lon242
      @lon242 7 месяцев назад

      Shit I didn't notice them until you mentioned it. I hope it feels better in the hand than it appears, those edges really turned me off of the Q5 Steel, as soon as I held it for the first time. The X5L's also sucks but at least they can be dehorned. I'm with you though, I can't believe this type of beavertail/edges make their way onto so many guns.

    • @sethrich5998
      @sethrich5998 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@lon242 Seriously. Why do manufacturers think anyone wants that? Surprised Walther made this mistake given that other than that, they are known for good ergonomics. The best grips keep the beavertail slim and high, like Shadow 2’s keep this area really thin locking your hand into the grip. Wide beavertails in general make your grip slide around let alone those bumps that completely push your high grip off the gun completely. Hopefully it’s shallow enough to fill with some grip tape or something. Sucks having that expensive of a gun you immediately feel needs to be taken to a mill. Ha

    • @samr4584

  • @ACxREAL

    Gun looks great and I'm sure it is great... my comment is I've got the "Walther at home" steel frame Canik Rival S and while I'm sure there is value added with the PDP steel frame its a hard pill to swallow at double the money. If the steel PDP is running 1200-1400 then we are looking a little better and that value is gonna be there. that said great discussion love to see this kind of thing its very interesting for competitive shooters like myself. Kim what can we do to get you to run a class down here in Oregon? I'd love to get some focus training.

    • @jackwicker
      @jackwicker 7 месяцев назад +5

      The Canik rival s, when it runs properly, is awesome and a killer value. The issue is that the qc and reliability in many cases is quite lacking. Magazine over-insertion, extractor failures, and extreme recoil spring weight sensitivity are huge issues. If you've got one that runs well, it's probably one of the best guns out there.

    • @ACxREAL
      @ACxREAL 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@jackwicker yeah I'm hip to all that and I've worked out getting my gun working all the time every time. For sure you make a valid point and I can see the added value of a gun that works but that takes all the fun out of it 😉

      $1400 seems crazy considering what a SF Q5 goes for.

    • @ACxREAL
      @ACxREAL 7 месяцев назад

      @@SnapD24 maybe what’s a Q5 run where you are? Here I think it’s like 1500-1600ish. I don’t know but I’m not buying the Q5 for the asking price. They are nice guns but I don’t “love” them when I’m handling them.
      I’m certainly not hating on the Walther guns they seem awesome. I’d be pretty chapped right now if I bought a PDP pro and then this dropped 6 months later. It was a thing that I would have done but it took too long to show up and in the meantime the Rival S came out.

    • @lon242
      @lon242 7 месяцев назад

      I'm absolutely holding out for a less racey version down the line for around 12-1400. No magwell, plain 5 inch slide, standard magazines. It will happen 🤞

    • @SEAKPhotog
      @SEAKPhotog 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, the S2 OR is a terrific value for a SF gun. I've got an S2 OR + other CZ SFs and Walther Q4 and Q5 SFs among other guns. The S2 OR wins my bang for buck award (I haven't shot a Canik SF tho). The PDP SF is intriguing to me but I don't think it'd be worth upgrading from a Q4/5 SF since the Q4/5 SF grip is good for me and I've got a performance trigger in the Q5 and one waiting to be installed in the Q4. And TBH, I find the aesthetics of the Q4/5 far more appealing than the PDP. 😉🤷🏻‍♂️

      MSRP SH2 is $1299, OR is $1499. But you can find the former under $1k and the latter around $1.2k, maybe less with some scouting around sites.
      You can also find S2Os at a much lower price than its natural $2k+ price tag.
