Thank you! Having said that, I would love to see the face and hear the voice of an excellent craftsman, if only saying "That's it! Goodbye, hope you enjoyed the video!".

I admire very much this work, there's a lot of precision and skill for sure. The techniques you use are phenomenal. The only point I don't like, is the project itself. Making a tool like this out of wood, simply can't fulfill the number 1 rule which is safety. It's not that it will fail, but it could. Specifically I think the pivoting of the saw held like that... Still, really, is amazing how precisely you work and the skill you clearly have.

    • @tcarney57
      @tcarney57 4 года назад +2

The circular saw he used to make this was intended to be used while handheld. Surely attaching it to a structure made of wood (or steel) would make it safer than when used by hand. For one thing, since the structure keeps the saw fairly rigidly inline when it cuts through wood, there could be no "kickback" as can happen when using handheld.

Bravo! You've earned my subscription. Good job!
I have some observation and suggestions.
You might not have needed to cut the sole of the circular saw as you did. Why?
    1. Remember the machine is a powered tool and there's possibility of it becoming a monster if anchorage fails or structural balance and stability is impaired.
The machine was designed to work fully resting on that sole, so if its use is going to be modified the designed parameters must be included.
The sole is no longer rectangular but C-shape and it's on one flange of the C it's now resting on. Any failure at the flange or the hinge is a disaster if it's working.
    2. The anchorage at one flange of the C leaves all the stress, weight of the machine, giration and vibration on the mutilated sole, which is only anchored by the hinge, which is in turn suspended at a distance from the sleeves. This create moments at the point of operation.
All these reduces precision at the point of operation, it will make the protractor deficient.
If I am making any sense, allow me to suggest these:
    1. For safety purpose, Along the line of structural support (base, sleeves, rods, hinge and the sole) you may introduce a line of steel bolted to your plywood. It assures you that there'd be no structural failure. Glue and screws on plywood only may not be too safe.
    2. Instead of cutting the circular saw sole, add additional layer of a little more than half the cutting board (the one that looks like a giant tadpole) on the other side of the blade, such that the side where you cut the sole would be just a layer. The thickness difference will accommodate the flange you wanted to cut.
    3. You may do the calibration when you are through to correct zero error.
Let me say again thank you for making it so simple for us to learn and improve.
