Hadn't watched SGA that much but watching closely with team Canada basketball, I was surprised at how good his defense was. Makes me think he is just an overlooked player, OKC defense was good 1st half last season.

We have been known to play harder than half the league's teams for years all the way back to when we had the likes of Ibaka. We have been a top defensive team last 2-3yrs for a tanking team. I'm sure we'll do even better when we start going into games with the aim of winning. Shai, Dort, Wiggins, JRE, Kenrich, Bazely all play great defense and Poku and Baze are top 30 NBA blockers and Shai is 12th in blocks and 3rd im steals, add Chet to that elite defense next year, sheesh!

  • @kevind4606

For Shai to win and the Thunder not to make the playoffs, he would have to be a tier above everyone else statistically. That is not the case right now.
Steph is averaging 32.8 points shooting %45 from three on 11 attempts. (that is insane)
Giannis is averaging 30/12/5.5/1/1 while leading his team to an 11-3 record.
Tatum 31/7/4 while leading his team to a 12-3 record.
Luka 34/9/8 while leading a team that's roster other than Luka is really not much better than the Thunder to 8-6
Embiid 32/10/4 and the Sixers are 7-7.
That being said Shai is a beast and I am glad you are talking about him. He is actually tied with Luka in +/- at +2.8. And if his team does somehow make the playoffs he definitely should be in the race.

  • @butterschunkmcdonalds5333

I would say cause of OKC record he can’t be in consideration for MVP but I just seen Curry is like in the top 3 for MVP voting right now and his team has a worse record than the Thunder so by that logic honestly SGA should be in the MVP conversation right now , If the Thunder was a top seed team he would be the MVP that’s how well he’s playing right now.

Man the fact ppl doubt and debate SGA as an MVP candidate is ridiculous. He is my opinion easy mvp leader. Yes they aren't winning as often as other teams with players who are in the running but when u look at as a person who is the most valuable player. He is hands down it. There is no more valuable player in the league. He wins u games based on his performance but he will also keep u in the game based on his performance. Gannis, Luke, curry, etc will get slightly better stats but this dude is carrying and making the team he plays for better. Which for makes him the mvp. He has impact, he has presence. Dude is mvp

Luka is averaging 34/8/8 with a positive record while being 1st in PER, BPM, VORP, WS, WS/48 and OWS. Mavs also conveniently lost to the rockets last game who happen to be one of the worst teams in the league and Luka was out that game. Shai is great and been underrated but Luka has been the definition of impact this season so far

You can write off this season for Kawhi...he may not even be the 2nd best player on that team when all is said and done this season...
When u have an ACL injury and I've had it, the rehab leads to some weight gain....but you always should come back leaner and stronger from an ACL injury esp as an athlete ...not bulkier...same story with AD...he needs to be leaner too..
.bulkier with lesser mobility due to the post injury mechanics...means Kawhi will be a shell of himself defensively and getting back his jump shot will take this entire season atleast...

Let's stop with the Trae Young disrespect. Dude led his team to the ECF his first postseason appearance. Trae Young averages at MINIMUM 25-26 ppg and 8+ assists every season. This is SGA's first season averaging over 23 ppg. He's not a better scorer or passer than Trae. And we know Trae is a bonafide playoff performer, we don't know if SGA's play would increase or decrease with playoff pressure. He's balling out and if SGA can keep it up he might even make All-Nba. But I'm not ready to crown him and say I'll take him over Trae and Ja. That's some crazy recency bias
