Thank you for your long term review of your Prius Prime. I’ve been watching your video for a while learning the ropes of an electric car. And now I got an IONIQ5
Niceee keep the updates coming , I have 2017 with 58k miles running great . Love the battery range I get like 1k miles before I have to fill up the tank
I always look forward to seeing your videos! I changed my transmission fluid recently, easy, but the plastic underneath covers were a pain; especially the clips. Congratulations brother! BTW, the car is still a baby.
@@DIYBIGMANwhat psi are you running in your tires... Hybrids run higher tire pressure yet shops still air then up to 32 psi.. run 36-40 psi.. your mpg will increase
I have a 2022 prime too and also have a long commute. My daily drive is 140 miles with an average 62 mpg. I got it 15 months ago and currently has 36,400 miles. I change the oil myself too, I do it every 6,000 miles. I guesstimate 1,000 on electric, I average 30 miles per change. I do drive very conservative, not extreme (holding. traffic), but I drive on the right lane I am not on a hurry most of the time, I get up early. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for sharing let me know how it holds up for you long term! The comma helps me a lot with the long drives. Your mpg is amazing. I am thinking about switch my tires to eco types. Lol
@spacemaster5206 You get 0w16 oil at Walmart at 19$? I buy a few every time it’s on sale but I have never seen it at that price. The cheapest I’ve seen is 22$.
@@jduran111 actually I don't recomend to use such liquid motor oil on engines 120k+ 5W30 is a must (if you don't want to damage your engine) Full Synthetic High Mileage motor oil $18,5 + tax at Walmart
@spacemaster5206 You put 5w30 on a Prius? Or you have another vehicle? I have a 2005 that uses 5w30 and a 2016 Highlander. Those I buy it at Costco, they sell a two 5 quarts jogs for $38.
Love your videos. As a new Prius owner, I find it informative and helpful, especially when you have these long-term reviews. Question: Do you always charge to 100%? If so, I wonder if it has adversely affected your traction battery.
I always charge my battery to max capacity, but I think Toyota limits it to 80%. I don’t think Toyota allows the vehicle to actually charge the full potential in the battery.
@@DIYBIGMAN can’t wait for the new video! And that’s what I’ve been hearing. I’ve yet to find out in writing that that is the case. Plus, some people, like The Car Care Nut, say not to fully charge. So I'm stuck in between because I want to be able to fully charge. In the new generation Prius Primes, the owner's manual states that when on a full charge, to drive it asap. So that’s what concerns me. How much degradation would you say your prime has with the battery?
Glad you enjoyed the video! I got it off Walmart online. I think it’s the sports rack or something like that. It’s OK it was pretty cheap. It’s just a little bit flimsy, but not too bad. Overall I’d say it’s worth the price at least then the price has gone up quite a bit Costco had one on sale, a little bit ago as well it looked pretty sturdy
I use a comma 3 on my 2022 Prius prime. Sunnypilot. I have 202,000 miles. About to do first brake job. Only problem I've had so far is hybrid coolant pump just failed. Toyota selling $5 pump for $700. What a rip off. On my 3rd set of tires. Got 90k off each of first 2. Actually had more left on each. But lost 1 tire to sidewall damage at 90kish each time so replced all 4. No battery range drop yet. Love the car.
the Prius is a pretty awesome vehicle, crazy reliability. I hope I don’t have any coolant issues either. I did replace my coolant a while ago around 140 K.
Thanks for a detailed review, looking to get a 2018-19 prius prime. hard to find owner reviews thanks! Also have questions, how much original capacity has the battery lost? I heard these are expensive to replace.. what should I look for to check battery health?
It’s a solid car. No regrets so far. If you want the 5 seater go for the 2020. Battery is good. Hybrid battery is solid still and I did a lot of level 2 charging I don’t think I lost much ev range. Maybe 2-4 miles at most.
Remember also front battery is weak will cause the engine to turn on more frequently because of the auto charge detects it low voltage. Mines 3 years old I notice that on mine
Do you know why sound does not came from my prius prime 2017 even when its AM or FM or connected to the BT the song plays on the phone but no audio comes from the car also i try to unmute the prius by holding the mode button that doesn't work either does not make it mute or unmute
Congratulations! Still looks good! Thought u were handing down to kids. Why not a reg hybrid prius? I know u are concerned in traction, so RAV4 would be better. Or Highlander but u will suffer mpg's for sure. I would wrap black in black vinyl. 👍🖖🇺🇸
Wish I had more money first before I buy another car. Lol. Need more time to save up money. I’m gonna try to save up at least 25% of the purchase price or more before I buy a new car. They are ridiculously expensive still. 😆 And demand for Toyota vehicles are still high. Plus, I might give the kids the Subaru Forester, or my older RAV4. So they can play bumper cars until they learn how to drive better. Lol. The only thing I don’t like about the Prius prime is the visibility especially the rear window for younger kids to drive.
Give it a couple of years. Toyota is trying to have around 120+ mpg for all their plug in hybrids just on electric side by 2025 or 2026. Hopefully they'll realize their mistake on the Prius by then. There are a lot of complaints from what I've seen about them making the already small interiors even smaller. A 6ft person can't even sit in the back seat on the new ones and can't get in the front without hitting their head. Can't see them being a great buy. And their 44 mile range prime is not getting 40 miles. They're going to have to have a redesign soon in my opinion. I just got my 2018 prime at the beginning of May. Not impressed with the interior at all but I am impressed with the combined mpg. Anywhere from 80 to 133 so far (I plug it in twice a day and occasionally do Doordash, 5 days a week at regular job 22 miles from home to give you an idea). I was a little disappointed by the fact I drive 5 hours from home to get a Prius prime advanced but the car lot had it mislabeled and I ended up with a Prius plus. Mainly wanted bsm and a couple of luxuries so I didn't complain. Sorry so many tangents lol. Thanks for the updates on yours.
The new Prius prime I don’t think is worth trading in my advanced. I like the extras the limited or advanced has. Like the heated steering wheels and BSM. Rear cross traffic is nice too. But yeah. The car is small especially in the back. Not for any family car at all. Thanks for sharing and I hope Toyota listens to what their buyers want. I see the Prius dying at this rate if they don’t keep up with improvements with the competition. It’s Like the Nissan leaf, good at first and soon It’s a goner.
use Lucas oil fuel treatments for 4 fill-ups should help and yes if you do not use low resistance tires it will eat up your mpg i bought Michelin defenders and lost 5 to 10 mpg getting 44 to 52 before I got 48 to 60 mpg
@@DIYBIGMANI personally prefer Michelin tires on my Gen 4. It still gets 50mpg all day long. I’ll take less noise and more comfortable ride…. ALSO Lucas fuel treatment doesn’t contain the active high temp detergent PEA so you would be flushing your money down the toilet. Redline fuel system cleaner has high PEA, GUMOUT REGANE, chevron techron…. Those actually clean.
