I didn’t go to prom. I have no regrets.
I never smoked cigarettes nor drink beer in high school. No regrets, no matter what flunking high school jocks say.
I did. Went with friends. Honestly makes the experience better since its pretty boring. It's overhyped and years down the line you won't remember it.
Prom is only worthwhile for people who peaked in high school or think high school defined their future.
I did & it was so not worth the effort. Also, I went on my own. Still don't think it was worth it.
@@LuigiTheMetal64 Agreed. Good on you.
My school’s prom was cancelled this year.
Also why would royalty have a 'prom' instead of a ball or galla?
Good question. Since balls & galas are much more refined & regal.
The surest sign of compensating for something, is that they openly broadcasts their deep seated fantasies.

And it does sound better.
Isn't prom based of a ball but for teens

I guess some people never move pass high school. Or, worse yet, never get over not being asked to an overpriced high school dance.
My high scool "prom" wass a bbq during the afthernoon, it was awesome.
I am not from USA, so how much does it cost?
Raximus3000 did a quick google, average price for prom is $900. That includes tickets, dresses/tux rental. That’s per person. And this is for high schoolers.

Dude, I missed my prom back in high school and whenever I feel like I missed out, I just go on dates.
Like an adult.
Also in retrospect, they're trying to relive something, they never experienced, but the thing is you can't relive something if you've never experienced it.
I remember prom. I always went solo. I believe my high school called them winter formals though. Yet I do hope to start dating next year. Right now I'm too focused on trade school trying to get an IT certificate. Then I plan on saving up for grad school. So between getting an It job and preparing for grad school I plan on dating.
@@zacharygadzinski3147 plus if you think about it, prom in itself is more like a stepping stone for stepping into the dating world. So what is these people trying to say? "We don't know how to date, so we'll make a 20 minute episode where we'll have our OCs take our places!?"

Any kids who happen upon this, trust me when I say prom is seriously overrated. You'd have a better time hanging out at your house with better music and better company, and for the same price of tickets and outfits you can buy snacks and drinks.
My friends and I skipped prom completely and went straight to the after party.
I think those shows were aimed at teenage girls and a lot of teenage girls love that stuff, or more likely junior high girls dream about being in high school and going to prom and homecoming and being a queen and all that jazz.
As you say, in a magical, otherworldly, kingdom it doesn't make sense.
Instead of making it a High School-esque prom, they should have made it like a formal Ball like MLP: FIM did.

Ooooo! I got an idea! Why not make an anime, comic, manga or a cartoon about prom. I called it: Prom Wars. Yeah! The ultimate battle to be the king and queen of this prom tournament. It's got martial arts, transformations, power level, drama, romance, and action. Prom Wars!
Do these people not realize that statistically speaking MOST teenagers don't go to prom? Like in my highschool only around a quarter of the student body would actually go to prom each year, the rest didn't care.

Modern American artists kinda lost their touch with cartoons, comics, films, and art in general. It is not really about art anymore, it is not even about having fun anymore. It is just about your own image on social media. If modern American artists will focus more on their own art rather than Twitter comments and likes, their end products would be better and people would remember them many years later.
Not everything from my era (the 80s, 90s, early 2000s) was high art, I admit that, but so many of these shows and comics are remembered by the people many years later. There is a reason why shows like She-Ra, The Raccoons, Animaniacs, DuckTales, TMNT, PowerPuff Girls, Avatar, etc. are getting reboots because people remembered so many good things from these old shows. The catchy theme songs, the running gags, the memorable characters, catchphrases, the animations, the world, the story, etc. What will people remember from modern stuff like Netflix's She-Ra other than the whole shipping and representation angle? This seems the only thing people talk about these modern shows. The same goes for Voltron, The Owl House, and Star vs. the Forces of Evil. And with Korra, people seemed to only talk about the last few seconds where Korra and Asami are revealed as a couple. Only that! Nothing else!
I miss the days where an American show and comic were popular because of the whole package, not just one tiny element that is only used to boost the creator's image on social media.
Erich Scheidle well in the owl house people are focusing now on discussing liliths redemption and how amity is going to feel about what her mentor did and how Lilith could affect her relationship with adults either in a positive or negative way
when i become an animator, i want to be the one to revive the art of animation
But what do you say if there are good animated series that are good, what happens is they do not search well because you think that everything is shit now everything when it is not like that and you only remember the drawings from before out of nostalgia or maybe everything I say is incorrect but it is my opinion and it is normal for creators to share things on twitter it is just that they like it and are not distracted such as dana terrace or matt blaly who are good creators and is not dead yet and do not be guided by clownfish tv they only complain about money not for freedom of expression
@@jimmy__7161 we all will some day!
I don’t think that everyone hates a show because it’s bad, far from it. What everyone hates about these new shows and reboots nowadays are the overplayed messages, bad writing and gender politics that get shoved in. She-Ra is a prime example of this; they completely changed the overall look, personality and concept of what made She-Ra a fan favorite. To be completely honest, I never knew that the old She-Ra show had a fan-base to speak of, but that’s because She-Ra was never my cup of tea. However, I did know about it and the lore and after watching the whole series, I have my misgivings on the series and 75% of it involve the actual story. Admittedly, the last 25% is about the political politics but it doesn’t even make up the majority of why I don’t think this show is not good. It’s not horrible, I’ve seen worse, but it’s by no means a great story. I have some things I liked in the overall story and it involves Entrapta and Hordak’s relationship. I genuinely loved the interaction between these two.
Another point, just because someone says they hated a show doesn’t always mean that it involves nostalgia, that’s just the half of it. ThunderCats (2011) reboot for instance is a great example of a great reboot. It failed because of bad luck with marketing and poor sales with merchandise. Let’s look at another one; the PowerPuff Girls reboot. Why did it fail? Terrible writing and (in my opinion) a change in times. Our tastes as consumers (TV consumers, movie go-errs, etc.) have greatly changed, evolved. We grew up; She-Ra, PowerPuff Girls reboot and any other shows that didn’t (won’t) age well, did not. This is why everyone goes back to the originals, because of the great writing; And yes, the old shows had hit and/or misses with their episodes, all shows do, but overall, they were a great watch through.
I don’t think it’s just about making your image either. It’s worse. I’m being harsh here because we’ve got many people insulting others because of a difference in opinion. The Adora/Catra ship pisses me off. Storytelling wise it makes no sense, especially if you sat through the entire She-Ra series and saw the ending. I call that bad storytelling; others, who love this, would therefore call me an -ist or -isim or whatever phobia I have with the LGBT+ community (or just a hater, whatever). If a show is bad, it’s BAD. You can like a bad show, trust me, no one will think less of you, mainly because they have a show or two that’s bad that they watch. I have lots of bad shows I love, we have different tastes. Hell, it’s a part of the charm in most shows. What’s got me heated is thrashing others for hating on this show and calling for a lynching of said person(s). Truth is the political stances that this show decided to take is a turn-off for most of us and that is the underlining truth of the whole situation.
I originally had said that when I did a Wiki search I only saw the OG She-Ra but there are both of them on the same page, my bad. What I am a bit upset about, when I DO look up some of the characters I see the title "Masters of the Universe Character." Why omit that from the lore? If, and that's a big IF, they do make a season six, you better make damn sure you add the lore behind Greyskull and the Masters of the Universe, considering that Adora uses those famous words "For the Honor of Greyskull"! Seriously, I will not get over that.
I don't get why "sow" was offensive? "Sowing" the fields means planting the crops. Plus, it fits with Bow. They could have a brother who bakes named dough or a brother who moves things named Tow.
Strange: I don't remember any kind of romance or sexual themes in the original She-Ra.
It's almost like that show was made for 8 year old girls with a mission not to sexualize young girls and present them with a model of a strong female character, who could have adult female traits (long hair, lips and curves) without being weak and display strength, without having to behave like a male! It's crazy!
Well, you did have things like She Ran and Seahawk (?) having a thing for each other or Cassandra clearly having the hots for He-Man whenever he came to visit, but it was never a big thing. I mean, there's still a war to fight, and everyone's doing their bit, you know?
It's like how in He-Man there were a few episodes where He-Man and Teela clearly have some sort of attraction (off the top of my head, there was an episode where He-Man was carrying Teela princess-style, and when she teasingly observed he could put her down he jokingly/ sheepishly replied he'd just make sure things were absolutely safe first), but those episodes were rare partly because He-Man generally shows up, kicks ass, then withdraws. It never turned into some sort of cancerous malady that overtook the series like, say, Korra.
The original she ra was made to be educational because of all the parents that did not like cartoons at the time
Exactly. They all say that women who go against them are internally misogynistic - but what does it say about them who go out of their way to make their female leads look less feminine? I call that self-projection.
CheshireKat you know what’s funny Netflix she ra started as a story that promised to be a strong female character exploring and discovering who she really is but then that gets drop just so she can hook up with her abuser
@@carlacarrero4975 You win the internet. Someone finally said it.
"It's a movie about space wizards intended for children!"
There must be a logical fallacy for this. Saying that something is low quality, and therefore cannot be criticized, doesn't address the criticism and is ultimately self-defeating.
Actually I'm thinking that Patrick Willems might be appealing to absurdity, and the She-Ra fans are appealing to something else, but the counter-argument is the same.
George was saying the idea was it's made for kids, but not at the level modern Hollywood does it.
Kids need good stuff, and these woke cartoons aren't doing it.
Funny how he says that as a way to shoot down nitpickers towards TLJ, yet goes into great detail as to why I he likes it so much.
But apparently there is so much to love about this "kiddie space wizard" movie that it's worth a half-hour video discussing why.
Anytime someone tries to claim that something is intended for children as a way to try and excuse flaws in it, just point out that, if anything, we should be more critical then as children are more susceptible to being influenced by messaging in media.
@@allamericanslacker2378 not all the time... Lucas wanted to explore more of a child's mind more than dumbing it down for them.

This person claims not to be from the Twitter part of the fanbase, but the Reddit part that they claim isn't toxic. I'm also going to say I challenged them to tell me what they liked about the new show (they clearly never watched original) and most of their answers were generic with their favorite arch being Catra's "redemption" arch, which was rushed and poorly done.

I feel like nowadays the lgbt community is actually doing what homophobes have been accusing them of: shoving their sexuality down children's throats. LGBT relationships aren't taboo and I don't think having them shown naturally would be a problem, a lot of kids can see themselves in those characters. But it's more like the creators base the characters entire personality on being "not straight". Character relationships and shipping should not be on the forefront of kids shows, especially when the characters in the show are children themselves.
But are you ok for LGBT characters who are adults in adult animation shows and between two consenting adults?
@@Johnlindsey289 Yes. I'm not against LGBT relationships in shows. Adult animations will be watched by people who already have a grasp on relationships, both LGBT and not. Edit: Also I'm gay and I didn't go to my prom because I thought it sounded boring. So I stayed at home with my sister and had a funny movie marathon. Don't regret my choice to this day.
I am an introvert and I was dragged out of my house by my extraverted trans friend to both proms with his group of friends against my will when all I wanted to do was stay home and play videogames
I heard that Rebecca Sugar had a chance to sell higher quality merchandise but she refused because they wouldn't market them as gender neutral. She has a fear of pink boxes I guess.
A show doesn't need representation, it's not a government, it just needs to be entertaining.
It is interesting. they claim to make shows for the world market, yet most of the world does not and have not proms and can't relate to that. More or less shaping the picture of "those strange Us kids. So shallow."
Mexican can confirm, ironically we had something similar to japanese school festivals, they are called kermes
@@joserobertosolismerlin5527 I liked the Kermes, having a day off eating, being with friends and watching movies especially if it happened in Friday. Proms really don't exist in Mexico just Festivals and shit
In my school, our proms don't really have a requirement for dates. Even though there are couples, most of us just dance with everyone even in the slow dances as friends.
I went to prom but spent my time eating the food and playing Mario Kart with friends.
the dream
Damn if we even had prom when I was younger, if it was this kool I might have gone.
Noelle is literally just airing her weird slashfics. Take note this is what happens when you give a Tumblr weirdo the reins.
Noelle :The show is for kids
Father's: Heel no, the show is for silly people.
Yukimura Rekka & Nobunaga Tenma: something really fishing in here
Alberto Santiago more like the show is just for those enemies to lovers shippers that whine about the bad guy not getting fuck the heroe
I went to Prom with friends. At least 60% of my class didn't bother to have dates. It was fine. Ate mediocre food, drank a shit ton of soda, and afterwards our friend group went to someone's house and played board games until like 4 in the morning. I enjoyed it. Glad I went, but it was hardly spectacular.

@@sweetcinnamonpnchkin Now I have. It was pretty good
I thought Shitra was done why on earth would Netflix put us through more torture
No me I enjoy 😉
I’m not one of those toxic fans
Netflix is the same company who thinks adding the description "An 11-year-old girl is fascinated by the twerk dance, so she signs up to explore her femininity" is marketable and artistic-it is not.
No one is going to watch it.
Attention?
Netflix is trying to be cool and in with the kids
And 2020 keeps giving us crap

Well, the year gets worse as it goes by ,:/
making a character gay in the film isn't diversity. Its a choice. RACE IS DIVERSITY, NOT GENDER ATTRACTION. Sigh I hate it when companies push propaganda too much it just becomes boring like how Blizzard basically announced every character in overwatch gay which didn't change gameplay. It's completely pointless. I heard MANY actual real gay people didn't like the fact that Soldier 76 was gay now. Now Blizzard just over pushed it for marketing purposes saying hey look everyone's gay now!!! WE SUPPORT PRIDE. That's why I'm deleting overwatch soon. I don't want LGBT members to be used for marketing tactics. It's wrong and must be taken care of.
Thank you! Soldier 76 suddenly coming out as gay?! What the fuck! So weird and desperate.
It would've been more believable if Pharah came out as Bi or -- better still -- her dad was actually Soldier 76 and she should've been the true successor as the next leader of Overwatch 2.0.
That would've been such an exciting canonical reveal for the fans instead of another character's sexuality. Just saying.
At this point in Overwatch aren't straight people literally a minority now?
Sky Blaze13 The thing is he came out as gay two years after released and barely anyone cared. Overwatch was loosing players and ex Team Fortress 2 players were coming back from overwatch to play tf2 because of blizzards bull shut market tactics on there characters. I was one of those players that came back to TF2 because team fortress 2 had better characters and the game was balanced better than overwatch was. Too many characters had weapon stuns.
shadowspider9 not surprised considering how china probably also censors lgbt stuff
Word.
With every season of She-Ra Netflix and Noelle Stevenson put out, the more the world will hate them.
Noelle over-apologizing like this and beating us over the head with how not racist she is just screams overcompensation. 😑
I'm surprised, that she didn't throw people she worked with under the bus.
Prom is just an overpriced homecoming dance. If you ever been to an awkward, a boring, boastful, and (obviously) supervised homecoming dance before, then you ain't missing out on much with prom. I went to one mostly with friends and dance with people. It was not that special or "magical" like a lot of movies and shows made proms out to be. The food was probably the best part about it.
season 6 will be even woker, post apology
Sorry Noelle. Your apologies are meaningless. It's not about what you did. It's about who you are. You revealed yourself to be the exact type of person you rail against. Clueless bullies who engage in casual bigotry for laughs.
The only cartoon i liked with a prom setting was Kim Possible
I liked that one, Teen Titans had a good one too, that Fire Breather movie prom was kinda cool for the fight scene. But still it's kinda overused, as a kid I like the appeal, but in Mexico we have no such thing and I'm glad.
@@bryanmanuel4945 Same, l also liked the prom episode in Symbiotic Titan, mostly cause they gave more character development for the main set of characters and it had a cool fight scene.
Kim Possible was soo cool.(the animated one)
I hate modern shows. Owl House is yet another samey cutesy cartoon with female heroine who is also lesbian and who has animal sidekick.
Do you mean feminist ?
@@captainabefox What's the difference ? Lol
These people are obsessed with shipping likely for the same reason they're obsessed with prom. They didn't get to experience prom in high school, so they live vicariously through the cartoon. Similarly...they probably didn't experience any good relationships in high school, so they live vicariously through the cartoon.
When I first watched the rebooted She-Ra, I thought Catra was a lesbian. It was just a feeling I had. But throughout the show, Catra constantly refers to Adora as a friend. We see thier development as friends. Friends can become family, so I thought I was wrong about her being a lesbian. But when Catra said that she had romantic feelings for Adora, to me, it felt random. The show spent so much time reassuring the fact that they are friends, just to cram a romance between the two in the last few episodes. Catra's redemption arc felt very weak.
There’s a story by Junji Ito called Melting Classroom. This kid apologizes profusely and often. They think it’s because he’s been abused but they later find out he gets off on it. This is what this apology reminds me of
Blue-haired tumblrina: "New She-Ra isn't sexualised, like that old problematic show, so it can be more empowering for little girls. Ooooh, _squeee,_ Catdora is so cyooot! Look at them going to the prom in the middle of a planetary invasion! Are they gonna kiss? Are they gonna kiss? _Eeeeee!_ I gotta go draw pictures of their lesbian lovechild!"
Little girl: "what's She-Ra?"
I don't know what's more pathetic: the reaction of the Stephenson fangirls, or their complete blindness to the irony of their own reactions.
Warren JB yeah that’s basically most I say most catradora shippers in a nutshell
@@carlacarrero4975 I apologise for getting 'catradora' wrong.
Not to mention that the main "ship" is toxic as all hell 🙄
They give lesbian couples a bad name, one by actively not including Spinarella and Netossa (who didn't do much of anything until towards the end of the series) and Catra and Adora, a toxic couple that they try to say it's so cute and progressive ( As I recalled: Catra intentionally assaulted Adora because she wanted to be friends with Lonnie and NEVER apologized when they were kids. I don't think a couple is stable if one was trying so hard to kill the other one so many times) PrOgReSsIvE isn't it?
Isn't "sexualization" a matter of perception to a point? If someone's attracted to heavy set women, wouldn't making a character fatter be pandering to their sexual desires? If someone is attracted to flat-chested, short haired women, wouldn't altering a character design to fit this type be appealing that that person's sexual desires? Going against the common opinion does not mean that a character design isn't sexual, nor does appealing to the common opinion make it sexual.
There was a time when a woman having a big butt was considered unattractive (remember "does this dress make my butt look big?"), and where the skinnier a woman was the more attractive she was considered. Now big butts and thick thighs are considered attractive, while a little over a decade ago they would be considered unappealing. Heck, a few decades ago a strong female character would be one that isn't afraid to show off her body and be a bit lewd, because the standard at the time was for women to be prim and proper, and stay covered up. So these people are the antithesis of their own argument, because they aren't making a "non-sexualized" character, they're just making a character that appeals to their own sexual desires.
And just as a side note, the reason I used women for my examples is because beauty standards for men don't change very much.
@@vermis8344 it's cool I didn't really have an issue with it and don't worry about this kind of stuff happens to me all the time to
Rwby fandom does the samething too, a baby born from two women. Seems to me that they dont know how biology works.
I assume She Ra continues only out of spite.
Did anyone else notice that all the LGBT couples got kisses and the (like 2 in the whole damn show bc literally everyone was anything but straight) straight couples didn't? I actually wanted to see more out of Sea Hawk and Mermista & Hordak and Entrapta. Maybe it's bc I didn't really watch the OG She-Ra, but I actually liked those couples.
Does anyone else feel this way??
I definitely agree. I was really disappointed that hordak and entrapta didn't kiss
That's nothing. Queen Angella and Micah FINALLY meet again after years apart. The series makes it clear they still love each other dearly. Yet, she kisses Micah ON THE FOREHEAD. An adult, married couple, who have been apart for YEARS, who are shown to love and miss each other deeply, aren't going to share a passionate kiss when they are reunited?
Please.
@@jeangentry6656 It wasn't exactly Years for them. In the Portal Reality, Micah never got captured by the Horde.
But I do agree that it's really weird.
i find funny that the only "enjoyable" and "no-toxic" couple in the show was a straight couple xD, and i'm pretty sure it was by pure accident create..... i'm speaking about hordak and entrapta..... i mean it was rushed too, but at least make fucking sense xD...... sea and mermista i can get behain it but they just get togehter out of the blue.....
@@poijnve3912 I still find it kind of a weird ship.
It would be fine if Entrapta had been evil too....but Hordak waged War against the entire World and destroyed Selenias.
Not to mention that he is really old and I do NOT believe the Fans when they tell me that Entrapta is supposed to be 30.
they made 5 seasons of that garbage...? jeeeesus
Not really a full 5 seasons. Two seasons only had 6 and 7 episodes.
They didn't. It hasn't been 5 calendar years yet.
More like they had a set number of episodes they broke into five “seasons”.
Netflix's "5 seasons" for this "show" would actually be considered 2 seasons on regular cable network.
@@nosehairsoffury2067 I say four, a season can be whatever episodes based on the production and run time, but an average is usually 13.

I have gay College classmate who gone to prom and dance with his male crush. No one bats an eye. Maybe if they just get over with theit pathetic Highschool life, they would have experienced something good. Me personally, i barely remember anything back in highschool. College was when life really started for me. 😒
When do we get the prom episode where the character's love interest is going with someone else, but decides to go anyway and ends up having a good time because they have friends? That's how a lot of people's time at proms go.
I LOVE the fact Geeky hates this modern trope as much as I do. Back when webcomics were a big thing in the late 00's I noticed this thing where a LOT of (female) creators just had to make the "climax" of their stories a ball, dance, or prom, despite the fact they were writing a fantasy/sci-fi and not slice-of-life/romance. Speaking as a woman from this age-group (you know, because you apparently can't bring attention to these things unless you fit the demographic yourself) I despise this pattern the most out of any modern tropes. I didn't go to prom. I don't feel like I missed something "BIG". A real, actual prom would have bored the crap out of me. An imagined prom would be worse! That said, man, I can't help but think how narrow your perspective on life must be to lay so much importance on prom that you MUST make it a part of your storytelling on a commercial level.
After Noelle got caught in hot water SPOP is dead.
I had a weird dyslexia moment while reading your comment and read SPOP as SOP and thought you where talking about the fall of the sons of the patriots which is a very different thing from a very different franchise

Prom is such a weird murican tradition. As somebody from the other side of the pond it still baffles me even as an adult.
Prom is overrated.
Maybe because The Back To The Future prom is what we all hoped for, but it's literally nothing like that.
In BttF that was *just* the "Enchantment under the Sea Dance". Not their Prom
If that was just a dance, I'd imagine Hill Valley High's prom in 1955 was amazeballs.
Just sayin' 😄

Prom wasn't even a thing in the UK until recent years. When I was at high school we had leavers parties. No bringing a date, no dressing up like Disney Princesses...you just turned up wearing whatever you want and had a good time without all the pressure and expense.
Adults who missed their proms. Like kids who are called sissies grow up and create the term SIS for straight people.
