    This was the way swarzentrubers sang it there are other variations. Even under the old order.

    The style sounds similar to Gregorian Chant with many notes but few words.

    Strange that it is called "der" since in Germany and Switzerland it is "das Lied" and i am not sure If that changed here within the last centuries or if thats a thing only in the amish dialect

    • @amishog8123
      @amishog8123  Год назад +2

      It should have been "das". We actually said s'Lob Lied or s'Lied. We shortened the word "das" to "s". But I am still figuring out what some of our words are in German

      @@amishog8123 hehe I am from south Germany so we actually speak very similar that but we also learn "standard German" in school so very often we write Standard German but still speak in dialect :-)

      That's awesome. One difference is probably the English words we mix in. Also, we use the S in front of feminine names, like S'Marie and S'Anna. Or s'haus. I just realized last night with your comment that the S must be short for das. We also used die for plural, I guess. 🤷 We were educated in English, my community had Standard German and spelling one day a week but no in-depth German lessons. While saying das haus makes sense to me, saying Das Marie sounds strange

      @@amishog8123 Indeed the "s" seem to be for "das" since also here in swabian dialect we kind of use it in that matter and even in standard german there are short forms like when you want to say you want to go to a festival than you could say "ich geh auf das Fest" - but it's also correct standard german to say "ich geh aufs Fest" where the "s" for "das" is just added to "auf" ^^
      All in all I would say you could be very quick in learning standard german and who knows maybe you will give germany and switzerland a visit in the future 🙂

      I've heard different versions even among the communities close to me. It's not a recorded song that anyone can listen to and copy. So it makes sense that it varies slightly from community to community

    What is the translation? I hear the ladies sing at a local store I go wondering through and the songs they sing are amazing. Just would like to know what they are about pertaining to God

    • @deadbunnys
      @deadbunnys 10 месяцев назад +1

      original lyrics are "Oh Gott Vater, wir loben dich und deine Güte preisen".
      the simplest translation is "Oh God Father, we praise you and praise your goodness". since it’s an old song and nobody actually talks like that the most accurate translation is "Oh God Father, we glorify Thee and Thy goodness praise".
      hope I could help :)
