For those who wonder about the "Lilith.pk3" and the chicken picture, the story here:
In 2017, that mod that exploits bugs from an old ZDoom build (the ancestor of GZDoom) to appear glitch was released, and the author explicitly told that the mod was incompatible with GZDoom since bugs were fixed.
For a reason, the lead creator of GZDoom threw a fit over that use of his old port and the disregard for his newer work and expressed himself particularly vehemently on the forum, earning himself the title of "Salty member" from the board. The responsibles of the board being responsible, they attempted to calm him down by reminding him that was just a mod.
I'm joking, they instead promoted the mod and made it the lead winner of the cacoward, the most recognized community awards to spite that guy. So the lead creator of GZDoom went completely silent for a long time. No new build. No info, and only people getting worried that GZDoom would be abandonned and maybe even become unaccessible.
In the end, one of GZDoom's other devs told everyone that the lead thought it was time to go a vacation and had forgotten to tell them.
Yes. It's one of those stories.

A few things to add on to this;
1. ) If you're using GZDoom, use ZDoom Launcher. No more dragging and dropping or messing with the command line, and it let's you setup multiplayer for GZDoom fairly easy, along with setting up IWADS outside of the ZDoom menu.
2. ) You may still need the Doom 1 IWAD for certain maps. If you have maps that use Doom 1, but mods that use Doom 2, just load DOOM2.WAD as you would a PWAD.
3. ) GZDoom has a lot of unnecessary visual options turned on by default that might cause performance issues or look visually unappealing, like texture filtering. In more complex mapsets or visually hefty ones it'll eat up memory.

I started playing classic doom in 2021 actually because eternal got me hooked to the franchise, I absolutely love it because it's an escape it's absolutely beautiful.
This really helped my broke ass play modded doom
So, I have never played a shooter before. I decided to go with doom because of you, and because I love retro stuff. This vid really helped me get into doom.
Just finished my first playthrough of Ultimate Doom on GZdoom. Man, thank you so much. Honestly one of the best games I've ever played. Thanks Br0

I'm 23 years old now and I remember playing this game on older machines and after I first got opportunity to go online I soon found a hungarian RUclipsr (because I'm hungarian) who made reviews about these kind of mods. I liked the idea and I found GZdoom shipped with another mod at first and used it before I knew what it is. Soon I found out that I could play any other mod with it and now I know that I should google it separately. I tried out other source ports too and I tried the Ultimate Doom Builder as well as DSDA speedrunning too recently. :)

The best thing about mods is that they can extend the life of a game and make it way more cooler like back2fronts for cod 2 and case in point brutal doom

You made a critical oversight.
Getting rid of the filters to make Doom look more like Doom and less like someone rubbed their ass on all the visuals
Even with Eternal I played with the gun in the middle of the screen.
To be honest the viewmodel option in modern doom games is weird, idk it just gives me a headache, maybe because of the very changed artstyle and movement I guess

Broleg, I actually am glad of this as I was quite scared to always try to mod this game believing it used some old ports and technology, but because it looks so easily modifiable and creatively open, I'm so willing to perhaps try it and see if I can properly join such community.
Perhaps I wish and wonder if it can inspire to try to make me something! But that is another story.. And I am glad either way for what you did! Thanks friend!

today marks the one year anniversary for this game
So basically, every kind of players is satisfied with classic doom, and here are these kinds:
The casual player :
he just want to do a playthrough of doom and doom 2, then he leaves, he will choose the default settings of gzdoom. It will be nice to him, but very odd. He will switch back to COD fastly after that.
The retro doomer :
This one is a fanatic. He was one of the first to buy the game on a dos pc back in 1993. He only play on dos pc or chocolate doom. He play only with the keyboard and keep yelling at people that this is the way the game is meant to be played.
The hardcore doomer :
This one is here to suffer. He knows all the challenges existing such as pacifist or Tyson, only use auto-save and love the abusive nightmare difficulty. These guys are insane bored fps gods, and they have so many insanely hard wads to play, such as sunder or dimensions.
The modded player :
This one can't stand the original game, he finds it ugly, slow, with not exciting weapons and boring. He, however, still think doom is awesome for one reason : modding doom is very easy. He will only use massively game changing iwads, like winter's fury. He will only run the original doom with brutal doom.
Tell me if I missed any!
The modded player has a few sub groups to add:
The one that hates brutal doom no matter what
The one who only likes brutal doom and nothing else
The one who has an obsession with hideous destructor
The one that prefers mods with minor changes and touch ups rather than radical changes
Those are a few among others.
I personally hate default brutal doom in single player, I adore hideous destructor, dead marine, corruption cards, demonsteele and gmota.
If you want fast and exciting weapons, crank up the fast monsters setting and use dead marine + corruption cards. Now that's a wild ride.
Modern Doomer. Plays both vanilla and mods with high resolutions and frames.
One things binds us all is our hatred of texture filtering.

Also the type that wonders if "x" kind of mod exists, then ends up checking out mods and downloading them instead of actually playing anything, and when finally playing something, they go full ADHD mode and get bored after 2 maps/deaths even though they try to enjoy it, but since theres 50 other mods to play they switch every five minutes because that is easier than putting some effort in. x.x (Totally not me btw)

Unity port is trash, doom 2 obviously, since vast majority of mods are aimed at its iwad
