No, I grew up in the US and that is not true. Mongoloid is a anthropological term used to describe a race similar to Caucasoid. It's not really about skin color as Indians are Caucasoid not Mongoloid. Mongoloid does not mean East Asian as some South Asians are Mongoloid. The term, Asian does not describe a race, but describes people from a geography. Hence, Mongoloid is distinguished from Asian because of the differences in their meaning. In the UK, Asian refers to Indians and Pakistanis while Chinese are termed Orientals. In the US, Asians refers to East Asians while Pakistanis and Indians are termed South Asians. Perhaps, what he means is Mongol, which is an ethnicity and has a different meaning than that of Mongoloid. However, I do agree that he is using the term wrong though the term is not derogatory. Perhaps what you are thinking is when people call some with Down Syndrome Mongoloid, but that is just ignorant. I proudly describe myself as a Mongoloid as that is my race.
