Joe, Isn't it possible (if not probable) that most of these scares that regularly pop up are nothing more than the product of our greater ability to detect chemicals/nanoparticles in minuscule quantities? Plastics have been around for 75 years and the styrofoam/PVC/PETE, etc. used in 1975 must have broken down into nanoparticles as well. Perhaps the only difference is that one knew about them then so groups like NRDC and the EWG couldn't raise funds by scaring. us about them. I suspect the same holds true for other "enemies of the state." like BPA, phthalates, parabens, and ultimately (maybe) PFAS. All these substances have been around for a long time while cancer rates have been stable or declining for 50 years. It just doesn't add up. Last week a 93-year-old dentist wrote me wondering whether he and his wife should stop putting plastic in the dishwasher because of microplastics. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he was far more likely to trip and die on the way to the dishwasher than from anything coming out of it.

Blueberries, pills and so much more do not need to come in plastics, it is just convenient that way. You can have your blueberries and reduce your plastic use too.
