I appreciate the inspection plate comment! I started seeing a ton of oil coming out of mine over this winter (Im in PA). What's above that plate? Anything special I need to do besides taking out the 2 bolts and replacing the O-ring? I'm somewhat new into this & tracking down oil leaks. Any chance you could provide a link the to O-ring you used for this area?
Hi there. Replacing the o ring is as simple as removing the two bolts and carefully removing the cover plate using a tiny pick or screwdriver. If your o ring is torn or damaged like mine, you need to find a replacement. I couldn’t find one to buy separately, so I called CIP1 and asked if they had any spare type 4 engine seal kits that were returned and if they would sell me just the o ring. They were happy to help me. You may have similar luck with other VW vendors, so call around.
@@curiousdude3196 Got it! I'll call CiP1 today! I definitely have a leak from there and it's just getting worse. I just wasn't sure if I could pop the plate off and not have a ton of oil come out. lol I guess my question is, can I take it out without draining the oil?
@@curiousdude3196 So, I called CiP1 - they had no idea wat I was talking about. lol I even called it the Taco Plate as it's sometimes referred to. No luck with Cip1 but I did get a new O-ring for it from a seller on ebay. It had the same part number as the German Supply ones too. Hopefully it's the right one (it's orange in color and looks to be the right size). I'm changing out my oil this week, so plan on tackling everything before I get it out for Spring time!
Firsties! Nooice! 😎 STOC

You will find it easier to drain the oil first as there will be some accumulation under that plate.
@@curiousdude3196 Appreciate the help man!!
