  • In this episode I showcase my version of René Schmitzs "Fastest Envelope in the West". I only tweaked some component values, added a LED and the project was finished in a very short time.

    Well done another one !
    This one is also on my TODo list, for its simplicity but efficient side.
    Feel you so much for reversing the pots! BTW pots legs can be crossed relatively in an easy way with some finger precision, did that a certain number of times...

    • @MeeBilt
      @MeeBilt  2 года назад +1

      Hey HarmO! 😊
      Thanks a lot. I reworked one of the first PCBs by cutting traces and adding some wires, but crossing the pot legs is another solution that works fine too. I decided to make another board spin since this is a module that I might want to have a number of in my modular.

    I cloned Befaco VCADSR, that's the very best ADSR out there, made some "minor" improvements and it's very slightly faster than original.
    It's based on the Serge DUSG / Make Noise Maths. it's very difficult circuit and applause to Befaco.
    After hours of studying this circuit, i came up with a "new" design, it's a basic ADSR, it takes like 320 nano seconds to change stages and it's unlike any envelop on the globe, but it works.
    i used CD4000 series and it outputs 10 volts, important for your VCA.

    • @MeeBilt
      @MeeBilt  Год назад +1

      Awesome, that sounds like a really complex module. At some point I will probably make my own design with more features, but for now René Schmitzs FEITW works fine for me.

    • @AnalogDude_
      @AnalogDude_ Год назад +1

      @@MeeBilt the Befaco VCADSR is complex as is the Serge DUSG / Make Noise Maths, mine ADSR is basic, but does require a expensive chip, at least a bit more expensive than a LM13700N. i could use a cheaper chip, but it's DIP14 and doesn't fit i a 4HP design, so i had to pay more for a DIP8 version. i still use through hole parts.
      you have to be sure it outputs 10Volts or use a adapted VCA. sure it makes sound, but is it 10Vpp.

    Hi, do JLCPCB offer an option for the frosted screen over the LED on the front panel?

    • @MeeBilt

      It's ordinary FR4 material actually, so it's nothing that you need to order separately.

    Where do you order single PCBs and how much do they cost?

    • @MeeBilt
      @MeeBilt  2 года назад

      I order sets of 5 PCBs from JLCPCB, they cost around 2€ for 5 pcs + shipping, so it's not a lot of money. There are similar services from other manufacturers, for example PCBWay

      Glad I could help! Hope you get it to work. The pots for A,D & R are really sensitive so it's a good idea to use LOG pots instead of LIN. I will do that when I build my next set.

    • @boydw1
      @boydw1 Год назад +1

      @@MeeBilt Apparently you can approximate a LOG response with a linear pot by adding a loading resistor (so long as the drive stage is comfortable with the added load). Might make for an easy adaption to your built module?

    Any idea where to get those 1M pods RD901F-40-15K-B1M in Europe? Not from thonk! Mouser only seems to carry the 10k and 100k.

    • @MeeBilt

      I buy them from a store in Sweden:
      www.electrokit.com/en/product/pot-1mohm-lin-rv9312no/
      But I strongly suggest that you go for a LOG pot (A1M) instead, since it will make the adjustments so much easier - I have actually replaced the pots on all the modules that I have built...
      However, these are even harder to find in the EU, so I buy them from Aliexpress.
